NFT: Springsteen’s new album released in a few hours

TommytheElephant : 6/13/2019 10:18 pm
Western Stars.
There were 3 songs released so far (Tucson Train is probably my favorite)
Non E Street band album and has the 70’s California sound (a lot of artists you’d hear on SiriusXM 349 Bakersfield beat (Dwight yoakams channel))

In terms of the solo albums , the songs have a bit more devils and dust sound as opposed to Nebraska/ghost of Tom Joad...
Lots of French horns and drums reminiscent of the California 70s pop scene

Can’t wait for the full album! (Studio album number 19)
Expecting it to be delivered tomorrow

that guy is a fucking highlander.

Springsteen will be 70 this year.

He'll be running around arenas and stadiums at 71 years old?

I saw him for the Rising tour at Gillette (and about 15 other times), so a good 5 or 6 years ago - he was definitely over 60 at the time, and he was non-stop for 3+ hours.

Like him or hate him, you have to love the showmanship and marvel at the shape he's in to not be some fossil ripping off fans in his old age for a pay check.

No doubt.

I was one of the lucky ones to be at CBP in Philly in Sept 16 when he put on his longest USA concert ever. An astounding 4:04 with no set or encore breaks!

It was an amazing show and it wasn't like there were a lot of long jams or filler. It was pretty much balls to the wall most of the night.

The first 1:45 or so might've been my favorite run of tunes by him I've ever seen in over 50 shows since 78. We never got past 1975 until just under two hours into the show!

And it was my mistake
pjcas18 : 6/14/2019 8:30 am : link
I did see the Rising tour at Gillette, but my most recent time seeing him was the River at Gillette.

It was even better than the Rising, and he was probably 5 years older.
I have sen Bruce at least 70 times.
johnnyb : 6/14/2019 8:31 am : link
August 2016 at MetLife was an incredible four hour show, filled with songs from his first two albums. He actually gets better with age.

As for the new album, I will give it a chance but non- E Street albums have not been my favorite, with the exception of Tunnel of Love, which is one of my favorites. Curious to hear what the E Street album will sound like.

2020 Tour!

Yeah I hope the E St album will be a classic and I can't wait for the 2020 tour either.

You're not a fan of Nebraska? That one is my favorite non E St album of his.
To be fair

I have no hope for any more quality music being released.

I've liked individual songs that he's done in later years like Wrecking Ball, The Rising, but really haven't liked any album he's had since Born in the USA - and it was just a couple songs I liked on that album.

That said, it doesn't matter, he will put on a ridiculously great show for 3+ hours just based on his legendary songs.

I'd suggest giving Magic a few more spins on the turntable. It's a really great album that is severely underrated and aside from the tour supporting it, it doesn't get much play on stage time anymore for whatever reason.

Gypsy Biker is such a good song and my favorite from Magic.
Congratulations

Listended to it tons, it reminds me overall like Born in the USA - more pop-ish than his older stuff.

I like Radio Nowhere and Gypsy Biker, but when you set the bar with Born to Run, The River, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and then even Nebraska and the EP's it's hard to get excited about any of his other stuff.

Like I said, I like random songs from some of those albums but overall the gap between anything post Born in the USA and everything before it is cavernous (for me).

Yeah I'm not one for his pop type tunes either
Eman11 : 6/14/2019 9:12 am : link
I gotta say though I do like Girls In Their Summer Clothes. Probably because I live in a summer resort type town on the Jersey Shore and I know exactly where he's coming from with that one. Lol.

He said everything he needs to say in his first four albums.
Since than he has been rewriting the same songs. Some are still very good but but can't match the emotional impact of his previous work. His music has never really changed or progressed. I expect this will be more of the same.

LOL Everyone to their own,I guess! I've seen Bruce live 188 times & am so looking forward to seeing him & the ESB in 2020! Love Western Stars,no rewriting of same songs here.An entirely different way of presenting his music & as someone who loved the '70's genre of Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb, this is a throwback to that era! At 66 in 2016 & putting out 3.5/4 hour shows, the man is an enigma in that someone that age (and I'm 65) can have that kind of energy every show. The only concession he's made to age is not doing back to back shows(when possible). The fact that when he performs live next year,he'll have Western Stars & the new ESB album to debut on tour is really a tribute to the man & his music!!!

Bravo Mick. Well said.

Kudos on the 188 shows. I stopped counting at 50 but you've got me by at least 100.

I haven't been fortunate enough to see him abroad but I'm curious where your favorite spots to see him are?

I've seen him in many states but I have to say the Philly Spectrum is my all time favorite. I can't stand much about Philly but always loved shows there and I have to give them their due. It's a great Rock and Roll town and a huge Bruce town. Shows there are always a treat but the Spectrum ones were even more so.

For Phillyyyyyyyy!! Lol.
Ive seen Bruce from the beginning 1969 Steel Mill

saw him every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night at the Student Prince in Asbury Park circa 1971. I'm telling you some of the music he produced that was never recorded was sheer genius. Some cuts are available on bootleg but if produced in studio they would be outrageous ( don't you want to be an outlaw) ( Jumbalaya) ( sweet sweet Malenda) anyway age has nothing to do with talent and i suspect this album and tour will be terrific.
what people have never heard that us fortunate few saw back in the day was Bruce playing the blues. He is a terrific guitar player that he gets no credit for because he doesn't take the riffs.
As far as seeing him in a bar all i can tell you is the bartenders were dancing on the bar and the owner was outside having a water balloon fight. Boy those were the days
I saw him play in a bar

though it was the Tradewinds on Sea Bright. Not even sure it's there anymore.

My buddy grew up in Rumson and had a Cabana at the beach club next door to the Tradewinds. he said every summer there were rumors that Bruce was going to show up. and he'd never seen any of those rumors come true.

so anyway, we bought tickets for Johnny Pogonowski at the tradewinds. we were there with the anticipatory crowd.

Johnny came on stage around 8:30 I guess and began playing. Seemed like a fine musician, but dime a dozen. Out back in the outdoor area a lady was manning a table selling Johnny Pogonowski CD's (this was the mid-90's) and the CD's were some outrageous price like $19.99. I told her she was insane for selling them at that price and she said "I have a feeling after tonight people will feel differently about Johnny Pogonowski". So I had hope.

His set dragged on, kept drinking though. And people started to leave.

Around 10:30 or so he was thanking the crowd and said before I go I'd like to introduce my manager...Bruce Springsteen.

Place went nuts. Bruce came out and played Lucky Town (I thought ironically) with Johnny Pogonowski on stage maybe playing guitar. I forget.

Then played another Lucky Town or Human Touch song, and the place was still buzzing. Maybe 1,000 people probably more like a few hundred.

He then said I have some friends here tonight I'd like to have join me. I thought it was going to be more Johnny Pogonowski's, but no he said "Miami Steve Van Zandt, come up here" "Max Weinberg, are you out there?" one by one the entire E-street Band, sans Clarence came up on stage.

They played until after 2 in the morning. It was the most insane "concert" I'd ever been to. He wanted to play longer, but he said the cops were outside and told the owner he had to close up. They played everything, Backstreets, Badlands, Darkness, Candy's Room, Born to Run, Promised Land the River, it was like 75-85 live almost.

I'll never forget that night. So, not old school Bruce in Asbury Park playing Blues, but for me as close as I'd ever get.
