I don't get the love for Hicks always betting high in the order. His best season he hit .266. IMO,. You can't compare him to Torres. When the Yankees get all their players back, Hicks might be the worst hitter in the lineup.
RE: 2 games ago in Boston Chirinos was nearly unhittable Â
When asked about being only a few million short of getting Keuchel and why he simply just didn't "push a bit higher" to sign him.
Many fans have been calling up over the last few weeks wondering why the Yankees seemingly (and frustratingly) stopped just short of signing him based on the final deal he signed with the Braves.
Cashman said that he had no idea what other clubs were bidding, and that the agent did not inform him of how close/far he was. The agent never told Brian - hey if you come up to this amount we will sign with you.
Kay followed up by asking if he knew, would he have gone higher to match the Braves. Cashman said that he didn't want to "play that game," because it never happened.

A remarkable article. One suspects that the drag coefficient could be lowered even more (producing even more homers) if the pitcher were to receive a new ball after every pitch instead of only when the pitched ball hits the ground on its way to the catcher.

I ate sushi for lunch and i'm taking all the credit for that inning. I can't promise anything after the first though, since I had rice crispies for a snack.

secret conversation between Cashman and Stanton a month ago Â
The only way I can think of barring another injury is to carry one less reliever and it's possible they do just that. At least early on in Stanton and Judge's return.
I guess they'd always have Frazier to call back up if they lost Maybin and one of those guys tweeks something again, but I think they clearly like what Maybin brings.
It's going to be interesting to see what they do but I hope they find a way to keep him.

There has to be a trade coming. Way too many good players to find homes for.

pisses me off with today's pitchers. Tanaka was up 1-2 and threw two awful pitches to Meadows to get to 3-2 then walks him. Why do you waste pitches when you are limited to 100.

Lol, you little troll. How'd it go in the ALDS last year with all those home runs?
I knew that would get you LOL

You do realize there have been plenty of great players who had a bad go of it their first time in the playoffs right? Hell even their first couple of playoff years.
I'm sure whatever team the Yanks are facing in the playoffs would much rather not see Stanton in the lineup that have to face him, but hey to each their own. I like the player.

I like the player, too. And of course I know big time players have wilted under the playoff lights. But the fact is he was flat out awful in that series. I doubt if they earn the chance he is awful next time.
RE: RE: RE: Daniel Jones is at the game and got booed Â
I don’t blame them under the circumstances.
It’s not so much booing Jones himself, it’s booing that asshole Gettleman.
they showed the kid on the big screen and they booed him...not cool. Being picked 6th is not his fault.
I’ll gladly rescind if he’s better than Darnold, Allen, The Bama 2020 WB and Oregon QB (notice I didn’t mention Hankins, I’m assuming he will be better than Hank) as opposed to Alex Smith.

Yup. That extra day off works wonders for him. I wonder if it's more to do with how he first started in Japan and he's used to that or if his arm just feels better with the extra day?
Probably a bit of both but I'd bet mentally he just feels more comfortable with the extra day.
Aside from him, Tanaka's the only Yankee pitcher to throw any since 2015. That year, he had one as well as CC and Pineda. This was the seventh CG of his career.
about why the rush to get Hicks signed to a 7 year deal?
There is no problem with the Hicks deal. He is likely pressing since he was out for a while and trying to make up for the contract. Very common for players to try and prove the contract.
He will snap out of it. Once all the big boys are back the pressure will be off.
Of course the Twins, who have been bludgeoning everyone, get shut out by Rick fucking Porcello. Why wouldn't they?
Another gem from Zack Wheeler tonight. 5 innings, 10 hits, 5 runs (4 earned). ERA sitting at a sparkling 4.96. Do not want to hear his name in trade rumors again.
Edwin Jackson is still, somehow, in MLB. Put up this line tonight: two-thirds of an inning, 6 hits, 2 walks, 7 runs, 3 homers. On the year, in 7 games he's 1-5, 12.34, 46 hits, 12 walks, 12 homers allowed in 25.1 IP.

Enigma is a good description for Tanaka. When his splitter and slider are on like last night, he’s almost unhittable. When he doesn’t have them, his fastball isn’t good enough to get him through.
Regardless, that was a big time start last night. He’s no doubt our most trusted big game pitcher.
Still been a very good pitcher for the Rays. WHIP at 0.93 and 2.88 ERA for the season.
Still been a very good pitcher for the Rays. WHIP at 0.93 and 2.88 ERA for the season.
5.1 innings of 4 ER ball against the Twins is a forgiveable sin right now. They are absolutely punishing the ball, top to bottom in their lineup.

Is it just me or does anyone else think sometimes Gary makes up his mind he's swinging at a pitch before its thrown and hacks away no matter what?
I can see being a guess hitter early in a count but with two strikes he's got to be more disciplined.

Yeah that's my take too and I'm not knocking him. I was just wondering if it was just my take on him.
There's not another catcher in the game I'd rather have but he does have me scratching my head sometimes with his approach at the plate.

He clearly stated he feels more in the game when he is in the field. He may hit better.

What a train wreck of a post.
Ron Guidry

..but I hop Masa gets the complete game. Who got the last one for the Yanks?
Ron Guidry
Lol.. remember his first year? 8 and two thirds Giudry. He couldn't get that last out several times
Good job by El Gary too.

Lol, you little troll. How'd it go in the ALDS last year with all those home runs?
I knew that would get you LOL

Let's play "I Am An Idiot!" What player with a career .994 OPS went 1 for 12 in his only postseason ABs and therefore sucks according to you?
My opinion is, as always, you're a goddamned moron.
I believe it was also Masahiro... last July against Tampa.
What a game for him. Fantastic. Love me some Masa.
Pretty well pitched game. Best I've seen since maybe his playoff games two years ago.
Tanaka had a complete game shutout last year, so probably him

Stop embarrassing yourself, dipshit. Where did I say he sucks? It must suck not to be able to comprehend the written word.
But Tanaka's was more recent.

There you go - more intelligence on display.
Good job by El Gary too.
Yup. That extra day off works wonders for him. I wonder if it's more to do with how he first started in Japan and he's used to that or if his arm just feels better with the extra day?
Probably a bit of both but I'd bet mentally he just feels more comfortable with the extra day.
There is no problem with the Hicks deal. He is likely pressing since he was out for a while and trying to make up for the contract. Very common for players to try and prove the contract.
He will snap out of it. Once all the big boys are back the pressure will be off.
about damn time
To suckass Rick Porcello of all people, no less
six of one, half a dozen of another. Yes bury the Sox, but don't want the Twins with home field advantage in the playoffs, either.

Because he’s worth that amount over 4/5 years when healthy. They got him at a severe discount, not much more to it than that.

about why the rush to get Hicks signed to a 7 year deal?

Also think that if they decide to move him for whatever reason that’s a deal
That is very tradable. Not a bad move at all
Because he's a top 5 all around CF?
And Tanaka is the man. He's my guy. Never doubt the Naka.

What the fuck is this garbage? Go pollute some other thread.

Don't gladly rescind. Delete your account. Do us all a favor.
I wish he would 'bottle' that, and do that against some other teams, he is a bit of an enigma to me?
It would be nice to see the starting rotation step up too!
Two good starts in a row, keep it going.
you are better than that!

Why don't the two of you tough guys start your own bitch slap thread someplace else.

Enigma is a good description for Tanaka. When his splitter and slider are on like last night, he’s almost unhittable. When he doesn’t have them, his fastball isn’t good enough to get him through.
Regardless, that was a big time start last night. He’s no doubt our most trusted big game pitcher.
