They’re not booing, they’re chanting, “Dave Gettleman, what did you doooooo?”
OK, they were booing. Fans at Yankee Stadium booed the crown jewel of G-man’s 2019 G-men draft class on Monday night, according to multiple print and social-media accounts.
There’s no video (yet) of Jones being shown on the video board at Yankee Stadium, but he apparently was, and he apparently was booed.
It’s not a surprise, given that Jones is the embodiment of the controversial decision to take a quarterback at No. 6 when Jones could have been taken at No. 17. Also, the fans still love Eli Manning — as evidenced by the hostile reaction when the team tried to bench him two years ago.
He's still pushing the false narrative that Jones would have been there at 17. Link - ( New Window )
noticed over the years that there is a sizable Yankees-Cowboys fan base... and they tend to be super annoying.
Sadly, this is true. I have a friend who’s a die hard Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, and Cowboys fan. Every August I tell him to go screw himself until February.

You're being too kind. Cowboys fans are much worse than that.
When they're playing well. When the Cowboys are losing they all disappear. I know every fan base has fair weather fans but no other fan base comes close to the Dallas fans.
but it's definitely a new age/social media driven thing to boo a kid for doing absolutely nothing other than being drafted in a particular spot that some idiots don't like.
You can make an argument that Kyler Murray and Clelin Ferrell were both much greater reaches than was Jones, but since that's not what the mob says then I guess let's just all bitch and moan.
The good news is Jones seems like a tough kid who can handle it and who has been impressing in any and all of the ways he can since getting here.
It's not a millenial thing

I think it's an intelligence thing. They're fans who don't have the emotional intelligence to distinguish their displeasure with the pick from their (lack of) displeasure with the person, and they lash out at the wrong element.
draft nicks who thought he was a bad pick. A lot of that has been disputed here and by other sources. But the boo birds are guys are who are not that involved like we are here, and not up to date. Sure it just rolled off his back. he knows he is turning it all around after his performance at the OTAs. Hang in there DJ we love what we have seen read and heard here.
like a minority at the stadium. Plenty of Cowboys/Yanks fans, Jets fans, and maybe a few that wanted Eli to die an honorable death on the field.
This is what makes the NY sports landscape so interesting. There are at least 2 major teams in all the sports and allegiances don't run strictly on party lines. This is why other cities fans/sports media is so much more forgiving. One team one fight mentality.
As a Knicks fan this isn't like the KP situation at all either. I actually like the pick at the time because I thought he had all world potential and in the NBA its better to swing for the fences than pick some role player at 4. But Knicks fans are seriously scarred by years of inept management and the infamous Frederick Weis, while stupid, at least it was understandable.
development. North easterners are assholes and I for one I kinda like it. We hold our teams to higher standards and let our disdain be known. Which in turn puts pressure on owndership to win.
Now this behavior is just much more highly publicized and we are able to talk about it on social media platforms with way more people than at the watercooler at work.
Most fanbases are comprised of a majority of morons. Nothing new here. It sucks it happened, and I never would have booed him, but it's a baseball game - you've got people of all different sports backgrounds there. A lot of people who are drunk and stupid. It happens.
Jones can handle it, and I doubt it'll phase him at all.
still haven't found a Cowboys board to frequent, I see Â
Fans like that don’t deserve a kid like DJ. This kid has talent as he has showed in early practices and the goods to have the talking heads questioning there evaluations. But for a bunch or morons to boo this kid is un-fucking real. It disgusts me to no ends. I hope Gettleman/ Mara make a statement to the press.
I would love to see the Headlines in the NY Post or Daily News..
TO ALL WHO BOO’d David Jones...... Fuck You..
Watched the nfl network, and the new england and boston network, espn. Anyone ever wonder why arod was a criminal and big papi a hero. Wonder why Jeter never won an mvp but Pedroia did, with a mediocre season, how porcello wins a cy young. How Andujar gets robbed from a rookie of the year. How Matsui got robbed the rookie of year because he was a vet from Japan which came out from espn right before the vote. Ichiro won it the previous year. Fan bases are stupid, they get their information from espn and the mlb, nfl, nhl, and nba network.
I grew up when their really no Yankee fans in NY except for Wall St Â
Type who kept tickets for out of town investors, and some denizens of the Bronx. Believe it or not growing up in Brooklyn I knew more Cardinal fans than a very rare Yankeebfan So I have never adjusted to Yankees as being a NY hometown team. So of course they booed DJ.

No Yankee fans in NY except Wall St. types? When was that, 1905?
Tho IMO Philly booing the 76ers in the playoffs with a 10pt lead this yr is about the worst. Sure it was during a comeback after being up 20-30, and a few recent similar comeback Ls. But w/ a lead in the playoffs, really?
And I agree with it completely, they were booing the decision to draft him at 6, which in this case, I do agree with those fans.
Quote:
And that’s the thing: This isn’t on Yankees fans. It’s not even on any frustrated Giants fans who may have happened to be there Monday night and just let their instincts take over. I am willing to bet if you polled every person who actually yelled “boo” — every one — they weren’t booing poor Daniel Jones, but rather their belief that the Giants should have taken someone else with the No. 6 pick in the draft.
Which presented these folks — in an era of social media when every human being everywhere is encouraged to express every opinion they have every minute they are breathing — with two choices.
They could have tried to shout, in unison, “WE HATE THAT DAVE GETTLEMAN DIDN’T PICK A DEFENSIVE PLAYER WITH THAT PICK BECAUSE WE REMAIN UNCONVINCED THAT YOU WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE LATER IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!!!!!”

Nothing personal, kid. Booing is easier.

Do you have a full percentage breakdown/chart of which fan allegiances the boos were coming from?
TIA.
Meh, IMO it's a dumb response by the crowd regardless Â
But now we interpret deeper meaning in a mob of booing fans? It was dumb fans being dumb about a player they know nothing about. And a huge stretch as a premise for an article to me
By the time he was writing his all caps 'analysis of the subtleties, intricacies and deeper meaning of a booing crowd' - he should have started over completely. "They didn't mean boo, what they meant was..." smh
The overreaction theater in this thread is hilarious Â
From the Giants. And boo loud. Giant fans won’t give Jones anymore than a clap or two since the guy hasn’t played one snap the team yet. So the hate for Giants (no matter who) by other fans is going to stronger than the love for Jones by Giants fans. At least at this point.
This sort of behaviour is not New York style. The kid hasn't even played a game yet, yet because of the negative response we're all ready to drive him out of town.
If people want to show their response they should show their displeasure by refusing to buy tickets.
Daniel Jones will be a good QB in the NFL, but with reactions like what he's been given it may be for another team.
I know I'll get shouted down by this reaction, but I don't care what others say. I used to be a season ticket holder, I can't afford them any more, my nephew has them now. As a family, we are ready to welcome Jones as the new QB.
Being Giants fans we have more class than the people who support the Eagles or Cowboys, so we shouldn't behave like them.

Probably were kids in 1978, when both teams won championships.

Millenials growing up on Twitter and Instagram, who hide behind their anonymity, easily throwing out cruel statements without repurcussion.
Evolution..
Now it's branching out into the mainstream. Our world is totally fucked.

Unlike in past decades, when booing was unheard of?
God knows I'm always down to mock millennials, but this is just silly.

Very true. Not just millenials. Should've said society as a whole.

The Venn Diagram of vile scum, NY area Cowboy fans, and ESPN watchers is a pretty neat circle.

Add in message board trolls as the third circle and you might be on to something.
No other fan base would boo, because it doesn't matter to them.
