ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski mentioned the Lakers, Knicks and Mavericks as the three teams most likely to pursue Kemba Walker in free agency.
The Hornets are still the favorite to keep Walker, as the point guard said back in early June that re-signing with the team is his "first priority." The Hornets also have a huge advantage over other teams, as they have the ability to offer him a five-year, $221 million deal -- rival teams can only offer four-year deals worth up to $140 million. If the Hornets end up losing their franchise player, they will have no choice but to rebuild from the ground up.

They will expect the max player, deandre and the vets to hold down the fort until durant returns and then make a run
I think this is maybe a 45 win team but on a totally irrational level, I'd love it. I love Boogie and Kemba. They are two of my favorites in the league. That team would be fun to watch in February and get exposed in May.

draft Barrett and keep the assets for further use to grow.

Like I said its a 45 win team right now. Unlike other plans in the past it has serious space to grow with Barrett, the other young guys and future #1's. Or we'd still have the assets to deal for another star as we go forward.
If you can’t get Kawhi also then you play the young guns and over pay for some vets on 1 year deals to fill the cap space. Deandre, Danny green, Beverly. Make a run at an 8 seed and if not you have another lottery pick and hopefully for for AD next offseason.
I don’t think he makes sense for the Knicks unless they are getting 2 other stars with him. Hope they don’t go this route.
Also do not give a shit that he is from the Bronx or played well in the Big East tournament a decade ago.
This is good news.
Am I the only Knicks fan still hoping for Anthony Davis? I don't see how our best trade offer cripples us.
The Mavs picks are great but since they're not our picks, I'm fine moving them.
I don't lose sleep over the thought of losing Robinson or Knox, even though I do think Robinson has much more potential.
It basically comes down to who would you rather have, Davis or Barrett? For me, give me the guy still in his made 20's with a bunch of all-NBA selections to his credit.

the reason i go back and forth is because if durant is your 2nd guy and you are giving up all of your youth you have to win next year...
You cant just have a free year because.you habe to make davis happy, so who do you put around him and win next year until durant comes back
I think that's crazy. Just because they let you pay that much more than everyone else can doesn't mean you have to or should. Nice player. But he shouldn't be the highest paid player in the league.
2. Pass on Durant, but get 1 of the "good" max contracts like Irving or Walker
3. Roll over the other max slot to 2020
If I'm the Knicks GM, the ONLY way that you make that trade is if you have solid information that you can get Kawhi to sign. Given that Kawhi isn't even going to give any hints until the finals are over, that's pretty slim odds.
If you have Davis and a bunch of rookies, how is that situation any different from the one he wants out of in NO? Why would he re-up under that situation? Answer- he wouldn't. The Knicks need to pair him with a "now" star- not one who MIGHT be a star in 3-4 years.
At least in LA he would be teaming up with LeBron and filler.
2. Sign Durant and let him rehab the entire season.
3. Go after Kawhi or Irving. If you get neither, leave the max slot open and go with the young guns, possibly adding another lottery pick and sign Davis outright in 2020.
“Where he’s going to land? I have no idea,” Paul says. “And it don’t matter. We’re going into free agency. Why does it matter to me where he goes? Earth: We’re going into free agency. He has a year, he has to play. But after that, I can’t say it no bigger: WE ARE GOING INTO FREE AGENCY. 2020: ANTHONY DAVIS WILL BE IN FREE AGENCY.”

I’m in this camp too. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire elite talent. And honestly I’m not really worried about giving up the picks or players the Knicks currently have.
The Knicks do that deal..fire everyone on the spot.
I don't watch Charlotte as often as other teams, but Kemba struck me as a high-usage, good but inefficient scorer wan undersized which left him to be exploited on the defensive end. In other words, a good playerl But if a team is paying him supermax money, and the same amount teams are paying guys like Curry, Davis, LeBron, Kawhi, etc., they are putting themselves behind the 8-ball in terms of building a championship team.

Agree with this. Hold fast, draft Barrett and let him develop into Kemba or better over the next few years.
The Knicks have sucked for 20 years, but have finally started to plan well with cap space and picks. Let’s not rush to blow the whole wad all at once of the right players aren’t available this offseason.
Sign Durant to the max now.
Draft RJB
Take on bad contracts that expire after next season in exchange for commensurate draft assets.
Develop players.
Sign AD after next season.
The Lakers were AD's preference in February. If he uses his free agency to go to his first preference, as Paul is warning, there won't be a practical difference between being his second preference or his 32nd.

up the Lakers, and to a lesser extent (but still praise) for the Knicks. Clearly wants him to land in one of those 2 spots.

If the Lakers don't land him in a trade though then they may use their cap space elsewhere. Lebron will be 35 in December. What if he declines or has another injury-riddled season? A lot can happen in a year. Hopefully AD goes someplace besides the Lakers. Then I think we'll have a shot.

If you take Paul's comments at face value, this is incorrect. He warns the Celtics but his comments regarding the Knicks are nothing of the sort.
I'd should say not a dealbreaker. But he seems like a culture killer.

Get ready for another year of it, because Paul says Davis won’t be signing an extension anywhere this summer.

One more HUGE reason NOT to trade for AD!!!
You'd have to stay away if those are his comments.
Draft Barrett and sit tight.
The only question is whether or not you pursue KD. I would probably pass on that now as well.

The Pelican's can't bee too happy about those comments. Certainly kills their leverage and likely minimizes their return for AD. The NBA is a joke.
