explaining his decision to try to play, his determination to get back to 100%, and his support of his teammates even though he pretty much the one down and out.
I'm almost back on board with signing him again, give me another few days.
Sign Durant and no one else.
No AD trade.
Draft RJ.
Spend this season not "tanking" but by trying to develop Mitch, Knox, RJ, DSJ, Frank, Trier and Dotson.
Next summer get back in the lottery with 2 chances.
Sign AD.
@KDTrey5 wheeled out to face the NY media, will bring the Donnie Walsh/@KingJames meeting full circle
I find it funny that BBI destroyed Woj in 2010 for reporting on the optics of Walsh in a wheelchair, people wrote to Yahoo to have him fired. His stardom has since exploded.
Francesar said that Durant played Game 5 because Â
Hope he makes it back close to full speed, Knicks or otherwise
I also think he might be able given he's not a quick twitch / high jumper type, his J is closer to a set shot than a high peaking jump. I kind of think of Melo's game - quick spin moves, for his size, great hand eye too - but couldn't jump much and wasn't an uber-athlete type
That said, achilles is pretty major, and even a little drop in athleticism can have big effects. Hope he gets most if not all of it back! Good luck KD
He's approaching 31 and won't likely be back until he's 32. And the odds are highly probably he doesn't get back to 100% of what he was. The only basketball player to get back to close to 100% was the great Nique Wilkins. A great athlete with a rubber body and out of this world physical gifts.
Durant has elite shooting skills and his height allows him to release his shot at a very high point which makes it hard to block. He won’t forget how to shoot. He probably won’t ever get to 100 percent of what he was but certainly even 85 percent of Durant is still a top 20 player in the league. If he signs with the Knicks he will have basically 16-17 months to rehab because they would give him the whole season off. It gives the knicks another year to develop young players and get another lottery pick. They will go into 2020 with a ton of young players Durant and cap space to either sign another star or trade for another star. I would prefer this over signing kemba walker or jimmy butler. He would only have 3 years left on his deal it’s not like this is a 6 year commitment.
but I agree with bw. This is a hard pass for me. I was all for signing KD to a max deal the moment he opted out of the Warriors contract, but after an Achilles rupture in his 30s?
Nah. He will be 32 by the time he is back in playing shape, and (according to all statistics) likely to be in steep decline. Signing him to a max contract would put the Knicks in the familiar territory of being financial bound to a declining older star who might put butts in the seats but is unlikely to bring the team into serious contention. Nope.
Also, obviously, do not trade for Davis unless he agrees to a long term deal as part of the trade.

We've likely seen Durant's better days.
80% of Durant is still better than 90% of the league.

Ready for opening night 2020-21.

Our own Carl Banks wasn't too thrilled with that hot take:
