NFT: Luxury vinyl plank

widmerseyebrow : 6/18/2019 11:05 pm
We're moving and I was wondering if anyone has experience with wood look LVP or LVT. It's a pretty trendy pick right now because it's relatively inexpensive, sturdy, and waterproof. I like the idea of having one type of flooring throughout the house. The wife doesn't want cold tile so this seems like the next best option. Hardwood is out for us because our little guy would destroy it and laminate seems to have fallen out of favor vs. LVP.

That said, it seems like there is at least one horror story for every major brand and product line out there. The vast majority seem really happy with their purchases, but there's always a few that claim easy scratching, chipping, and/or denting. I'm not planning on dragging a trunk on top of sandpaper across the floor, but I also don't want it looking beat up after a year of normal, no shoes use.

Anybody have any brand recommendations? Through all my research I've only really removed the big box/Home Depot/Lowe's/etc. brands from consideration.
Same situation.

Flooret LVP is what we are leaning towards.

I have them in strong consideration too, but I found this https://youtu.be/RQF72_vjqO8?t=271

But it seems like she's an exception for otherwise solid reviews.
I have a ton of samples and nothing yet.

Seems like as she mentioned it was a bad batch, haven't heard much else about it.

Supercore also gets very good reviews.
Check out Lowe’s

They now have a hardwood floor with the same backing as LVP if I remember correctly it’s about 3-3.50 per square foot
I installed Moduleo vinyl floors in my basement

Very nice product. No problems. If you're in Monmouth county, I used American Flooring in Keyport, NJ. Good people.

Flooret

I recently (January) self-installed Flooret's LVP in my basement, to replace flood-damaged carpet. I love the look. I like it better than laminate, more sturdy, more wood-like. It doesn't "feel" like wood though. Part of that might be the cold basement, but with bare feet, you certainly know it is not wood.

Looks greats, seems to be standing up to the kids playing down there just fine. I'd do it again, but I would never replace existing wood floors with it.

BTW, it is way harder to install than I was led to believe from watching videos.
Had it installed in almost my whole house (leaving basement for later)

Love it. Looks great; feels great to walk on; everybody who sees it goes, "Wow," and some ask for the exact brand, which I don't recall, but will post later. No regrets at all.

We put area rugs in various locations, but mainly just for decoration.

just want to share some wisdom I gained while finishing my basement - before you buy ANY floors, check BestLaminate.com , its amazing. The prices + coupons + Free shipping + No tax (depending on state) makes it well worth it.

I just did 1000 sq ft in my basement for the CorTech 5 inch 100% waterproof PVC flooring at like $4.5 a ft at my local floor place, ended up getting it for $3.30 ft because they decided to match BestLaminate.

You can thank me later :)

Is this a house you’ll be living in for a while?

if so I’d reconsider hardwood. My wife and I balked at houses that didn’t have good hardwood floors or had laminate which I can’t stand. You can refinish hardwood 3-5 times throughout its life so if your kid tears it up, it’s fixable. You can also change stains later.

The resale on hardwood is still king. I’ve got a 4 year old and she will bang it up a bit but it is what it is, I’ll just refinish when she’s older.

Good to hear. We are going to add it to our first floor. We have 2 rooms with hardwood and the cost to refinish plus add hardwood into the 4 other rooms was obscene. Plus we have 5 kids so a good chance it'll look horrendous in 5 years. So if this can last until the younger ones are old enough, then we can think about going back to Wood.

We are going to leave the hardwood in place and float the Flooret on top. What color did you use? We are settled on Arbor.

We considered bamboo because of its properties but were told it cracks in our climate (desert). Right now I'd only consider tile as an alternative because I actually like the feel of it and it was super resilient in my current home of 10 years.

We went with the Brenwick. The Arbor was a contender, but we felt it was too dark for our basement. Floating it above the current floor sounds like a good plan.
