RALEIGH (WTVD) -- In mid-January, Milt Capps' New York Yankees hat caught the attention of a staff member at his nursing home in Johnston County.
The then 99-year-old's love for baseball and affinity for the Bronx bombers caused the staff member to take action after learning the senior citizen had never been to a Yankees home game at Yankee Stadium.
Not sure how you can see it live without YES access...but if you just want to see the old timers day player intros and game, somebody usually posts it on YouTube the day after.
You may access the Yes network via the Fox Sports Go app. I just checked, and they do have access to the Yes network broadcast of the old timers day festivities. It’s an option
I have such mixed emotions about Old Timers Day. Â
I went several times in the 70s and they were all my Dad's and Grandpa's heroes. Mantle, Maris, Yogi, The Scooter, Whitey, Joey D....I actually met Joe D one time in the concourse about an hour before the game. He was dressed to the nines with another guy, also in a suit, heading towards the clubhouse.
We had left the restaurant under the old stadium and it was just us 4, my brother was about 8 and I was 10. My grandpa told me to go get his autograph and when my brother and I approached him he never broke stride, just corralled me by the neck and moved me aside. My grandpa was pissed but I didn't really care. I was on cloud nine that I'd seen him from that close. Saw The Mick hit a Homer. That was special. Now, it's guys I grew up watching, and a lot of them are guys from the 90s, well after my childhood. It's not the same. I wish I could see my dad enjoying his heroes one more time.
Old Timers day without the “real” old timers doesn’t cut it for me. No Mantle or Rizzuto. They WERE the Yankees to me.
I feel a bit of the same way but I remember watching Old Timeds Day with my son telling him one day we'll be watching the Yanks he grew up with coming back for this day and now here we are.
I'm sure he'll be telling his son the same thing but I'm glad I'm around to see Mariano attending his first one today with my son.

No doubt this Pops is the Old Timer today. :)
That's awesome that the tradition continues for you and your son!
into adulthood. I didn't miss it for about 20 years. I haven't been in a while and haven't taken my boys yet. I think it is a great tradition, but I do think there is something missing just a bit. It's great to see guys I watched as a kid, like all the 70s Yankees and the recent additions from the last dynasty. But, none of these guys were in the same stratosphere as Mantle, Berra, Whitey, Joe D. As a kid, to be able to see living legends, even if they didn't play, was a thrill that I don't think can be replicated.
And,I found it touching that Diane Munson was still moved Â

With an upcoming birthday just a few short months away, the staff member decided to create a GoFundMe for Capps to help make his birthday wish come true.

Not completely. No Stanton

And deservedly getting one of the bigger ovations of the day for it too. Definitely a highlight moment today for me as well.
You can try MLB Reddit streams?

tried it....nothing
it really sucks
No doubt. Thanks for the preemptive reasonableness and perspective. :)
This.
ALL of this.
EVERY. SINGLE. BIT. Of this.
All Yankee fans need to have their heads tested every loss. Doesn't help though.
Getting closer bit by bit.
