D. Jones stands out again - June 13th OTA's.....

sxdxca : 6/13/2019 9:25 pm
He seems to be doing this almost daily now....

QB DANIEL JONES: "The sixth overall pick finished strong, completing a handful of pinpoint throws at the indoor practice. He opened with an impressive pass to Rhett Ellison on the left sideline before connecting with Scott Simsonson, another tight end, for a touchdown during red-zone drills. His best play went to wide receiver Bennie Fowler, who got enough clearance down the middle of the field and Jones hit him in stride. That’s how you finish spring practices and set the stage for training camp."

What Patti has to say? She's the 2nd biggest Eli homer out there only behind Dottino. Which is fine as a fan, but as a reporter you need to at least be objective. She isn't at all. All reporters have praised DJ heavily so far. Patti will come up with some BS like she wrote above. IMO she's as bad as Leonard & Lombardo.
agree; she's also not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer

it's hard not to be excited by Jones, and the prospect of him shutting a lot of blowhards up.

You know damned well that the blowhards will never shut up. If they decided they didn't like Jones as a prospect and preferred their own golden boy from the 2018 draft or the 2020 draft (of if they just hate Gettleman and think everything he does is wrong), they will hold it against Jones the rest of his career, even if he wins two Super Bowl MVPs.

Even if Jones becomes a successful starting QB for the Giants, you'll still hear people saying three years from now, "They shouldn't have taken him at #6, since they could have gotten him at #17," as if that would be important at that point. Or they'll exaggerate the weaknesses in Jones' game and minimize his strengths.

They're blowhards. It's what blowhards do.

What is new is that we have a QB we drafted at 6 and from all accounts looks like a guy that deserves to have a chance.

Which says everything about our defense this year and nothing about the actual strength of our secondary relative to capable NFL team's. But yet you may indeed be right.

I would rather have our secondary over any other in the NFC East. Is that better?

I think Dallas and Phili clearly have better secondaries this year. Washington's is horrible.

Clearly? I don't think so. Its certainly possible but we just retooled our secondary with several major investments which also include competition for depth. When healthy Jenkins can still be the best CB in the division, we've got a versatile S in Peppers and high ceiling potential from Baker. This doesn't include a "pro-ready" Love and hopefully a healthy Beal.

The Giants have as good a shot as either Dallas or Philly to have the best secondary in the division.

Point is, Manning is used to this by now. Not going to affect him one way or the other.

I'm rooting for Jones as much as anyone. He's our guy going forward. But let's not make him to be the next Mahomes or Rodgers because he simply isn't. If his ceiling is Joe Montanna - I hope it is - that's great.

True. They are all lesser slower propspects.

and maybe they don't.

But, if given the option of hearing the current reports vs. those coming out of Miami or D.C., I'll take the former any day.

Practice matters!

"People," don't know dick.

So I guess you're not "people"...While the reports are encouraging I'll wait to see him do it with a chance of actually getting hit.

Can’t be worse than the pressure he regularly dealt with at Duke.

I'm guessing you're joking, comparing being the Duke QB to that of an NFL team...in New York???

Not media pressure - I meant, in regards to your “actually getting hit” comment, that DJ has already experienced heavy pass rush pressure due to the mediocre Duke offense.

17 is a bad luck number

Which shows you it means nothing. Lets just hope Jones can get at least 3rd string QB spot

I dont think Dallas has a better secondary at all. There too 3 corners are fine, but I’d put the Giants right with them and think they have better depth by a mile. I think Giants safeties are clearly better than Cowboys. Philly is tougher to gauge for me because of Sydney Jones, I like Jenkins but if we are picking safeties tandems is still prefer Beathea/Peppers and I think our corners can be pretty close and have better depth as well. My guess is your preference for Dallas/Philly it’s baed on Giants adding many first year players...talent wise I don’t think they take a backseat to anyone in the division, wouldn’t trade our group for any other in NFC east.

Sadly you’re exactly right. Much like Eli’s career has been over scrutinized so will Daniel’s. I laugh at some of the fans that insist the media coverage with the giants is the same as other teams. Not even close. You telling me if the bengals took Jones the pick gets that much heat? Especially if people “knew” the giants wanted him at 17?

Giants always get more heat. Every team in this town does.

As you concede, Dallas's corners are better at each spot, and their FS was considered a breakout player last year. They win on that easily. Agreed that Heath sucks. Philly has better corners (right now) and safeties are more established as well - they win on that easily. We have nice young players at the moment it's possible we only have one corner who has played an NFL down in our top 4.
