I hope a few knowledgeable members (perhaps those who went through a recent dishwasher purchase themselves) can weigh in with their dishwasher recommendations. We are in the market for a new dishwasher.
Aside from the standard stuff (functionality and level of noise) we are looking for a reliable brand with stainless steel (inside and out) and only 24" models that come with a third cutlery rack. Wifi capability is completely superfluous to us. We would like to keep the cost below $1,000, including tax, delivery, and hauling away our old unit.
We are considering the Bosch 300 and 500 series, as well as some of the LG models with Quadwash. But these are just based off of some disjointed internet research.
Does anyone have any thoughts or guidance? Thanks in advance.
On my Frigidaire it seems like it takes a half a day to wash, dry, sanitize - whatever that means.
and when I replace this one, I will look for something faster.
My wife is very neurotic. She cannot go to sleep at night with a dirty dish anywhere in our house so that dishwasher is seemingly constantly running.
She's like this with the laundry too.

We are definitely going to hold out for the 4th, but we figure its best to be ready to pull the trigger then rather than start research at that point.
UConn, may ask what put the Bosch SHP865WD5N model over the top for you and your wife?
Longer wash cycles and poorer performance have more to do with the detergents than the washers. Phosphates were banned from detergents a few years ago, which reduced washing performance especially if you have hard water. The current detergents rely on enzymes which need a longer a wash cycle to be effective. The top quality detergents do a pretty good job now, though in hard water they still can’t scour pots well.

My wife used to work for Electrolux so she knows all these products really well. It’s a combination of great performance in this price range as well as matching our other appliances (one of which is a Bosch fridge).
They are soooo quiet. In fact they have a red light that shines on the floor to let you know it's on.
My family room and kitchen are open concept, and we can't hear the dishwasher at all
Bosch 500 series - ( New Window )
One thing we had to get used to was when the wash is completed including drying there are three pings. This took a few times to get used to that nothing was wrong.
We got ours at Best Buy over a July 4th sale. It was best price plus they give you a bunch of Best Buy dollars which you can use on other purchases.
Good Luck
The LG has a lot of bells and whistles like WIFI and other crap that you probably will never need. I can see having WIFI be useful if you could actually control things, but it's just for notifications and to download custom wash cycles.
The one thing I absolutely love, is the adjustable middle rack and all of the racks are customizable. You can flip the tines down to accommodate any configuration which is nice touch.
The 3rd rack on the top is also a fantastic addition, no longer have to figure out how to fit a ladle or a long knife.
Another thing I will mention is, it's very quiet, I can barely hear it running.
LG Dishwasher - ( New Window )
Best dishwasher I have ever owned. So quiet. The only way I know it is on is by the display and when I hear the water going into the drain in the sink.
We're moving to a new house in August that will have all new Whirlpool appliances.
Smaller, open plan, so I am concerned about noise levels, but with only 2 of us, we won't be running it as often.
And I agree that the detergent makes a difference. Always thought Cascade was the best but Finish seems to do best with this machine.
FWIW, we had a inexpensive Frigidaire with a plastic tub that was just great. Most likely cleaned better than the Kitchenaid. It was the baskets that eventually rusted out and fell apart.

Yup, we had the same issue with a builder basic GE. Thing was loud as hell but did a great job cleaning the dishes. However, the racks would rust out every 2-3 years and we finally decided to just get a better brand dishwasher. Ended up getting a Bosch in December, no regrets.
I had the same issue with mine. Control board fried itself (you could smell it). Had it replaced and has been ok.
That is sooo inaccurate because when she does break down you wish it only cost you a few hundred bucks
I love it!
