NFT: Bathtub/Shower Renovation Ideas

batman11 : 6/19/2019 11:45 am
We have two older bathrooms that need to be renovated. In one, I would like to take out the tub and replace it with a shower stall. Has anyone used Bath Fitter, or had any experience in installing one of these bath/shower replacement kits? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
If budget permits, don’t skimp with one of these inserts.

Spend the money and get tile installed. It’s more substantial, better looking and doesn’t appear/ feel cheap like an insert does. Kitchen and baths are a big deal on resale. Don’t go cheap.
Also, if there’s room in the proposed shower stall, have a bench seat installed. It’s great feature for the ladies when they want to shave their legs. Good luck.
Anyone who covers a moldy wet....

....shower or tub enclosure is a complete asshole...Bath fitter should be ashamed of themselves..... from what I have seen from my customers estimates, they are not a bargain either.... gut the shower or tub enclosure ... fix any rot etc, change the plumbing valves and finish off with a fiberglass, tile or stone surround..... good luck with the project,

That's what I'm going through right now. Building a house and we are tiling our master for sure. My daughters bathroom will be tub+tile but the downstairs full bath was either going to be a standing shower insert or all tile. I'm going to just pay the extra to make it all tile, just so much better looking and if something breaks you can fix it yourself (or have a professional do it without having to tae out the entire stall.
I believe bathfitters only work on cast iron tubs

i could be wrong though. I heard that for someone else and that their business is 90% tradition remodel, but all the referrals come from people thinking there is a cheaper cover up method. That's just second hand knowledge, you (or someone else) can correct me if I'm wrong.

I was surprised to see how much they wanted. One of my coworkers asked me to look over an estimate that he got from BF - which IMO, even for the expensive NYC suburbs would be enough for him to have a full demo of the bathroom with tiling and an enameled tub put in. When he declined, they basically came back with an offer to do the same work for 40% less.
Just make sure it's a shower that showers you with tiny footballs

Had mine done a few years ago, and was very pleased with the results. They ripped out the old cast iron tub and a nasty surround covering old nasty tile, right down to the studs. New tub, plumbing and a quality custom surround installed for a fraction of the cost of a traditional remodel. Two guys did it in one 12 hour day. Definitely worth looking into.
Thank you all very much

for the information and advice. It is much appreciated. We are in the very early stages of this project and are trying to weigh all of our options.
