Statement from Lorenzen's family:
“On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger, more important game than he’s ever played before,” the statement said. “Jared had not been feeling well for a few weeks and that finally caught up with him. He was brought to the hospital and fairly quickly was admitted to the ICU. Jared is battling an infection, kidney and heart issues. He is fighting with everything he has and his immediate family is by his side. We will attempt to update as often as possible, but please respect that some aspects of this journey are private matters.” |

Sending my prayers.
I think he had lost quite a bit but still jad a ways to go.
I hope he recovers quickly.
In the doc, he lost 70lbs in six weeks. That's not healthy either.
Classy

No, that’s about right. If he were 250 and lost 70 in 6 weeks, that would be unhealthy. But at 600 lbs, 70 in 6 weeks is literally just changing your eating habits. Doctors generally look for someone at 600 lbs to lose between 40-50 lbs per month until they reach their goal weight. I’d say he was doing great!
Come on dude. The man's in the hospital fighting for his life. Show some class.
Funny but clearly the guy never took care of his body. Was amazingly agile and quick for a guys that size with a very strong arm. He did has an intriguing skill set. He was a stud in college. He just never cared to physically take care of himself

Had a youtube documentary chronicling his weight problem. He said he was told, he'd die in 5 years, if he didn't lose it.

This. Not much more than 10% of your body weight in 6 months is NOT too much too fast, and you wouln't run into any malnourishment issue IF you did this eating plenty of high nutrient foods, rather than Atkins or another program that drops carbs AND veggies in favor of meats and fats.
You'd probably lose like that on a "Whole30" diet, or on a vegetarian Livestrong Adventist principle diet. In either case, the foundation of lots of high nutrient vegetables is the key.
In fact you can take off much more than that by simply diet and exercise change if you are obese, and not be malnourished in the least, IMO. It depends on your starting point body and dietary habits that formed that body.
Prayers sent.

Agreed. As he approaches his target weight, the weight loss should gradually slow down.
She's in a wheelchair. It's a mental thing, very sad.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Jared.

Food can be an addiction just like anything else Manny.
Is this a joke. How can he be an all time favorite unless your a Kentucky football fan
and do you remember him picking up 2 key 3rd and 1's that season (he was 2 for 2 converting 3rd downs)

Dave spoke for himself, but there was enough fans that thought Jared should be given a legit shot of competing with Eli prior to the first SB. People tend to forget that Eli wasn't on solid footing with fanbase until after the first SB. Some could make the argument that if it wasn't for SB42 that Eli along with Coughlin would have been jettisoned.
Hope he makes it through but it doesn't sound to
promising ..We can only hope ..

I remember he was in a like 6 OT game my freshman year of college. It was wild.

According to his family kidney and heart issues along w the infection.
My semi educated guess is congestive Heart failure along w his body unable to fight the infection causing kidney failure. He’s most likely on CRRT. Slow slow waste and fluid removal so he doesn’t have an heart attack or stroke. He’s VERY ill. Prayers for him. Tough at his size w so many of mThe obesity issues he’s had.
Without having more info sounds like he was/is in shock renal, circulatory and ? respiratory and.? hepatic failure . He could have any possible number of underlying diseases but most likely immediate cause infection and sepsis, producing shock and renal failure.
We’ve gotten better at handling this, but as always prayers are in order for him and his family. A very tough time for all.
