I know it’s Pebble Beach and you’re not supposed to criticize Pebble Beach but there should never be 31 players under par at any point in the last round of a US open
To add to that point, it almost seemed like Bethpage Black Â

Pebble Beach doesn’t set the course up for the Open, the USGA does, so you can criticize them. It’s a somewhat predictable response to what happened at Shinnecock last year.

It’s surprising because pebble beach is normally set up as a classic, hard US Open course. That’s why the -15 Tiger put up there in 2000 was so astounding. Nobody should even be close to that but here we are with at least 4 players near or at double digits under par

Don't forget that there is a huge degree of familiarity at Pebble as they play there every year. Since the Open rotates, not all the courses are played by everyone every year. When you know where to place the ball on every hole it helps immensely. Yes the greens are not the usual awful rock hard surfaces, thank God.
The weather has been course friendly, no wind and no sun to dry out the greens and the cool moist conditions have helped keep the course soft.

Blame the whiny players. The USGA was under intense scrutiny from the players to make the US Open more playable. They had a list of names threatening to boycott future US Opens because of the playing conditions. Apparently they bowed to the pressure.

Winged Foot in Mamaroneck next year certainly won't be as forgiving
my wife. Azinger, I guess had just commented on how Woodland had mentally hung together, and he really did. He hit some drives to the right, but he never showed signs of the yips in his short game. I said just play 18 safe, get there in 3. That first putt, I said just get it close to be sure you make 6. And he fuckin' holes it. God bless. The heart of a champion. And goddammit, Jordan, get your shit together.
Maybe too much money and notoriety too soon. These guys sometimes have to make appearances all the time. i think he's a great kid and a great talent, I hope he can get it back together.
i think he's trying to change his swing so he can it longer which is leading to other issues, similar to what David Duval did back in the day. Hope he gets it figured out.
RE: RE: I have no clue what is wrong with Spieth Â
to increase distance. He needs to just make himself extremely accurate. He is otherwise plenty long to win. Nick Faldo won 6 majors and was not long at all. IMHO he just needs to concentrate on accuracy off the tee and get back to his tremendous short game which has been off.
Re: Course set up. Good shots should be rewarded and shots out of the fairway penalized. That they did.
I am sick of seeing players land the ball ten feet from the pin and have it roll off the green because of a tricky set-up.
Re: Joe Buck. I know we all hate him, but he was excellent as a golf commentator.
I mentioned to my father that FOX finally got golf right Â
their earlier US Open broadcasts were a disaster to me. This one they got right.
FOX was fine. They did away with the stupid ball in the hole sounds, which was a major accomplishment. They had good people on the course and Zinger is a capable analyst. I was meh on Joe as golf is not his thing. (I do like him in football and baseball)
And yes I thought the USGA got it right. Aside from Woodland at -13 and Koepka at -10, the field was bunched at -7 and under. That is a good and fair result. I hope they take heed. Woodland was the best golfer throughout and Koepka with 4 rounds in the 60s was second best. They found the champion golfer and it showed without tricks.

Best golfer (at least in this 2-3 year stretch) since Tiger in his prime

Was thinking the same thing.
Not a good chip. Wow. But still in it
He definitely earned it.
He definitely earned it.
Yeah, after the way he had to scramble yesterday I thought he would fold under pressure today. But he’s stayed rock solid all day.

Koepka is still a force in every major he tees it up...
Spieth has struggled trying to find more length off the tee. He’s getting outdriven by all the top golfers and it’s affecting his mental game.

Thanks. I hope he can figure it all out. He is still very young.

They also had less commercials, we all can appreciate that!
The entire last hour+, was commercial free.
Congrats to Woodland, he deserved it.

yeah, I remember the Rolex insignia on the bottom of the screen reminding us that there were no commercials :)
