Super Bowl champion @hakeemnicks will be putting his talents on display in front of #XFL coaches and scouts at tomorrow's @XFLNY Summer Showcase. #XFL2020
After his injury, and in his last season with the Giants (before going to Indy) it seemed he just couldn’t catch anymore, which was so odd. I could understand the loss of explosiveness, but his hands seemed to fail him as well. Huge hands, He could have become a great possession guy, but he seemed a shell of himself. Was sad.
The Giants have had bad luck with some oftheir best receivers Â
not fully recovering from serious injuries. Steve Smith, Victor Cruz and Nicks had their careers cut short. The same was true for Mario Manningham, although he was a Niner when that happened. Every now and then I wonder whether that history had something to do with the Beckham trade.

Reuben Randle too, he was good before the knee problems

That's right - we never saw what Nicks would have been like in his prime.
I still think if not for that freak Tampa Bay game, Nicks and Cruz would still be Giants and we'd probably have drafted Zach Martin or Aaron Donald instead of Beckham.

Randle was an odd player to watch. Some games you felt like he was catching on and would be a good one and then others he would make stupid route running mistakes and be more or less invisible.
I was always of the belief that he was the far more talented wr and true number 1 when everyone was crazed over what Cruz was doing (which was incredible as well). But for a big drive in the fourth I wanted Nicks. His rookie year you could tell he was special. He was absolutely dominant at times.
Nicks was the best young Giants receiver I ever saw until Beckham. You could argue that mid-career Plax was better, and mid-late career Amani Toomer, were better. But I said on BBI, and still believe, that Nicks had Hall-of-Fame potential. Then the leg problems and his career completely went up in smoke.
I don't think I was wrong about his ceiling, but it shows how fragile NFL careers can be.
Nicks...I always recall a performance vs AZ in there somewhere Â
reminiscent of Plax @ GB in 07-08. It was one of the only other times I remember the O playcalling that heavily to one guy, even w/ a solid secondary w/ PP and crew. HN just dominated and caught any ball that came in his direction. I actually always wondered why that type of thing wasn't more common (esp vs lesser secondaries and DBs, where GB & AZ were strong on the back end those years)
Loved the catch of the Hail Mary against the Packers. Â
He was tracking the ball through the air and practically caught the ball in stride.
His last real chance for a comeback was with the wrong team: the Colts. Flacco looked for TY Hilton as much as Manning looked for OBJ. Veteran Reggie Wayne was 2nd WR and TE Coby Fleener caught 61 and 54 balls. Nicks got few balls thrown to him, so everytime one came his way it was like a giant spotlight went on while everyone looked for Nicks to do something special.
Bradshaw was on that team and he became a fan favorite as with the Giants, averaging 4.7 yards a carry. Also as on the Giants, his feet did him in.

It was the play at around 10:40 of this video that changed everything for him. I remember wincing at the time. We breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that he was week to week. But the weeks dragged on and when he returned he was never the same Nicks vs Tampa in 2012 - ( New Window )

Ike Hilliard was always getting dinged up too
