Zac Schomler discuses Dak's strengths and weaknesses on his youtube page. He likes Dak's discipline and the mental side of his game. He feels Dak isn't accurate enough on deep passes. Link - ( New Window )
That has been pretty much my take on Dak. He is very good Â
at a lot of things a QB needs to do. Leadership, running a huddle, and pre and post snap reads are top notch. He just doesn't have anywhere close to the accuracy deep or to the sideline you need in the NFL. Kills lots of worms out there. Also a fumbler. They didn't use him enough in the run game where he excels. During the regular season I get it, but during the playoffs? I knew Linehan was getting fired right after that Rams game.
Dak does a lot of the hard stuff well, but if he doesn't improve his accuracy the Cowboys will be seeing a lot of Cover 1 or doubles on Amari and that is going to be really tough on an offense that wants to run the ball.
Serious question. I thought the book on Dak was that he wasn’t good at reading the defense and so they kept the offense pretty simple for him with single receiver plays and not a lot of play calling at the LOS.
As long as he has that awesome Online ..like Rypien with The Hogs... he'll be right as rain. After that? In a few years, "Oh yeah, I remember Dak!"
More than a few years, most likely. They've got everybody locked up long-term except for La'el Collins (UFA next year), and they've used their last two 2nd Round picks on O-Linemen - Connor Williams last year, Connor McGovern this year (so they might not make a huge effort to re-sign Joe Looney, although he did okay for them when they lost Frederick). They've got quality depth with Cameron Fleming and Xavier Su'a Filo, too
I hate to say it, but the Cowboys aren't stupid. They know exactly what the strength of their offense is, and I suspect they'll continue t add to that strength whenever possible.

McGovern was a 3rd round pick this year.
I think they might groom Williams this year to be Collins replacement after this season because they can't afford to pay another OL with the massive deals given to Smith, Martin, and Frederick. They hope that Williams takes a big step forward this year and is a suitable replacement for Collins.
Dallas has excellent depth along the OL but hopefully Williams and McGovern don't develop as they hoped because their line is also pretty young. Smith is the oldest starter at 28.
In the offensive line but there have been chinks in the armor. Smith has had health issues and hasn’t played at his previous all pro level in a couple years now. Travis Frederick is trying to come back from that disease that caused him to miss all of last season, as well as surgeries.
The pick they spent this past season was a 3rd rounder not a second, Connor Williams played ok as a rookie, not at the level of Will Hernandez but he was ok. It’s not as though they can expect every lineman they draft to turn out to be first team all pros like Frederick, Smith and Martin. I do think they’ve adopted this as their model offensively, to fortify the line and build a strong rushing attack as the foundation of their offense however that’s going to get a bit tricky going forward with large contracts coming up for Dak, Amari and Zeke.

McGovern was insurance for Frederick(injury) or Williams(performance). They drafted Williams the year before in hopes that he would be the answer at LG. He struggled there last year so they are still unsure if he is the answer there or possibly at RT. If he doesn't pan out and Collins leaves in free agency then they could be in trouble especially since 3rd round picks are not locks.
The Cowboys have such a good OL because they have invested 1st round picks in Smith, Frederick, and Martin. Now obviously they all turned out to be great picks but they lucked out big time with Collins who would have been a 1st round pick also had it not been for the legal issue at the time.
The jury is still out on Williams and McGovern.
Dak's agent has recently broached $34M/yr for Dak. Â
They could have had him locked up for 25 million a year. Dak would have jumped at that at the time due to his severe underpayment. Now all these crazy QB numbers out I'll be surprised if he settles for less than 31/32 million a year.

Good points all. Hopefully, money will be the factor that sees this team break apart. Particularly with the line. The smart move for the Boys would be to pay the line and find another Dak.
