Motley Two : 6/21/2019 12:44 pm
For just under 4 million. Good deal?

He originally bought Jerry Garcia's Tiger and Wolf too

He was who I would think would have bought it.

bid against himself?
I've been following this since the auction was announced
Larry in Pencilvania : 6/21/2019 12:56 pm : link
and the guitars all sold for more than what the expected price ranges were. They estimated that the famous strat would go for about $20,000. I think the acoustic used on Wish You Were Here went for around a million dollars. There's a ton of history on that black strat
His collection just keeps getting more insane.

At least he doesn't hide them all away and lends them out to museums.
Irsay bought some early Beatles stuff too
Poktown Pete : 6/21/2019 1:08 pm : link
Ringo had a big auction a year or two ago for charity. Think Irsay snagged the original drum head from Ringo’s Beatles kit with the trademark dropped T logo.
I appreciate that he appreciates this stuff, but boy, it must be great having NFL owner moohlah.

Yep.
George Harrison's '64 SG
Dylan's "Goes Electric" Strat
Elvis' Martin D18
Les Paul's Black Beauty
The Garcia guitars mentioned above
Prince's Yellow Cloud
Is he not also ...
BronxBob : 6/21/2019 4:20 pm : link
... the guy who owns the original scroll manuscript of Kerouac's "On the Road"?

That sounds familiar. I think you're right.
Kind of an aside...
Dan in the Springs : 6/21/2019 4:26 pm : link
but when in Seattle a couple weeks back I visited the Museum of Popular Culture founded by Paul Allen and was seriously impressed with the collection of guitars on display there. If you have the opportunity and like seeing these choice instruments, I highly recommend it.
Motley- the ‘64 SG also?
Poktown Pete : 6/21/2019 5:37 pm : link
Same guitar George later gave to Pete Ham? If so, guess the Ham estate needed the cash... Hope they got a great price for it.
Anyone else get to the Met "Play It Loud" exhibit?

A lot of the guitars mentioned on this thread are there. Plus so many amazing others, from Berry to Jimi to Jimmy to Duane. Guitar geek heaven!

$567,500

Doesn't mention it going to Pete Ham in the article below, but at that price, I'm guessing it's the same one.

Sounds like a good price for Irsay considering the history of the guitar.

Ha. Any of them, but I was referring to the black Strat in particular.
That auction crashed the site with so many people trying to watch....
Britt in VA : 6/22/2019 4:34 pm : link
The Black Strat's road case by itself sold for 140,000 and Irsay also bought that.
