He seems to be doing this almost daily now....
QB DANIEL JONES: "The sixth overall pick finished strong, completing a handful of pinpoint throws at the indoor practice. He opened with an impressive pass to Rhett Ellison on the left sideline before connecting with Scott Simsonson, another tight end, for a touchdown during red-zone drills. His best play went to wide receiver Bennie Fowler, who got enough clearance down the middle of the field and Jones hit him in stride. That’s how you finish spring practices and set the stage for training camp."

So far, as good as I could have hoped.
So we can go full circle with the latest Duke QB

High on his name,
Daniel Jones you better watch your speed!
If you listen carefully, you'll hear that the enthusiasm "is relative to what was expected from the rookie QB" and "a pleasant surprise."
Well at least in Big Blue Land. much of the consternation about DJ's selection at 6 overall is abating, and that's a good thing.
Listen carefully, and you'll also hear that his long passes "have too much air underneath them" and he performed poorly when he had to throw in a stiff wind - even though he was throwing mostly short and mid range passes with the wind, not into it. His throws sailed. It was a day when the winds whipped up to 25 mph, hardly unusual in the Meadowlands area, and well short of the 35-40 mph gusts that kick up in December.
The above notes paraphrased from Patti Traina.
Hey John Mara.. Stay the F out of it, and let ur GM & Coach do what is best for the team. Thank you.
But, if given the option of hearing the current reports vs. those coming out of Miami or D.C., I'll take the former any day.
And after one series with Jones.....

Practice matters!
"People," don't know dick.
Practice ALWAYS matters. Reps for any player, esp rookies always matter. The actual results - esp in non-contact, low pressure situations not as much, if only for the thousands of examples of great practice / preseason players who do nothing come game time. That is far from saying "practice doesn't matter" tho
That said, it's always better when the results are positive. Just some are not that concerned either way re: OTAs. Whether that's a W&L of OTA list, or how good the rook QB looks after all the criticism of the #6 pick

I'll go by what I've seen, and all the highlights show him throwing a pretty deep ball. The rest of the beat writers have said he has greater than expected arm strength. There were also earlier windy/rainy days in OTAs where Jones was commended for throwing tight spirals and nice passes through the wind.
Traina is just butt hurt because they didn't follow her advice and go D in the draft. She thought Eli was fine and wanted him to continue to play. Forgive me if I don't go jumping off a cliff over her opinion, particularly where it is rebuffed by nearly every other media member out there, including national writers who have watched Jones in OTAs and minicamp.
Regarding the wind, I’m assuming this is relevant to some discussion of arm strength. I’m happy about the good reports on Jones but I kind of cringe a bit when the beat writers start doing evals on arm strength or how much air should or shouldn’t be on a pass. They might be right, they might be wrong I’m just not sure their qualifications on making those kind of statements. Chalk one up to the jury’s still out on Daniels arm strength, we are going to see for ourselves soon enough.

Even though who wanted Eli extended should understand the taking of a quarterback at 6. With a quarterback closing in on 40, it would have been ridiculous to pass on a quarterback with a top 6 pick two years in a row.
Eli is going to get the chance to keep Jones in the bench. The one thing that is different is extended bad play by the offense will lead to a change at quarterback, and it should.

Thanks Jerry! Blast from the past.
The rest of the video was brutal. Like watching a bunch of drunks talk sports in a bar. Strong opinions unmoored by logic.

So I guess you're not "people"...While the reports are encouraging I'll wait to see him do it with a chance of actually getting hit.

Correct!
Context matters.

Can’t be worse than the pressure he regularly dealt with at Duke.
You think it blows this year, because it did last year? How do you possibly have any idea about this year?
Judging this year's secondary off of last year is really dumb.
We upgraded a ton of DBs. We added Peppers, Baker, Love, Beal, Ballantine & Bethea.
Oh God! Don't even put that out there lol
Eli is better than Burleson thinks, but is worse than Patti thinks.

I'm guessing you're joking, comparing being the Duke QB to that of an NFL team...in New York???
I remember people raving about how Sinorice Moss looked in OTA too.

That's not what he did. You said that you haven't seen DJ play when he can be hit, he pointed out that DJ has done so for some time.
I'll add, with a piss poor receiving corps and a porous OLine.

Let's be clear, do you think our secondary this year will be good? Please tell me more.
Which says everything about our defense this year and nothing about the actual strength of our secondary relative to capable NFL team's. But yet you may indeed be right.
This post alone..
Should be archived.

Exactly. A lot of youth there but once they gel it should be a huge upgrade.
Trust me, they can't wait for Jones to implode, but you have to think his play and the reviews coming out have forced them to shut their pie holes and I for one am enjoying the piece and quiet.
Go Giants

David - how about the guy here (bw in dc) who made a million posts on how Jones wasn't special and had a rag arm. Haven't seen him around lately.
As I said a few times then, anyone who actually watched Jones play and didn't think he had a good arm has no credibility. And the ball looks to be exploding out of his hand at practice, with accuracy and a quick release.
And oh yeah, he's 6'5" with great mobility and toughness.
And oh yeah, he can read a D and has NFL footwork already.
Sure, nothing to see here. I will never forgive the football world for their reaction to Jones, both before & after the pick. Nobody has any clue anymore. It's all bling & shiny objects.

I would rather have our secondary over any other in the NFC East. Is that better?

I think Dallas and Phili clearly have better secondaries this year. Washington's is horrible.
And for you who think Pat's comments that I referred to above are biased, let me point out that I took them out of the context of her overall praise for Jones including his arm strength and just about every aspect of his play to date... She's clearly "on the Jones train" as well as far as overall evaluation. She is simply more realistic about areas Jones needs to work on.
What makes her comments even more believable are that it re-confirms what's evident on Jones' college tape as well as the highlights throws now posted at Giants.com. Jones does put a ton of air under his deep balls - not necessarily because he has to but because it's his style - and Patti's observations (which obviously I trust since I know she "inherited" Inside Football from the late great Howard Livingston and was trained by Howard to some extent) was that DBs get too much of a chance to recover on those deep routes and break them up more than they should if the ball was "flatter."
This last glowing report - the subject of the thread OP - oh BTW it's not mentioned that it was based on practice INDOORS.
I'm rooting for Jones as much as anyone. He's our guy going forward. But let's not make him to be the next Mahomes or Rodgers because he simply isn't. If his ceiling is Joe Montanna - I hope it is - that's great.
I want Eli to have a great season, but it's hard not to be excited by Jones, and the prospect of him shutting a lot of blowhards up.
