Early, Sam Beal looked like "DA Man" at corner opposite Jackrabbit. Sam had to leave to take care of personal business, 1st round pick Baker has taken full advantage.
That leaves the slot - where vet Haley is making plays, but can he hold off Beal and young studs Love and Ballentine ?
It's a musical chairs kind of thing. My feeling is that Haley's odd-man-out. I think he'll end-up fighting for one of the safety positions (and probably win). Bethea is a wliey old vet, but I think Haley's got the skills to send him to the bench.
Competition is wonderful (and necessary), but it often means that you're forced to release players who end-up shining for other teams.
I tend to agree with you Jay, but the best FS of the current generation, Earl Thomas, is 5'10" and 202#.
And Haley, from his 2018 highlights anyway, has chops.
Beal will be the dime this year and spell the corners while Haley holds down the slot. Love will be a jack of all trades.
That leaves Haley and maybe Love. Haley's got a lock on that job, IMO.

You have overlooked Ballentine. Chris Bisignano says "they really like him inside the building." He's probably the best pure athlete of all of them. But he's making a huge leap from Washburn.
Haley in the slot.
Nobody is gonna send Bethea to the bench but the little I have seen from Balentine he can play deep Saftey in Dime sets but not an everydown roll.
Haley is a slot only guy.
I think the slot battle comes down to Love and Haley with the edge to Haley. Ballentine and Love likely will back up at CB and FS.
All 3 should make the 53. Two draft picks and a UDFA with a year of experience.
Wow. About the only further reach I thought you might propose is putting Engram at safety...

I always wanted to see Brandon Jacobs play DE, myself.
Mind your Ps and Qs though, or Manny might nominate you for the next head coach.
Is an unforgiving, unsympathetic parent; Bethea is going into this 14th pro season, how long can he keep up with all those young bucks ? Only reason I mention Haley is because he's decent cover man and a good tackler.
Honestly, I don't think Haley is "all that" at the slot. I'm thinking the Giants (by design) have sold out into infusing a heck of a lot of young talent (via the draft) into the entire secondary.
Just don't see Haley fighting them all off.
Beal and Baker will fight for the corner; The "loser" (or one of the other young studs) will go to the slot. You always want your "best 11" on the field.
Meanwhile, he is faster, directionally quicker, and probably tougher than his competition. And that being short is part of his directional quickness. I am sure he can change direction quicker than Beal, for example.
No reason for him, at his price tag, to lose slot to anyone currently on the roster.
Just like I respect Eli, (2X Super Bowl MVP)but this year it is - "dog-eat-dog"

Lot's of guys trying to take his job; the one who's "laying in the weeds" is Julian Love (2nd CB taken in the draft) ...

(Aforementioned Beal, even Ballentine)
LOL, at least Manny tries...
So there, that another euphemism !
About Bethea, I'm glad here's; sort of like when Sam Madison came to the Giants. He was the best thing that ever happened to Corey Webster. Webster eventually won the job, and Madison (who was at the end of his career), could still play at a very high level for two quarters. a perfect back-up.
Jesus man. In 2007, Madison started every game but the season finale. Webster was almost exclusively used on ST.
It isn't like Webster was coming on as a late-game replacement for an old man who tired out by the second half.
Is that Madison was an amazing role model and encourager for Wester. When Webster finally won the job, Madison was very gracious and remained a valuable asset to the team.
Nobody's immortal (and can maintain the energy level of youth). Vince Lombardi once said - "fatigue makes cowards of us all".
