This is a great read ....The Yankees almost got Votto .. the Yankees Signed Mark Texeria six years after Joey Votto was drafted .....Giving up the draft pick the angels used to take Mike Trout Who the Yankees were in on as well....So if they had gotten a Joey Votto it may have lead to Mark Trout as well ?.....Votto was a rookie the same year trout was drafted ....they might have three or four more rings

Do you have a reputable source for that story? I have never heard that and frankly it does not make a lot of sense
I think there’s a lot of revisionist history… If you think this guys the next Mickey Mantle you don’t take somebody out of hm IMO

They had back to back picks IIRC
It's fun to imagine how he would've looked in a Yankees uniform, but it was never going to happen.
Let me get my last shot in, anybody that us Yankees fan can dream on in this draft? It's like they are not even trying to hit a home run anymore.

Drafts don't work like that now. If Anthony Volpe is Michael Young (a career WAR
24.6 player) as a few scouts have said that love him the Yankees would be ecstatic with that and he will be playing long after most of the 1st round bombed out. If Josh Smith is anything like Scooter Gennett the Yankees won their draft. The Yankees use to try hit homeruns with the Cito Culvers, Dante Bichette, Jrs, and Ty Hensleys of the world. After 2012 they changed a lot of their scouts and now draft much better. And when they sour on a player like Eric Jagielo they trade him before the wheels fall off.
At this point you would think Yankees fans would understand the Yankees know what they are doing and trust them. But fans are fans.

Went out last night, wasn't ignoring you. Honestly I can't remember where I heard it, likely a podcast. I have no first hand knowledge of the situation, and maybe it is revisionist history. Maybe the Angels really loved Randal Grichuk more and would have taken him had they only had one pick.
Two points to keep in mind though. Even if the Yankees didn't sign Tex, the 25th pick would have gone to the Brewers for the CC signing. And Mike Trout's father played minor league ball on the same team with some Angels front office folks. They had a longstanding relationship with the Trout family. Bottom line, I've resigned myself to the fact that Mike Trout never would have made it to the Yankees pick @ 29.
As for the Votto angle. I had also heard the Yankees were supposedly on the phone with Votto when the Reds picked him, like Strahan and the Cowpukes. Guess you can't win them all.
I'm glad you relayed this story. For the past 2 years my 11 year old son has been whining that if we didn't sign Texiera we could have had Trout. I'll tell him now it never was gonna happen.

But then wouldn't they have had to pay the player they selected ahead of Trout more slot money than if they took him with their second pick? Not seeing how it would save them any money.
