The fact that the Browns players supported Duke Johnson, a fuckin nobody, and made their best player the bad guy, shows you that as far as Cleveland goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Youve got a young star, team first guy saying we want guys who wanna be here, you dont wanna be here, fine seeya later. and the whole team comes to the defense of the guy saying get me the fuck outta here. mayfield is the only one of them who actually gets it...
inspired a few nasty tweets from Luther Campbell, also known as Luke from 2 Live Crew, whose wife works for the sports agency that represents Duke Johnson. One of 2 Live Crew’s more infamous songs was called Doo Doo Brown.
Forgetting the browns side, Duke would be a good trade target Â
he'd be a good change of pace back to mix in with Barkley and a good kick returner. Could even play him in that same pseudo-WR capacity. Another playmaker on offense never hurts.

I remember Banned in the USA and then though they disintegrated back into obscurity.

The point is Duke Johnson would love to say "seeya later" but the GM won't trade or release him. So Baker is complaining about the wrong guy, he should be complaining that Dorsey needs to let those who won't out get out. Bottomline is that Baker is going against the union code of sticking up for fellow union members in their fights with management.

Exactly, this is all about crossing the picket line. There's no way to side with MGMT as a player and NOT piss people off....so don't do it publicly.

They aren’t still a thing but will forever have a place in history because of the whole issue around the PMRC and “Explicit Lyrics” stickers on CDs back then. Luke was mentioned in the linked article which is definitely an odd reference. I found it funny because of Doo Doo Brown- Cleveland Browns. (Yeah, my wife didn’t think it was funny either.)

It could be a veiled criticism of OBJ using a skrub.

And Mayfield for all his talent does have some maturity issues. He's passionate and wants to win but stuff like this can fracture a locker room. This is an issue he should just avoid commenting on at all.

Or, maybe Mayfield's schtick doesn't play well with grown men. He's a frat boy who isn't in college anymore.

Why are you still here? I seem to remember you being conspicuously absent after your dogshit franchise canned their GM in favor of their googly-eyed head coach. Why don't you run along and go find yourself a Jets message board to share your useless opinions with?

Disclaimer: I don't give a rat's ass about the Browns or any individual on their team.
But, just from an amusement standpoint, I like how the article points out the blatant hypocrisy intrinsic to Mayfield's comments. For the exact same reason as Johnson, Mayfield fled Texas. The one difference between them is that Mayfield *could*.
Baker transferred and lost a season of eligibility. Â
Greg didn’t like Eli? I’ve been here 15 years — never noticed that.
Hard to notice what isn't there.
Eli had an unusual career arc. Few QBs have had such wild swings between awful performances and truly great performances. His is a hard career to accurately assess. I did grow tired of the perpetual excuses for poor play. That's absolutely true. No, of course not everything was his fault - even then, however, he still wasn't blameless in the whole thing. How much blame he deserved is debatable, but there are some people who would not accept assigning him any responsibility whatsoever.
He's not my favorite QB ever. I am a Phil Simms lifer. Simms will always be my guy. That's just the way it is. I will say that Eli at his best was capable of carrying a team, and that his playoff run in 2011 was one of the greatest I've ever seen from a QB. I wish he had a few more of them, but I'm certainly not about to give back that one.
RE: Baker transferred and lost a season of eligibility. Â
and they fire him and try to bring in a "name" coach.
I don't even get the hire. The person who led their turnaround was Gregg Williams. They already had Kitchens at OC and he wasn't on anybody's hot list. I thought Williams had more than earned the right to have the "interim" taken off his title and as a veteran in the league (for better or for worse), I don't think anyone would question he could deal with the combustible mix they have in the locker room.
RE: RE: Baker transferred and lost a season of eligibility. Â
Point is Mayfield begrudging someone else for wanting the same thing he himself did.
Except that Duke Johnson signed a contract and is under contract until 2022 when he hits FA again. Professional and College football isn't an apples to apples comparison. I mean maybe he gets traded if he threatens to holdout, but from a business perspective Dorsey only gets Hunt for 8 Games and than he is a FA. Either they let Hunt Walk or he signs back with the Chiefs and they trade him in 2020. Pretty clear what Dorsey wants to do as far as this year is concerned, he isn't trading Duke unless he gets a real nice package.
It sucks players in the nfl or college don’t get the playing time they envision or expect. But like they say “when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And the rest become Sooners”
because it's not just OBJ but Mayfield as well. It seems there's a large contingent that would like to see the Browns fail, and it's not just Beckham that triggers those emotions but Mayfield.
The weird part of that is unlike Darnold, the Giants didn't have a shot at Mayfield. Not sure if it's just him being outspoken or if it's association with Beckham that has people wanting that entire organization to go down in flames, but there's certainly a sentiment there.
In my personal view, I feel it's inevitable that they will implode with so much personality and ego. It will be a truly interesting thing to watch.
I have no ill-will towards OBJ or Mayfield (he's actually who I wanted the Giants to take at QB). You have large personalities at QB, both WR spots, TE, and RB. There's only one ball to go around and with all that talent someone is going to be left out and not be happy
It sucks players in the nfl or college don’t get the playing time they envision or expect. But like they say “when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And the rest become Sooners”
Accept that there is no commitment. They can pull a scholarship at any point. To counter this problem the NCAA says you need to sit out a year. Baker thought that was his best option. Clearly was the right move.
Duke Johnson signed an actual contract and is getting paid. How do you not see the difference? You clearly just don't like Baker if you are using the NCAA's bullshit system to justify this.

If you took a venn diagram of those that don't like Baker and those that don't like Odell it would be pretty close to a circle.
RE: Forgetting the browns side, Duke would be a good trade target Â

Assuming he doesn't want a new contract Duke Johnson would be a great addition if he could be had cheap. He is a better version of Gallman and would be an ideal fit for 3rd downs at the very least.
why would Mayfield care that Johnson wants to leave or leaves? Instead of criticizing Johnson, Mayfield should have applauded Johnson's desire to play football rather than sit on the bench and collect a paycheck.
RE: Given that the Browns have Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, Â

Hunt is suspended for 8 games.

Theres nothing weird about it at all. Theres the OBJ thing which is obvious. Then theres Baker Mayfield, who just seems like he could use a shot or two in the arm of humility. And then there are Browns fans who suddenly think their opinion on the Giants matters. They’ve been very annoying since the OBJ trade (obviously theyre going to side with their shiny new toy and defend everything he does) and seem to think they're guaranteed a trip to the Super Bowl this season. “Dream team” rosters never work out.
Yeah, I definitely cant wait to see this whole thing go down in flames. Its going to be amazing. Just like that cocky Eagles dream team from 2011.
Union Brotherhood. Rothlisburger (who should know better), played management's "boy" and alienated both Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.
Coach Mike Tomlin was left in "no man's land". Even if he saw the problem - what was he going to tell Ben ? "OK, back-off a bit, you're kissing-up too much !
Agreed.
I wish Eli had been more like him this whole time!
Mike Silver is BFFs with Hue Jackson and has spent most of his time since Hue's firing making shit up about the Browns.
I too think the team is going to implode, but this isn't the reason for it.
I wish Eli had been more like him this whole time!
I think Mayfield may have that 'headlight in the deer' personality.
They're still a thing? Luke and the 2live crew.
I remember Banned in the USA and then though they disintegrated back into obscurity.
Whoops.

You handle it behind the scenes.
I can see many players not liking it, because they could be next.
Mayfield is going to be interesting to watch. Does he continue to ascend or will his personality ultimately do him in?
I think the Browns are a team that is going to simply self-destruct with the personalities they have.
It could be a veiled criticism of OBJ using a skrub.
Seems you're pretty invested in wanting to see your own team struggle.
You didn't like Eli, you don't like Jones. The rest of us will be subjected to your incessant bitching for the foreseeable future.
Also, why do all of your football perspectives line up perfectly with those spewed by the bottom of the barrel, know nothing, talking heads?
That's what's pathetic.
Or, maybe Mayfield's schtick doesn't play well with grown men. He's a frat boy who isn't in college anymore.
You really will take delight if a perennial loser team continues to fail?
Yes, because Odell Beckham plays for them, and some people are very, very enthusiastic about hating him.
Seriously
Why are you still here? I seem to remember you being conspicuously absent after your dogshit franchise canned their GM in favor of their googly-eyed head coach. Why don't you run along and go find yourself a Jets message board to share your useless opinions with?
Should I assume that that actually is Danny Kanell, or at least a close family member? Hide your wives????

This, jesus people love to hear anonymous sources. If this wasn't bullshit you'd hear names of who confronted Baker. Everyone has their agenda.

I miss the SOB being in the league.
