GO YANKEES

lol. Mets came in 1 game under .500. This isnt the Marlins.
I calls em like I sees em. Mets aren't as good as the Yankees and it follows the Yankees should be the crap out of them every time they play them.
Sounds like the worst kind of yankee fan. Team should have 100 wins every year in your mind, I assume.

I think it's hilarious. Much sting extra hard for a team to come into your house and walk away with a split with your #3 and #5 starters going.... you know... for such an inferior team and all....
1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
The Mets 2018 5th rounder has 77 strikeouts in 47.2 minor league innings.
That's honestly something I've NEVER wondered about because I don't care if other fans love us or hate us. In fact I expect other fans to hate us because we root for such a successful franchise. It doesn't bother me one bit if they do.

B-b-but other baseball fans hate your team and your fanbase. Your self-worth is now ruined! How could you not care what a bunch of strangers think of you?!
Yeah they've been at 12 pitchers all year. They only went to 13 and recalled Peterson when Cano just went back on the IL for not being ready yet. Im guessing two relievers go down and one position player. Maybe Lagares or Gomez. Gotta admit Gomez's hot week is going to make that a little trickier.
Yea and met fans are just dandy. Your fan base is a complete joke. I cant tell you the amount of met fans that worry more what the Yankees do then there own team. How’s taking back New York doing?///

Look, it is what it is. Imagine if the internet had been around in the '50s when the Giants, Dodgers and Yanks were all in NYC and frequently met in the World Series. We'd have constant meltdowns.
Mickey Mouse will make the worst decision. That’s all that is a guarantee.
Prob will be Dom Smith again. Followed by JD Davis. Bc that’s how we roll on the south side
Great opportunity at home to pounce on a STL team that's really struggling this weekend. Anything less than 3 out of 4 would be a bust IMO.

Funny you mentioned JD Davis. He was referred to as a bum, yet Gio Urshela, who had a similar career path to Davis is a rising star. Both are similar age and progression through the minors/majors.
Just curious how Yanks fans would react if we called Urshela some random hump? I am sure that comment would have gone over well.
There were specific conversations where NYY posters were wondering if, given the seeming skills improvement, a long-term run-rate of like .270 / .340 / .440 might be realistic. and the vast majority of posters seemed to think it was probably too aggressive.
so much gushing.
Based on this rationale, the worst teams would NEVER win.
It is like game threads are just a cesspool of complete idiocy.
I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't care at all because that's pretty much what he is - a guy who couldn't hit his weight in his time with Cleveland who is hitting way over his head right now.
Vandy won the next two games. How does that happen??? How does a team lose 18-3 and win the next two games? Inconceivable!!
Of course they are an inferior team. It's not even really debatable, But that doesn't mean fans have an inferiority complex.
Not much worse than a fan who takes on the persona of their team and thinks because their team wins, they're a winner.
Living in Boston-metro I see this on a daily basis.
Patriots fans of all genders, races, ages, etc. try and lecture me on football because you know, they're the greatest dynasty in sports modern history, so their fans are the best and football experts (and not just from 2001 on - ever).
Or Red Sox fans telling me how a team should be rebuilt because they got the Dodgers to bail them out of an extensive period in "hell"
anyway, no one could possibly argue the Mets have been more successful than the Yankees, historically or even lately - even with the Mets the last of the two to make it to the WS, but what does that have to do with the fans?
and I have trouble contributing negatively to a thread like this, I grew up a Mets fan from my early childhood in a Yankees fan family (for a variety of reasons). My father and brother are about as die hard a Yankees fan as there could possibly be.
I never even once when they weren't playing each other considered the Yankees a rival, and don't have a shred of Yankees hate. I'm indifferent to them. When Cone, Straw, Gooden, etc. became Yankees I even liked seeing their success.
and my hatred of Boston sports is so strong, when the Yankees and Red Sox play I even root for the Yankees.
but I never grew up in NY, so maybe getting second billing since the late 80's Mets heyday ended, some fans do feel that way, but I definitely wouldn't paint with a broad brush.
And history is fleeting. My kids don't think of the Yankees as winners. My youngest has never seen a Yankees world series. My older kids have seen 4 Red Sox World Series and 1 Yankees championship. They view the Yankees how they view the Canadiens - once upon a time they dominated, but not now. And with more time and no titles that sentiment will grow IMO.

I'm with Greg. Wouldn't bother me in the least. 2 months ago, 'random hump' would have been a compliment on Urshela. And there's a good chance he'll be random hump again before too long.
I can see why it could get under people's skin. I don't know why people let it, though.
The mid to late 70's was when Montreal was dominant (as were the Yankees), but fast-forward 20 years and that was also when the Yankees were dominant.
It isn't like we are looking at the hey day of the Chicago Bears under Halas here.

jibe.....the Yankees are 41-25 (despite missing their two best hitters and staff ace for almost the entire season) and the Mets are 33-34. News flash: the Mets are an objectively inferior team.

Great post Pj.

The 2014 and 2015 CWS finals were crazy mirror images of each other. In 2014, UVA was the dominant team. That was the best team Brian O'Connor ever had, and it's really not even close. We were huge favorites over Vanderbilt but then Nathan Kirby forgot how to throw a strike in game 1 and our ace closer, Nick Howard, blew a lead in game 3 so we lost. The next year, Vandy was the dominant team and the huge favorite while UVA lost a bunch of guys and barely even snuck into the postseason, but that series we won.

What's wrong with this comment FMIC? It's a fact which is proven by the fact that the Marlins and Orioles are winless this season.

This might be the most ironic post I have seen in a while. The writer starts by trying to dismiss the inferiority complex idea- and then proceeds to demonstrate an inferiority complex.
Here's a hint- most fans don't care about whether you have an inferiority complex or not- just don't go there. Follow your team objectively and don't get caught up in the chest-beating or tearing down other teams to try and justify your fandom. Going on and on about one side or the other is tiresome and boring to read.
If anything your reaction to it demonstrates an inferiority complex.
Or at least insecurity.
1. Cashman did an amazing job having guys read to fill in for injured players. He knows how o find guys who thrive in Yankee Stadium and in that lineup. I know this is obvious but it might still be underappreciated.
2. I know Yankee fans might not want to hear this but the team needs an ace. You acquired two middle of the rotation starters in Happ and Paxson. Those prospects and cap space would have bee better spent imo on a single dominant pitcher.
Think about going into playoffs with Degrom or Sherzer pitching first, followed by Severino. Now Severino is forced to be the ace, a role he might not yet be ready to assume.
If I'm the Yanks, I take a chance on Bumgarner. You just have to do load management because his shoulder can't take 200 innings
In 04, 05, 06 it looked like there might be a renewal with Reyes + Wright + Beltran but obviously that argument turned farcical really quickly.
The Madoff mess IMO was the death blow. The Mets barely operate as a mid-market team now, let alone a competitor of the Yankees (or Dodgers, or Red Sox, or Cubs). They haven't competed for the same players in a decade, they don't trade with each other, they enter the season with totally different expectations.
Even in 2015 when the Mets almost won the WS and Thor made the comments about NY being a "mets town" it didn't matter. Sure there was more optimism among Met fans about our own team + situation, but IMO any elements of a rivalry were so far beneath what they were in the early 2000's when there was a semi-honest competitiveness in terms of resources or effort level to win (or maybe there wasn't but met fans hadn't full caught on to the Wilpons games yet). Perhaps this is a misread, but I think by and large most Met fans are far more emotionally "triggered" by the mess of our own org vs. comparing to any other and now it's just a fringe that get worked about about the Yankees (vs. the inverse previously). the 2 franchises are just operating in 2 completely different orbits that have little impact on one another. If the Mets start competing like a big market team again one day maybe it will come back but with the wilpons that's just never going to happen.
Renting a declining past-prime Bumgarner because of old playoff performances when his arm wasn't shot or #3 starter like Stroman doesn't really seem worth it.
As currently constituted, Yankees would be a pretty significant underdog to HOU in a 7-game series IMO. They have so much position player depth that it makes sense to consolidate that into a front line starter.
Stroman has better numbers than Smith despite pitching in the AL and has a helluva lot more of a track record, plus they're almost the same age.

Smith is striking out over 11 per 9 (pretty insane for a starter) compared to Stroman's less than 7 per 9. Smith is walking 2.73 per 9 compared to 3.09 for Stroman. XFIP half a run better for Smith too.
Longer team control and substantially higher upside for Smith IMO.
