Aaron Boone said the Yankees got pretty good news on Jordan Montgomerys MRI, which showed inflammation. He wont throw for two weeks. Boone said well see if Montgomery is still able to pitch this year.

RE: some guy I've never heard of is starting for Houston
Can't watch two pitches go right down broadway and then go fishing for the stuff in the dirt. Bad AB for Big G there.
I'm not part of the idiotic anti-Stanton crowd, but he aint helping his cause with awful AB's like that. Drives me crazy when guys don't swing at FB's in the dead center of the plate.

Same here and I'm gonna chalk that AB up to rust and getting comfortable again but it really was an awful AB. He can't have many more like that or he's really going to start hearing it.
We had a couple of these down the Shore earlier. It got real dark, poured like crazy for 5-10 minutes and then clear skies. Happened three times by me today, late afternoon/early evening.
He had a look on his face like what the hell just happened? He was going great, in control and feeling good and then bam, just like that he's hitting the showers.
He had a look on his face like what the hell just happened? He was going great, in control and feeling good and then bam, just like that he's hitting the showers.
Hah, yep. He was cruising and then about 10 pitches later, he was in a 4 run hole and got pulled against a lefty.
They're killing Houston. It must be discouraging for a pitcher to have to face this Yankee lineup. (Watched first part in a club drinking beer; rain delayed the game and provoked me to stop and go home. Timing as perfect since the game is resumed just as I sat down to tune it in!)
Alvarez is going to be a fucking problem. That guy has serious power. The Stros literally just called him up like 10 days ago and he already has 6 HR's I think.

Yeah, until they find out his weakness. Word gets around quickly.
RE: RE: RE: RE: That Astros douche behind home has now sat in 3 different rows
ruining everything with home runs, he could have hit a single.
If not for all the HR's, I'd say this has been a pretty good performance for the Yanks. Hopefully we'll be able to phase those out and get back to singles as soon as possible... but this is alright for now.
one a more serious note, this has been a great year to watch so far.
We are getting to see some previously unknown to us professionals.
As Paul said, EE has a great eye and a great compact swing. DJ is a revelation to see every day. Urshela showing us what good 3rd base play looks like. Voit has put in the work to be a better all around player. Sanchez putting in a year that keeps promise with the flashes we saw his first year plus better defense and pitch calling.
And the analytics department/Boone has managed the bullpen very well...putting Torre to shame and exceeding Girardi.
Lots of subtle improvements and professionalism to admire this year

I agree, this has been amazing. The analytics department got us Voit! Still impressed by that.
Maury Wills and Rod Carew were two guys who did that. By the end of the year they had ten more singles just off of dribblers no one could field plus errant throws
to have to use Chappy here. But let's just secure this win and call it a night. The rest of the big guns will be rested tomorrow unless something goes horribly wrong.
worst job this year. This guy was on fumes getting out of the 8th. Hale's had about 4 guys way down in the count and could not put them away.
I understand saving the pen, but that was just ludicuis.
have a 7-run lead, taking a chance on saving the pen isn't a mistake at all.
The way some of you guys analyze the use of relief pitchers is really unrealistic.
Fats he was out of gas. It was obvious as hell. Yeah nice to get by if you can, but after Hale couldn't get an out with several 2 strike counts with 2 outs, he should have been pulled. You cannot allow a team like the Astros to hang around. He had some cushion, yes but you not only subject the pitcher to excess pitches, but Sanchez too.
Personally I dont think they have the pitching staff to make the WS, but they sure do have the bats to do it! I think this team is banking on the bats getting them there. Hoping it pays off!
But I don't think it's worth getting bent out of shape about either way. It's a great night to be a Yankees fan.
Same here. He's putting trust in guys like Cortes and Hale and, big picture, it's been paying off.
Yanks making a smart move to option Cortes instead of DFA'ing Maybin too. Rewarding good play. Oh - and Frazier hit a monster HR for the Railriders tonight. All of a sudden we've gone from not enough outfielders to 6 good ones. Good to see Stanton get 3 hits as well.
one batter too long, to Girardi's one batter too early.
Not me. Girardi IMO really knew how to use his pen well.
I don't want any manager leaving a pitcher in one batter too long. That could prove to be disastrous. Why wouldn't you want a manager getting a guy out of the game before its possibly too late?
Seems to me a manager is on top of what's going on when he doesn't let a reliever go one pitch or batter too long.
Now, having said all that I had no problem with Boone leaving Hale in last night like he did. A seven run lead isn't the situation I'm talking about with my above comments, it's the close game that can change with one swing.
Because the Yankees aren't hitting enough home runs...
we fortunately had seats just under the 2nd deck overhang, so stayed dry when the rain hit...a couple random musings...
- Great fun seeing the Yanks hit like that...Stros starter sliced through our bats 1st time through, then boom
- Yanks defense was on display...outfield range, and smooth work around the infield. That's an area that's been a real upgrade over last year...LeMahieu makes a big difference wherever he's playing
- Fired up to hear they're sticking with Maybin...he brings a lot to the roster, including a better than expected stick. Gives Boone a lot of flexibility for rest days and more potential injuries in the 2nd half.
- I expect they'll be going with the Scranton shuttle to swap out fresh long relievers, at least until they can figure out a 5th starter. Solid work by Cortes following Green last night, he'll be back
- Split a little early to beat crowd to the 4 train, so didn't see Hale lose it late, but on balance Boone's done a fine job with the pen this year. Sure, second guessing leaving Hale in too long is fair after last night, but turning it into a Boone's stupid and sucks at managing the bullpen narrative is silly
Overall, Yanks are ripping. This lineup will be getting in the head of opposing pitchers...zero breaks 1-9 when at full strength
Thrilled to see Maybin stick. Beyond his very good performance, he seems to be really well liked by his teammates and Boone spoke to how positive he's been in the clubhouse. Maybin also spoke to the changes the hitting coaches have made with him to work on getting the ball in the air more and utilizing his strength and athletic ability. He's earned his spot
Overall that's something that's struck me watching this group, just seems to be a very close team having a ton of fun right now. A very strong clubouse right now. Encarnacion seems like he fits right in already too.
should return a PTBNL or cash considerations in a small trade.
.
Too bad that hasn't translated into a good major league pitcher. He's been around long enough to have figured it out by now, and hasn't done it. I don't think you could even get a PTBNL for him, maybe a little cash.
I'd try to see if Cessa can get us cash or some low level PTBNL. There are a lot of really awful bullpens out there right now - someone might bite.
If not, I'm not opposed to just going the DFA route. Someone claims him, so be it. I think I like Hale more for that role going forward. Cortes looks like he's emerging as a guy who can also pitch several relief innings - he seems to be thriving as Greenie's piggyback in BP games.
So, while Nestor will be the casualty right now for Judge - he's going to be back sooner than later. We're going to have to do a little roster crunching, though.
Morales will also likely be gone once he's healthy.
I can't wait to see this lineup tonight with 99 in it.
The Death Star will be complete (offensively, at least..)
Whatever works...Boone is making a believer out of me.
Yep, should be tomorrow night.

true it shows it being done at 7....
(And the Yanks are 4-0 when Greenie starts.)
He's made a couple of starts recently - both were very solid. That said - the competition wasn't exactly top-notch (BAL/TOR)
He'll probably be a pain in the ass.
LFG.

Making it rain all on his own.
TRAID.
They will.

TOO MANY HOME RUNS
Hahahahahahaha

Really wish DJ didn't need to hit a HR there to get the run home, but it is what it is...

Another hit with RISP!
Did the same. That ball was smoked.
Scrubs -- can't make the extra point!
I think they might go back to Cortes.
If he can't give them another 2-3 innings, I think they'd probably get Hale up.
Coney is the best.
Cessa pitched two innings yesterday. It would be Hale,I'd think.
9 pitches.
He really bailed put this pitcher. He's on the ropes.
8-2
He's not going anywhere.
He's not going anywhere.
I like the moniker! Killa Cam baby!
we will see...I don't know where they will stash him.

soon enough.

Didn't realize that, section. Thanks.
Who wouldn't greenlight a vet like Maybin, especially when he's on a hot streak? Amazing player right now, one they should keep somehow.
Backwards cap douche?

He hit it too hard!
This lineup.... that is getting Aaron Judge back tomorrow... wow.
Death Stars don't hit singles.

I agree this is very irresponsible. Fire Boone, sub Romine for Gary, DFA Stanton and play Clint instead. Boom, championship moves right there.
With this lineup, giving up a walk is like playing Russian roulette with three chambers full.

Boone has done well with managing the pen and not giving up on guys. He's learning every game too.
Nice to have enough runs to make room for it.
Goal is to trade him to a proven playoff winner so we can get a good bunter.
so we have the flexibility to push a run across on a walk, a sacrifice fly, a bunt and a fielders choice come October
Last I heard he was working with Ellsbury's personal trainer.

Has to go the other way. No balls to right. Have to go away from the shift.

where has Bird gone? Is he rehabbing, anywhere?

Thanks. I suppose they are working on their next injury together?

He follows Yankees baseball on BBI. He knows where to go to get the straight dope.(from dopes)
Green throws two shut out innings and G&G go yard.
+1 Stanton is a pro.
For a star he certainly is not a prima donna
No clue what Paul O'Neill was thinking when he said great effort. He totally botched that play.
I understand saving the pen, but that was just ludicuis.

Twinkies lost to the Royals. 1 game back in the loss column.
I really hope so. He shouldn't go anywhere.

They get too emotionally involved and backseat manage too much. Such are fans.
Yankees now up by 4.5 games.

soon. Who goes when he is ready? Holder has options. Only other pitcher is Cessa who has no options.

I would dump Cessa, the Yanks probably won't.
He is garbage.
