NFT: Mets at Braves Game 1 Wheeler

ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 7:29 pm
Mets Lineup

Jeff McNeil – LF
Pete Alonso – 1B
Robinson Cano – 2B
Michael Conforto – RF
Wilson Ramos – C
Todd Frazier – 3B
Amed Rosario – SS
Juan Lagares – CF
Zack Wheeler – RHP

Braves Lineup

Ronald Acuna – CF
Dansby Swanson – SS
Freddie Freeman – 1B
Josh Donaldson – 3B
Nick Markakis – RF
Austin Riley – LF
Brian McCann – C
Ozzie Albies – 2B
Mike Soroka – RHP

Things seem to be falling apart a bit. Nimmo seeing a specialist. Syndergaard on the IL. Vargas out yesterday with a leg cramp. Three more losses and we probably could have won every game. Familia might be the most damaging move of the entire offseason in terms of it contributing to actually losses. Probably the final stretch to get above .500 by the all star break/deadline. LGM!

I was hoping to see a

Soroka vs deGrom pitchers duel.

Keuchel makes his season debut on Friday vs the Nationals.
For all the talk of Rosario improving
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 7:55 pm : link
His wRC+ is actually LESS this year and he's been good for a whopping 0.0 fWAR this year. Awesome.
I'd consider moving McNeil to CF
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 7:56 pm : link
or SS. Im betting he's passable at both. Get Dom in the lineup every day.
Pete!!
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 8:04 pm : link
Nice!
Ramos has to be the worst defensive

I think Rosario would be the more likely option to move to CF. I haven't been following the Mets minors much this season how is Gimenez doing?

Ive never been a big Gimenez fan. REALLY wished we had traded him to Seattle over Kelenic and he was MUCH more highly rated at the time. Seattle likely would have gone for it and I was a big advocate for it at that time.

Anyways, to your question, he's sucked. lol. 92 wRC+ in AA isn't good but we'll see if he has a better second half. I just don't get moving a bad bat into CF. If your going to do that just go with Lagares/Gomez. At least they can play defensively. Conforto is passable in CF and McNeil is apparently athletic enough to play anywhere.... So I could see moving either of them there to get Dom in a corner. All of it's moot if Nimmo ever gets healthy but who the heck knows... Mets are cursed.

Gimenez was a higher rated prospect but I like Kelenic more and if I was Seattle I would much rather have Kelenic even if he is farther away. I think Seattle felt the same way but that's just my opinion.

As for Gimenez he is still so young for his level. I know that he spent time in AA last season but some players take longer to adjust than others.

Fans have become less patient with young prospects because they see guys like Soto, Acuna Jr., Gleyber Torres, Tatis Jr. etc come up and play well in the majors at such an early age so they expect similar results for others. Those players are an exception to the rule.
Yes and Alonso, Conforto, Nimmo..
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 8:38 pm : link
;)
If the Mets ever got Nimmo and Lowrie back...
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 8:41 pm : link
I'd go

1.) Nimmo CF
2.) McNeil 3B
3.) Alonso 1B
4.) Conforto RF
5.) Dom LF
6.) Ramos C
7.) Cano 2B
8.) Lowrie SS

Best possible lineup and we need it.
lol...
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 8:45 pm : link
Ramos again...
Ramos can't catch
ChaChing : 6/17/2019 8:49 pm : link
I don't mean 'play the position' as much as just catch 'the ball'

Those players were 22, 23, and 24 when they made their MLB debuts which is more rational expectations.

Wheeler being Wheeler
Vanzetti : 6/17/2019 8:55 pm : link
Walking the leadoff hitter, falling behind Freeman 2-0.

Guy still pitches like a rookie even though he is 29.

I know you were, I was just pointing out that at their ages you expect a player to perform at their level but it's unfair to expect a 20 year old Gimenez to light up AA.
Just looking @ Mets schedule...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/17/2019 8:56 pm : link
3 in Atlanta, 4 @ Wrigley, & then 4 in Philly. This is a big road trip for them.

Yeah and Ramos can't catch a freaking ball moving runners over... Two runs are scored off a weak hit flair job that was pure luck... Its a combination of a lot of things but the Mets sure aren't helping out their SP this year AT ALL.
I'm sure you guys hate the Braves as much as ever
Jay on the Island : 6/17/2019 8:58 pm : link
but this is such a fun team to root for. It's going to be fun watching Acuna Jr., Soroka, Riley, Albies, Fried, and Swanson growing together.
Offense from Cano!

Philly is not the team I thought they were. I wonder if Nola is injured because he has not been very good this season.
Nice swing on 3-0

Wilson. LOL.
The Braves need more runs

Lol, I know you guys have been complaining about the Mets pen but you obviously haven't watched Atlanta's. We have Blevins and Swarzak. I can't complain about Swarzak he has actually been excellent since coming over. The Braves pen has resorted to converting four SP's to relievers, two are in AAA.
More grounds crew related circus
ChaChing : 6/17/2019 9:09 pm : link
tarp is half out, but field not covered

oh and a fan on the field apparently, why not, well timed
We also have a manager
Jay on the Island : 6/17/2019 9:12 pm : link
who openly admitted last year that he doesn't usually consider the batters handedness when picking which reliever to send in the game. Blevins was signed to be a LOOGY but he has actually faced more righties this season and the results are what you would expect.

We did the exact same thing with Avilan. Luckily, he's been injured and away from Mickey.
Ok Ramos, we give you that one
ChaChing : 6/17/2019 9:23 pm : link
nice snap throw to get the runner at 1st
I swear Familia might be the biggest bust FA
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 9:49 pm : link
in Mets history. He is a pure nightmare.
Familia

Well there goes our pen to blow it completely
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 9:54 pm : link
out of reach... deGrom needs to give us 8 tomorrow.
Ramos
ChaChing : 6/17/2019 9:55 pm : link
more not catching, tho it didn't bite them

The Albies hit did tho. And more fantastic BP
Is there any reason
ryanmkeane : 6/17/2019 9:56 pm : link
why Familia is still on the team or keeps being sent out there? I mean honestly - what is the reason? A reporter should ask after the game why he keeps sending him out there. He’s a single A pitcher at this point
Mickey pushing all the right buttons as usual
Eric on Li : 6/17/2019 9:56 pm : link
at what point when does the guy whose strength was supposed to be developing pitchers and managing a pitching staff get held accountable? Literally every pitcher he's been given has gotten worse under him, with the exception of JDG's HOF year last year.

I don't understand what they're waiting for. It's time to make a change. Actually that time was weeks ago.
Gagnon must suck Mickey's dick
Vanzetti : 6/17/2019 9:57 pm : link
Brody's too. How he is even on the team is beyond me. You are better off with Familia, who at least might induce a GIDP. If you don't have anybody better than Gags just leave Jeurys in. True, he sucks. But Gagnon is just a career minor laeguer.
looking forward to watching Blevins dominate us in the 8th
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 9:58 pm : link
and Swarzak to slam the door in the ninth... lol.
Agreed Eric
ChaChing : 6/17/2019 9:58 pm : link
Might just be one of those "better as a coordinator than HC" type thing too
Im sure glad Wilson is getting
ZGiants98 : 6/17/2019 9:59 pm : link
as much work as possible in in the minors while Gagnon keeps getting run out there....

There is no such thing as a LOOGY according to Mickey. Please refrain from using that term.

The sooner BVW cans him, the sooner he's the one in the crosshairs. And if the sooner he gets criticized for not getting the wilpons to buck up for Girardi or one of the other proven managers out there. Mickey is operation human shield right now.
