NFT: NBA: Draft Day

Woj dropped this yesterday

Vanderbilt guard Darius Garland had his workout with the Knicks today, but New York remains locked on selecting Dukes RJ Barrett with the NBA Drafts third overall pick on Thursday, league sources tell ESPN.

So it looks like we already know the top 3.

1. Zion
2. Ja Morant
3. RJ Barrett

Does Frank get traded today for an additional second?

sounds like a doofus.
They're in the same boat. Zion has to have an outside shot
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/20/2019 9:11 pm : link
or else he's early blake griffin.

Barrett needs to be a better shooter or else he's another body on the pile of mediocre NBA SGs.
can't believe we picked Barrett.

I might be crazy but I think Barrett has a higher NBA ceiling than Zion. Zions college game revolved around beating up on a bunch of undersized or unskilled big men around the rim. He doesnt have any range shooting the ball. He doesnt have the build or athleticism to create like a Giannis, Lebron, or Kawhi.

Barrett on the other hand just seems like one of those guys who ends up being a better pro than college player.

Zion had a better percentage from 3 than Barrett did.
Both Zion
TommyWiseau : 6/20/2019 9:16 pm : link
And RJ will be fine. Thing I like about RJ is he may be the hardest worker in the entire draft. Kid is constantly working on his game
WillVAB it's not crazy that RJB could end up the better pro

But re: Zion, he has a ton more bball skill than people seem to appreciate, in spite of being raw. Those full court bounce passes are pure vision & passing ability, at F no less. There's NBA PGs who don't do that. A big who can handle on the break, drive, and has fantastic body control near the rim, as well as hand eye coordination for double clutches & to protect the ball. Not a great shooter, sure, but he serviceable (where Mitch took all of 2 shots outside the paint or something)

And he will be a terror on D, moreso than Mitch given his ridic athleticism. IMO that's his floor, and still includes a shot at DPOY down the road
Question re reported trades:
81_Great_Dane : 6/20/2019 9:21 pm : link
Lakers reportedly traded the #4 to New Orleans as part of the Davis trade, and then it was reported the Hawks traded for the that pick. Officially, the Lakers selected Hunter. So who, exactly, made that selection? Did the Hawks dictate the pick, etc.? Sounds a little risky to me. What if something happens and the trade falls through? I remember Len Bias dying basically the day after the draft. Trades can always fall through. Shit happens.

Reports that the Lakers want to rework the Davis deal because they didn't realize they hadn't left cap room for a max are hilarious. As a Knicks fan, it's nice to see the Lakers the LAKERS!!! bumbling like this. #schadenfreude

I watch a decent amount of college ball and teams let Zion shoot 3s. Similar to how teams let Giannis shoot 3s. That doesnt make Zion a decent shooter because he had decent stats. His game was bullying people down low. That wont fly at the next level he has to develop a shot outside of 5 feet from the rim if hes going to be anywhere near the hype people are making him out to be.

Yea but he just doesnt have the body or style to take people off the dribble like a Lebron, Durant, Giannis, etc. He just seems like more of a classic Karl Malone type player without range.

Im not a basketball expert and I may be completely wrong. But to my eyes Zion looks more like a classic post up big man who cleans up on the glass and doesnt do much more than that assuming his shot doesnt improve from college.

Bilas has a hard on for this guy. I've heard Bilas on multiple platforms today & he loves this kid.

I've seen my fair share of Hokies (Greg's favorite team) games. He's pretty good, though I'm not in love with him like Bilas.

From what I've seen, he has plenty more handle and face up game from 3

than that. Of course he's not LeBron - not a pt-fwd, but he can start the play w/ the ball on occasion as well as make the basic required passes to the wing & post, so IMO it's not the weakness your describing. But he's still raw so it's going to take some adjusting, you're right about that. I see his O being functional as is even if he didn't develop much. And again, to me given the love for Mitch's all D skillset, he doesn't even have to in order to be a useful player b/c I think he'll be better than Mitch at Mitch things (like perimeter blocks for example)

We'll see in time. I love RJB, but certainly would have preferred landing at #1 & Zion

Haven't seen him, but from the description I'm picturing Roberson in OKC or Thabo Sefolosha former OKC. I think TS was a serviceable shooter from 3. And that might sum up their all their offensive skills collectively

I agree, but its hard to find a present day NBA comparison. Maybe Drummond?

I think people expect him to be the next elite guy and I just dont see it unless he does some serious work to his game.

Notes that this frees up even more cap space for Brooklyn. Move was intended to make it even easier to get 2 max FAs.

One would hope, with the Nets clearly all-in on this strategy, that they have some handshakes and head nods from folks at this point.

Nets already had enough cap room for two 30% max players (I.e. Tobias and Kyrie). Move now gets them very closer to one 30% max and one 35% max (KD and Kyrie) without trading Joe Harris or Spencer Dinwiddie.

Just have to dump Shabazz Napier (1.9M).
