New York Yankees
@Yankees
Earlier today, the Yankees transferred the rehab assignment for OF Giancarlo Stanton from Single-A Tampa to Triple-A
@swbrailriders
. Additionally, OF Aaron Judge will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A
@swbrailriders
tonight.
that would be me :)

pretty damn cool for anyone who's local down there.

Going to the game?
That's awesome. Even as a Met fan it would be cool to see players of their caliber in a minor league setting
Dunedin is the expert on this; he'll hook you up when he sees this, I'm sure.
Debbie downer....
Obviously it'll be nice to have G back, too. Hard to believe he's been out for 2 and a half months now - especially considering the initial prognosis'/timetable.
Hopefully he's done accumulating new injuries and will be back up with NYY early next week.
the AA lineup is pretty unexciting.
The SP rotation has some real arms in it though. Believe Whitlock is going tonight and Stephan tomorrow. Doesn't look like they've named a probable starter for Sunday.
Would be awesome if you got to see Deivi. He pitched on 6/11, so it's about the right amount of rest...

Pitch?
Debbie downer....
It’s the truth tho. The starting pitching sucks on this team.
That's not going to be good enough for a team with WS aspirations - and I expect pitching help to come within the next month or so - but it doesn't suck.
You want to see real shitty pitching, watch the Mariners or O's.
The WS window is open now, and while I don't think Cashman will want to burn through assets that would allow the window to remain open for a longer period of time, I do think he will be aggressive at the deadline and get pitching help here.
We don't want to sacrifice long-term potential, but we also don't want to just keep blowing through years where we have a roster this good to just sit and hope for the best or wait for next year. Next year could be a new story with different injuries, or who knows.
I don't see us emptying out the farm or going all out for someone like Scherzer - but I do think a tier or two below that, i.e.. Stroman, would definitely be something we'll check in on and pursue depending on the price.
If TOR wants to add a heavy NYY tax, we'll move on and explore other options.
I just don't see how we can realistically stand pat on the pitching right now. I feel like it'd be negligent and that there's a good chance we'd just be throwing away this season.
The injuries are making a lot of people crazy.
Look, if we can get a Stroman without paying a Yankees tax, I'm probably ok with giving up one young gun, but more than that is too much for me.
Montgo is coming off TJS - counting on him for anything of significance this year is batshit. Next year is much more realistic.
Paxton has an injury history and a barking knee. CC is a 5 inning pitcher. There's absolutely no guarantee that Severino will be himself when he gets back this year. He might just not be the same guy until next year and we have to be prepared for that.
There's a reason why we made an offer to Keuchel. Cashman knows we need pitching help.
I wouldn't suggest just emptying the farm for a pitcher right this minute, but I'll be stunned if Cashman stands pat and makes zero trades to bolster the rotation before the deadline. It would be extremely risky to do that.
Judge/Stanton are already on the way back. We can hang onto Maybin as a 4th/5th OFer. Then there's Hicks and Gardy. Figure Florial can work his way into the mix in a year+ or so. We'll still be adequately covered even if Gardner retires.
Think about October games and how apprehensive Boone may be to have Frazier out in the field... it's risky. We sat Andujar in a game against Boston for the same reason. I'm not sure we'll have the DH spot clear for him, either.
I'm in no rush to get rid of the guy, but if he's the main piece that gets us pitching help, I don't think I'd be against it.

Typical fan dumb. They react only what they last saw. The Yankees aren't winning right now so everything and everyone sucks now. You didn't hear one complaint about how the pitching sucked when they were winning.

People underrate our starting pitching. Sevy, Tanaka, and Maple are all top of the rotation guys on any team. Add Happ, CC, German, and Monty. We have a lot of quality depth. If Sevy can get that consistency, he could win a Cy Young. How many aces does a good rotation have in Yankeeland? 5?

This is sort of unfair - I don't think there's anything wrong with suggesting that the Yanks will need some pitching help to get to the promised land this year. There's plenty of logic behind that.
Of course, when people say the pitching "sucks" - that's hyperbole and just being reactionary.
Personally, if Severino was healthy now and was pitching like... Severino, I'd be less concerned and would probably be willing to take it right down to the deadline.
Cashman can still wait a bit. He doesn't need to make a deal now.
But, if for any reason Severino doesn't return to form this year - and that's not a totally unreasonable thing to expect - I just don't think the pitching is there to take out a team as good as Houston.
Assuming Paxton will be 100% come October is an iffy proposition.
German may not even be available anymore at that point.
That doesn't leave us much outside of Tanaka. I don't want to see Happ taking the hill in ALDS games. I'd be pretty uneasy about that.
Do what I'm doing and go to both! (If you can afford it.)

Disappointed to hear that there’s not much chance I’d be able to see a Judge play in London at the end of the month. I really hope his rehab goes as smooth as possible, he’s worth the fee alone. Now, knowing my luck, he’ll play the Saturday game against Boston and sit for the Sunday game I have tickets for haha

I can only make it down for the Sunday game unfortunately. Meanwhile, Stanton just hit a 3 run homer and is 1-2, Judge 0-2
arc I think you're being a bit flimsy doubting Tanaka so much. Maybe you haven't watched him as long as I have. But, he's a stud in the big moments, and that's what Yankee baseball is all about.

I don't think you're reading what I'm posting if you think I'm doubting Tanaka. This is the last line in my last post...
I do trust Tanaka. I'm not concerned about him at all. He's one of my 3-4 starters going into the postseason and I'm 100% comfortable with that. I've watched him pitch in past postseasons. I watched him last year in the Boston series.
I'd like to see him recapture his splitter, but he's fantastic in the postseason. He's not who I'm concerned about.
The problem is that he's probably the ONLY guy I have no major concerns with right now.
It's everyone else.
Severino - Is he going to be himself when he gets back? Is he definitely going to get back? How much can we realistically expect this year?
Paxton - Already had a IL stint for his knee. Looked like it was still bugging him against the Mets - he struggled and looked like he was pressing. His velo was a little down. How confident are we in him being 100% healthy in October?
German - Innings limit, on the IL now. Hasn't pitched nearly as well in his last few starts. Hitting a wall? Can we rely on him in October? With the innings limit and possibility that he may revert to something resembling more of a back-end starter, I don't know how anyone could pencil him in for the postseason or assume he'll give us heavy innings this fall.
CC - his knee is obviously bugging the crap out of him. It's going to be a problem all year. He hasn't pitched as well lately either.
Happ - HR king. He's giving up long balls in every single start - a lot of them are killer and coming at really awful times, too. I cannot trust Happ to be a guy getting the ball in a postseason series.
Montgomery - Throwing BP and coming off TJS. No idea when we're getting him back and pitchers are almost never right until the year after they come back from it.
Loaisaga - Can't stay healthy, no way we can rely on him for much of anything this year.
We need pitching help. I don't know how anyone could be comfortable just standing pat with all of that said.
Doesn't have to be a swing for the fences guy like Scherzer - but there's a trickle down effect when your starters can't give you innings. We're going to burn through guys like Ottavino and Kahnle this way and will desperately need them in October.
Too many short outings from starters - and again we have to go with an opener tomorrow (likely Green) - it's just not going to be enough if we want to beat teams like Houston or even Minnesota in a series.
