Decent summary / consolidation of a lot of what we have been reading from various sources. Really surprised to see that Love's performance has been somewhat underwhelming (his lack of speed has hurt him). NJ.com - ( New Window )
in his rookie year, that's a "win" in my book. I think the thesis of winners and losers is misplaced. Also true w/r/t the injured guys - what were they supposed to do?
were "losers" because Baker and Haley won and held onto first-team jobs but he also made a comment about Love's lack of speed which I hadn't heard before.
Same thing with Sam Beal. Deandre Baker moving ahead of him on the depth charter does not mean Beal has been a "loser."
Exactly right, a talented player missed time for personal reasons and another talented player took his place and has earned the right to keep it.
Some will use this development as a knock on Beal but the truth is that Baker is just an excellent football player who deserves to keep the starting role opposite Jenkins.
Beal will see plenty of time on defense but he has a lot to work on being that he missed all of last season.
..about Love's move to S is completely inaccurate. They said right after he was drafted that they thought he could play both positions so of course they're going to give him more reps at the unfamiliar position (and one with less depth at the moment). They didn't decide after they got him on the field.
Maybe so. But in fairness, Lombardo is a dick. He couched Lauletta being a loser because of Tanney and JOnes splitting the most backup snaps without every mentioning that Lauletta was sidelined by inquiry until the last set of practices. It's like him calling Remmers a loser without the context.
Terrible article that is based mainly on opinion vs fact. Â
Guys are losers because they’re kept out of practice during known recoveries ... seriously ??? and it’s a bit early to pick Perkins over Gallman.... I hope for his sake Lombardo has other life skills.

should be sidelined by injury. But maybe his health was questioned?

It always puzzles me when sportswriters or broadcasters don't seem to know this stuff. It happens surprisingly often. We've all had those moments when we read or hear something that makes us say "Come on, do your homework. You're a pro, I'm just a fan, and I know better than that."
If he has indeed got solid information that the Giants decided Love is too slow to play cornerback then he has a very nice little scoop. Bet he doesn't, though.

Disagree. If you go from the starting lineup early in camp to 2nd team then you're a "loser" of camp. And that's true even if his demotion had nothing to do with poor play and was only b/c someone else was great.

Tanney went from 2nd strong to third string and Lombardo rated him a winner.
However, early in rookie minicamp it was evident that Love’s speed was inadequate to keep pace with receivers on the outside and he quickly was moved to safety.
Not that I've heard that from other beat writers, but it is quite specific. I'm not inclined to write off every impression he has just because he may have an agenda about the QB position. Even there, maybe that's what he sees, perceptually. Maybe his perception is fueled by an agenda, maybe not. But in Love's case it would be a long shot that he has one there, wouldn't it?

This isn't camp. This is offseason workouts. Camp starts after summer.
But re: the article, some of you are way too sensitive Â
In OTAs when there's only the media's 50-100+ yd removed tallies of the plays, and attendance & depth chart position, any W & L list is going to be based on that. And guys being out or injured is a loss, especially if unexpected. Plus these articles are annual practice, aside from quotas & click bait which is a big part of their job
You don't have to like it, but if someone drops on the depth chart, for now he 'lost.' That is literal and accurate like it or not. And I bet players take this depth chart drop very seriously. I don't get the ire much less calling the author a hack or whatever
Now if you're saying specific facts in his writing are incorrect (as GD_81 did above) that's different
for reading any Lombardo piece. Him and Leonard are in a foot race for the title of worst beat writer. Just when one writes their latest hit piece, the other is like, "Hold my beer".
This reeks of the writer trying to balance out his article.
I agree except for Lauletta. He's toast.

How can he make a "losers" list and not include himself?

Spot on.
There's a bus leaving for Canton in ten minutes.
Be under it.
