if you don't pitch hit for him, he absolutely needs to be out there in the 10th. A tie game in the 10th inning is one of highest leverage situations you can have.
Completely random and unrelated note. Our old friend Ruben Tejada (still only 29 years old) is hitting to a 143 wRC in a little under 100 AAA ABs. .434 OBP. We'll likely see him at some point this year.
I know this trade looks like it may be a mistake but we can't un-do it. My hope is that if, BVW and Mickey C have to reassign Diaz's role, then do so. I know we traded for a "closer" but if he is blowing leads then he needs a different role as well.
on in real time, so you're seeing instant reaction to a blown 9th inning lead by a player we paid a very very high price to acquire.
I don't think anyone is sitting back here and saying the season is over, but a lot of posters on these threads are die-hard Met fans and are going to vent when the teams takes a real gut-punch of an inning.
LOL, I always love when random posters log on to complain
about other people complaining. As if they haven't been around this team for the last half century.
Every year a couple of posters give us the old "there's a lot of season left" mantra...and every year the season is already over in June/July.
If you can't understand why the majority of fans have zero faith in this team - then you just aren't that big of a fan. The Mets have earned NOTHING when it comes to the benefit of the doubt. The Cano/Diaz trade is a gleaming example of how this is just more of the same.
(which we're likely at least a 65% favorite to win given the extra 3 outs) and win tonight with Matz to get above .500. Then you'll see some excitement on these threads.
It's almost halfway through the season, get fucking above .500 already and let's get going! There's still a lot to like about this team but it's so damn frustrating seeing the pen cough away games left and right.

oh I get it, but whats the point of being a fan if you're gonna act like a little bitch all the time.
The Mets got a shitty, old, PED user 2B (NOT a position of need), and an overrated one-year-wonder closer.
And it only cost them a good part of their future.
Bravo!
Some will come out of hiding and still defend it. It is what it is. BVW is lucky it was the first move he made because it's literally a fireable offense. Sandy didn't make a move that bad in 8 years, even with 20/20 hindsight on the Cespedes + Wright contracts. After netting the insurance payments we will probably end up paying Cano more than both of those guys.

Show some resiliency.
I've been a Mets fan since the early 80s. I think I've got the "resiliency" thing covered.
Unfortunately, I can't just flip a switch and root for the other NY team because grandma was a fan. So this is what I got. A shit sandwich and a poopy-flavored lollipop.

Same shit sandwich here.
Yay for 1986.
Literally was discussing met life w a mets fan coworker today
Different personalities and walks of life. Yet we both said the exact same thing about the Mets always failing and falling short to make their product better or to build on a near perfect product. Like the last WS team. Or the one before that.
Its a running joke for most true fans. Your arent a mets fan if you dont at least see the humor in the negativity.
it's kind of refreshing to skip the first 8 innings and go straight to the nut shot. We should play all of our games this way.
also i find it mildy hilarious that scouts were knocking Alonso's glove like it was a trainwreck and he's probably our best defensive player (for his respective position).
So, I will take this as a portent that things are about to take a turn - that history repeats itself and Dominic Smith hits a 12th inning home run in the first game against the division leading Braves on Monday that leads to a sweep that becomes the turning point of a run to the pennant punctuated by Jed Lowrie finally comes off the IL and hitting the first pitch he sees into the left field upper deck against Philly right before the ASB in July putting us in first place of the division which we don't relinquish. Because history repeats itself and weird shit happens.
none of his decisions are bound by any continuous logic, 1 minute he's trying some new school theory the next he's bunting or double switching crappy players just to get a righty/lefty matchup. The way he runs the team is hands off, the way he disciplined Cano a few weeks ago was inconsistent at best, the Noah decision and explanation, all of his interactions with the media. Everything is 'throw shit at the wall see what sticks' with the only core features being a lack of accountability, results, or consistency. Just put him out of his misery (or us).
also I suppose that word describes the whole org - not just Mickey
BVW's offseason was similarly unconstrained by much core logic other than the consistent thread of bringing in his former clients. I liked the embrace of contact hitters and the attempt to upgrade the bullpen, he just way overpaid for mediocre upgrades in both respects and undervalued defense.
Diaz has been a disappointment. Fantastic fucking trade.
Please find a way to win tonight. Cant keep falling so far behind Atlanta.
Don't focus on the negative, the wilpons also got save a little money on the BP this year.
Not really their fault. The delay was less than 10 minutes. Hard to blame anyone else when Diaz walked the first guy on 5 pitches with a 2 run lead.

ground crew managing the end of this game too.

Ace closer should be able to handle the 7 and 8 hitters.
Absolutely huge game tonight. The team has to rally and pull this out. Cant lose another DeGrom game and fall 6 behind Atlanta.
Obviously that's still an excuse, should be able to close it out. But sometimes luck don't help much either
And other times it's just the Mets
Not if you want to win.

Can we let this play out a bit more? fucking A.
Are we going to bitch and come apart every time things don't go the Mets way?

Officially, the #Mets are listing Edwin Daz as the pitcher who will pitch the 10th inning if needed. We will see if that changes.

Makes sense. Diaz does his job and we have two innings to score a run. I'm sure he'll be very motivated.

Nice that the DP came next pitch for kicks
They will win the next game 15-1 and we will say "if only they could have just scored 1 run in the 9th earlier". Book it.
Also fwiw had 3-4 HR bids that just didn't carry yesterday...off the top McNeil, Ramos, Dom (iirc JD or Pete?)
Whatever, on to the next one
Not saying he shouldn't be fired but that would be a Mets thing to do.
Going after DeJong was classic Mickey. So, obvious that you pitch around him to set up the GIDP with Goldschmidt.
I used to feel sorry for Mickey but I have to realize he is an arrogant prick who really thinks he knows better than conventional wisdom.
That actually holds up without any sarcasm given vs LAD it was the best hitter in the game by every measure at that moment (if not still)
