Giants 2019 Draft Review (GBN Draft Report -- June 16th)...

M.S. : 6/19/2019 6:34 am
...written by Pigskin Paul Guillemette.

Overall a very positive review, especially regarding upgrade of defense. A lot of interesting comments and this one in particular caught my eye regarding Oshane Ximines:

"He may be the least known member of their Top 100 by the average fan, but his importance to the team could be termed as critical... Purely and simply, I believe this guy must give them double digit sacks right away."

Funny how that's almost the exact same thing that could be said about our second year Edge guy Lorenzo Carter! For the sake of our pass rush, at least one of these two guys will need to make some waves this season!

That is a little ridiculous

Double digit sacks right away? Doesn't BJ Hill hold the Giants rookie record of sacks in a season at 5.5? How many rookie dedenders have double digit sacks?
“I believe he MUST....”

So he’s hoping or praying for the giants sake that he has double digit sacks. Doesn’t sound like an endorsement of the player but rather a knock on how DG built this defensive front.
So if Carter and Golden have double digit sacks we wilk still suck

unless a rookie does that too? Don't see the logic there.
There are still people wondering why Snacks was traded?

What is/was so difficult to understand then or now?

He is an aging one dimensional player making a lot of money who most likely won’t age well and didn’t seem to do himself any favors in the locker room.

100%. And he apparently wants a new deal.

I put Markus Golden in the same bucket as Jon Halapio: I'll believe it when I see it. For now, both are question marks.
Strange that there is no reference to any of the off season

practices for the draft prospects. Seems like this could have been written the day after the draft.

Double digit sack comment is just silly.
I don't agree

The sacks need to be there but there are a lot more likely outcomes than OX getting them.

Carter in year 2 has insane athleticism. Golden is a double digit guy a season removed from a bad injury. Hill is a soph building on a solid rookie year. Martin can contribute.

So the sacks need to come, no doubt but I think its more likely it comes from all those guys above improving 10% than OX coming in and looking like the second coming of LT.
Interesting to learn more

about the Slaytons, especially Darius.

Didn't know (or forgot) about the impact of Auburn scheme. Also if coachability was a question mark, his dramatic improvement this spring may be cause for optimism.
Double-digit sacks right away from Ximines?

I want a pound of whatever it is that Pigskin Paul is smoking.

One, Golden has had a very productive season unlike Halapio. Two, that isn't the point. The point is that we have other guys that this doesn't rest solely on XImenez's shoulders.
