I was running laps around the football field at a local high school in northern Virginia yesterday and there were these four guys working on field goals - one was a coach, one was like a high school/college kid, and the other two were legit. At one point, one of the legit dudes kicks one from the 45 yard line that went through and OVER the uprights (good height off the hold too). It was sick. I thought - okay, that's a pro leg right there. Though the guy was built like a fullback.
It turns out the guy was Joey Slye - a kicker that was in Giants camp last year and may be again this year. (The other guy was Chris Blewitt, a former Pitt kicker that was in Bears training camp (his leg wasn't nearly as impressive as Slye's, though Slye said Blewitt had been battling a quad injury)).
I talked to Slye for a bit - really cool guy. He said the Giants have been very good about keeping in touch with him and he hopes another camp invite might be coming. He reminded me that he was recently signed this offseason and then released a couple days later when the Giants signed Remmers (he said that Shurmur told him "sorry to cut you after just signing you, but our line is shit so we really have to sign this guy!").
Slye is realistic about his chances given that he's going up against an All-Pro, but he also understands the value of getting some tape out there. I told him that the Giants have had other players just like him that have gone on to have success elsewhere - Matt Bryant and Brandon McManus came to mind. As for Rosas, he said that Quinn and another coach (whose name I missed) tweaked Rosas' approach after the 2017 season and clearly it worked - he missed only FG all year last year...
STAY AWAY....plus it will keep Greg happy :)
Well, obviously he's just not trying hard enough.
Slye is from Stafford, so that would be my guess.
Yea gives a little reality check.
I think he got in a physical fight at one time at a party and he missed time due to that.
I'm pretty sure he got sent home from a bowl game.
The guy isn't the brightest crayon in the box.

Where did Shurmur embellish?
