has there been a team in the nearly 2 decades since that team won the super bowl that has based their defense on that model? Huge DTs, elite linebackers, and good corners? Most of the great defenses these days are pass rushing mavens, but could a similar model to that team work in today's NFL?
*incoherently grumbles*
Defense was ranked #1 in passing yards, #3 in rushing yards (#1 in y/a), and #1 in points. Held all 3 opponents they faced that postseason under 18 points. Held NE under 250 total yards in the AFCCG and Carolina under 200 yards in the SB.
They weren't as dominant as Baltimore but they won a championship just the same.
+1 They had a guy named Ray Lewis you might remember him. One of the all-time greats, but still an a-hole.
Also going (back) to a 3-4 may be a factor.
Where is our LT? ;)
An interesting note....the 49ers very much became a Ravens west defensively because Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary came from the Ravens.
They ran the 3-4 just the same, and had very good run stopping ability.
