He does a good job with his evaluation and shows the disconnect he had with Odel which is prob one of the reasons that led to his trade...

For those who don't want to watch all 14 minutes, the main points were:
1. Eli is very good at reading defenses. He throws to the right guy and does not force the ball.
2. The exception is with Odell. Eli forced the ball to Odell in a way that he did not with other receivers. He is a different QB throwing to Odell than he was throwing to the rest of the team.
3. The OL was horrendous in pass protection. He shows one play where the Cowboys run a stunt through the center of the line and Halapio has his back turned and does not even see the guy. Over and over again, Eli would have pressure as soon as he had done his drop back.
4. Eli has undoubtedly lost a little arm strength. You can see that on deep outs. But his arm is still strong enough to throw the deep ball with no problem.
5. He is not immobile. He can move around enough to avoid the rush when he has blocking.
6. Odell last season did not like catching the ball over the middle and taking hits. Several plays where he did not make much of an effort to catch balls.
The bottom line appears to be that Eli felt compelled to get Odell the ball and this is often made him a worse QB.
--Overall, I thought his analysis was strong and maybe DG saw the same thing on tape and that contributed to his decision to trade Odell.
--One point that I think was overlooked is that Odell was consistently drawing double teams. So, yes, Eli was great hitting the other receivers when they were open but maybe they are not open as much without Odell on the field.
--The other thing I noticed is that Halapio is just not good in pass protection.
They disrupt everything. You love the insane talent. But with that some guys really aren't worth it at some point.
Gettelman fucked up. As do many when it comes to some top tier WRs. Due to the NFL’s obsession w offense teams get sucked into catering to guys w his talent level. But it’s all about him.
Not that Engram will ever be Kellen Winslow or a Gates is it a surprise the two best episodes of play coincide w Beckham being out ?
I think the guy just looked at tape from last year--after the extension. And Odell missed most of the season the previous year.
My own impression is that Odell was not as good last year after the injury. He still had the ability to go up and get the ball but he just did not get separation like he used to, and we did not see those plays where he took an eight yard slant to the house by making guys miss.
He was still good last year but not top three the way he was before the injury. Maybe he will get it back. But I think the slippage is also one of the reasons DG traded him NOW.

Was it because he is a great player maker or his high maintenance personality.

Maybe they didn’t want the rookie QB to deal with OBJ dynamics early in his career.

You could go back 12 years cross out Odell and insert Shockey into that sentence
