Looks like it's mostly a salary dump. I have a hard time believing the Yankees were the only team willing to eat the rest of his contract. But I guess that must have been the case.

So I am trying to do the math on this incredible acquisition of Edwin Encarnacion by the #Yankees and GM Brian Cashman. So if Encarnacion and Voit share 1B/DH then Judge Stanton play the corners, Hicks in CF, Gardner 4th OF....then Frazier gets Bumgarner or Stroman?
I don't know why but I think Stroman makes the most sense for the Yank

Yankees arent dumb. They know they need pitching. Knew it long ago, like everyone else. Series of moves coming, just like every summer. The picture will become clearer at some point. Right now, absolutely its fuzzy.
RE: I don't know why but I think Stroman makes the most sense for the Yank
s. He's the youngest 'stud' out there. Plus he's a NYer who'd love to be a Yankee.
I hate to give up Frazier for anything. But, Stroman wouldn't hurt as much as a (potentially) washed up ace.
Stroman for Fraizer would make me barf. Sell me on Stroman never seen him more than just another guy.
To me, Stroman is a bit like Big Maple. He's not a perennial top 5 Cy Young guy, but he's a top 2 of any rotation guy. We already have 3 top 2 guys on our team (Sevy, Maple, and Tanaka). Adding Stroman would make the top of the rotation DEEP.
He's a career 3.6 FIP 3.8 ERA 111 ERA+ and he's ascending still. And he's pitched in the AL East his whole career, so not as much projecting needed.
But never would I have thought Stroman could be a perennial cy young finalist regardless of his FIP.
Idk guess I'm just annoyed that they'd have to give up young talent when they could of just signed Kuechel a couple of weeks ago.

Just to put some perspective on this trade- the Yanks got Then (and another A ball pitcher, JP Sears) from the Mariners for Nick Rumbelow- who just got DFAd the other day.
Since Then is now going back to the Mariners, the trade becomes EE and JP Sears for Rumbelow.

They targeted Keuchel. He wanted the money, not the Yankees. We don't need that from a (at best) #3 starter. Stroman is likely a much better pitcher than Keuchel at this stage of their respective careers.
play? Does that mean that Frazier and somebody else going for a big time pitcher?
Hes strictly a DH at this point.
The strangest part of it, to me, is that AT A MINIMUM (as in least severe case) it tells me Frazier is being traded AND they have every intention of using Stanton as the everyday LF.
EE has played 45 of his 63 games at 1B this season,so not strictly a DH
Looks like Seattle is sending 8.4mm to the Yanks...

If teams would be wise and avoid dealing with Cashman, the league outside of the Bronx would be a lot better off. But he somehow get these deals done, like the series of deals with the Cubs that got us Torres for a Chappy rental and then we go back out in FA and bring Chappy back. Cash is the GOAT of having his cake and eating too.

I get all that rather Yankees hold on to Frazier. I'd hate to trade him to the Jay's and see him turn into something and beat us up 18 some or so times a year. If it were any other team might learn to live with it but Jay's would be tough.

have come here and floundered? Who knows now if Paxton is still hurt or a head case as well?
Stroman is probably a little less regarded then Gray while he was in Oakland. He does have the AL East experience, perhaps someone can look into his records against the Sox and Rays.
The point is, we have no idea how he will perform in NY. I wouldnt be comfortable trading Frazier for him, now Voit I wouldnt mind.
because they suck ass and want to rebuild.
Love when the cost is some guy I've never heard of.
If he can swing Stanton into something nice that would be Jedi mind trick level Cashman 3-d chess...

or maybe it frees them to send Bird/Voit for a starter somewhere?
Possibly free someone for pitching help. Doubt Bird or Voit. No one is trading much for Bird, and Voit has been a big piece in the Yankees lineup.
Seriously moving voit doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

I fully expect both clint and estrada to be used as trade chips for a top starter now

Here is what the New York Yankees lineup should look like soon.
LeMahieu 5
Judge 9
Stanton 7
Sanchez 2
Voit 3
Hicks 8
Encarnacin DH
Gregorius 6
Torres 4
👀 👀 👀
Gleyber Torres, who may well be their No. 9 hitter, came into today hitting .285/.338/.515 with 14 home runs.
Almost surprising that Frazier hasnt been pulled from this game yet. (Exaggerating, yes)

And he knows how to pitch in the AL East.
Honestly I am not thrilled with this predominantly RH hit-or-miss types.

Will not preclude the Yanks from getting a pitcher....
