Happ vs. Nova

So Nova is going
section125 : 6/13/2019 8:31 pm : link
to pitch his one sterling performance tonight?
Man Gardy can still
section125 : 6/13/2019 8:41 pm : link
fly.

Another RBI from Frazier who I think is batting over .400 w/RISP.

Maybe Maybin is in trouble......
no way Frazier is going down to keep Maybin up
RasputinPrime : 6/13/2019 8:46 pm : link
we have Gardy for defense. Without strong starting pitching, we need bats every night.

They do have Tauchman just in case of injury if they let Maybin go.
I think we got all the value out of Maybin and Morales

that we are going to get.

I agree about Morales but Maybin is a solid pro and still has something left IMO.

Yeah, Maybin has plenty value as a reliable 4th OF. Morales is below marginal at this point. And Maybin is better than Tauchman at this point.

As Gardy mashes again.
What is the deal with the pitchers looking in their hats?
Jints in Carolina : 6/13/2019 9:30 pm : link
.
Happ being stupid.
section125 : 6/13/2019 9:30 pm : link
Yeah walking Jimenez is the thing to do to get to a .190 hitter. Then throw 4 straight offspeed balls to that .190 hitter.

I just don't understand why we didn't go after Corbin and Kikuchi who had upside and then paid Happ like he is someone we will rely on in the playoffs.

I wonder if when they unintentionally-intentionally walk someone(pitch around) if the lose their feel. He was pounding the zone until that inning.
Happ

running out of gas. I hope they dont blow a 4-run lead for the sake of getting Happ the win.

Sucks. Charlie Morton same age was cheaper and is 8-0 never should of resigned this guy and took a chance on Morton
It's sad that I'm already wondering
illmatic : 6/13/2019 9:57 pm : link
how difficult it will be for them to get out of the third year of Happ's contract.
Strange, strange signing Happ was for more than a year.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/13/2019 10:03 pm : link
Hell, the first year isn't even looking like anything to write home about. Ooof.

Can we please get a good pitcher and enough of these mediocre at best pitchers like Happ, Gray, current day CC, etc. Christ. Get a good pitcher in here.

There were some injury concerns with Morton. No idea if we were ever interested but I found the amount we signed Happ for to be ridiculous regardless.
Hicks looks lost
section125 : 6/13/2019 10:30 pm : link
tonight. That was ball three, but close and he looks uncomfortable.
I say it every GD game
RasputinPrime : 6/13/2019 10:30 pm : link
if these fucking donkeys behind the plate would call the zone, hitters wouldn't be in bad counts and wouldn't be striking out this much. There might actually be plays in the field to enjoy.

I remember watching This Week in Baseball and homeruns were not the only highlights. Now when i watch highlights, it's basically an exercise in who hit the homers.

Looks slow? Compared to who?

I'm not worried about Hicks. Just a bad night.
How close is Betances to coming back?

Looking for another option to protect against fatigue in the bullpen, which might be setting in on Ottavino.

He's had less than 100 AB's this year and his defensive metrics are great thus far. You are really awful at this stuff.
Isn't..
FatMan in Charlotte : 6/13/2019 10:46 pm : link
Hicks trending to be a top 5 OF for defensive stats?

How the hell does a slow guy do that playing CF?

I can't wait until Urshela cools off and people can beat their chest proudly that he's a stiff.

Shut down with a lat injury if I heard it correctly. So just like Sevy, what started out as a shoulder somehow developed into a lat injury - that is what I believe I heard Kay say Tuesday.

Wow
section125 : 6/13/2019 11:28 pm : link
just wow. They are back to the previous 10 years of one big inning and then sleep walking through the rest of the game.

BP must be tired. That crap that Otto threw up there tonight was pathetic.

Oh well, try again tomorrow and hope Stanton doesn't trip in the shower...
is anyone even going to argue against
RasputinPrime : 6/13/2019 11:39 pm : link
keeping Frazier in the lineup? He approaches each AB angry.
That was ugly.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/14/2019 12:17 am : link
Happ shit his pants. Otto shit his pants. The offense was non-existent for the last 5 innings of the game with awful ABs strewn all over the place. (I'm sure these guys know you have to swing at pitches over the plate with 2 strikes, right?)
3-7
nygnyy274 : 6/14/2019 5:13 am : link
Since the Sunday night game against a Price a game which everyone and there mother thought they would win and bury the the Red Sox, of course I didnt happen. Failed to bury the Red Sox. They are failing to gain games in Tampa. Then lost a series to a bad Blue Jay team. Lost a series to a Indian team that is not any good and did not even see Kluber. Bauer or Carrasco. Gave up 10 runs Tuesday night to a Met team that cant score. And lost to Jason Vargas. And lose to another crappy team last night to start a 4 game series. The starting pitching has been atrocious, the bullpen is atrocious and the yankee offense aside from the Tuesday afternoon game has been bad to. These are games they should not be losing. Up 4-0 last night and cant hold the lead. Up 5-0 Sunday blew that game were lucky they won it. Blew a game in Toronto the same way. Team wont win every game and yes will blow a game here in there but it is now becoming a pattern over the last two weeks. And after this week, series against Tampa Houston and trip to London to play Boston and have a tough month of July. They better go out and get another starting pitcher or this team will be lucky enough to even make a wild card game. I dont care if Judge or Stanton or coming back. The pitching sucks on this team. Also Betances is a big big loss
Yes Cash needs to do
section125 : 6/14/2019 6:51 am : link
something with the SP quickly. Happ and Tanaka pitch well, have one bad inning that blows up the game then leads to a short appearance and over taxes the BP. The BP has been awful since the Red Sox Price game. Bad enough CC can barely get thru 5. They almost need Nestor Cortez to shadow CC and complete his games(or some designated finisher.)

Frazier plays the OF and you keep Urshela at 3rd. DH voit. Urshela should not be taking out of this line up its ridiculous now

Because he's been slumping.

So because he is slumping means Tauchman whose batting .211 gets playing time over Urshela. Gio had 3 hits against the Mets he wont come out of it unless he plays there was a off day Wednesday and he didnt play last night. Keep him at 3rd and let Voit DH and Frazier in left simple,

The HR ball kills Happ again.

He pitches well for stretches, but he just can't keep the ball in the park.

I am a bit concerned about the starting pitching - to the point where in retrospect, we might regret not going the extra mile to get Keuchel. I know a bunch of guys here will disagree with that - but, if for any reason Severino can't get back and pitch effectively, we're going to be in serious trouble.

It's not even about Keuchel being special or an ace or anything like that. We need starters who can soak up innings and give us length.

Otherwise, we're going to crush the bullpen and overuse guys like Otto, Kahnle and Britton.

Kahnle has been so fucking good that it has basically offset the loss of Betances, so that's been a major plus... but we still will need to ride these guys hard in October, so we need to get more innings from the starters.

Right now, I'm just concerned about Pax's knee barking/bugging him the rest of the year, not getting Sevy back at the level we expect... Masa's missing splitter, Happ not being able to keep the ball in the park, German's innings limit/injury... CC being at the end.

I'd have not only signed Keuchel, but I'd also still have pursued a starter in the trade market on top of that.

It's not panic mode by any means, and it's only June 14th. But you can see some cracks forming in the SP foundation right now and I'd hate to see the whole thing just fall apart there before we can get some reinforcements.

That is true, but they are not playing very good baseball
right now, it's more than a reversion to the mean.
Their rotation has been particularly ugly during this stretch, and the BP not as good.
Another thing is they are not adding on runs when they score early, gives the other team belief.
That occurred again last night, although no excuse for Happ blowing a 4-0 lead to the Pale Hose.
