The Blue Jackets are still trying to convince Artemi Panarin to return to Columbus. Still hoping theres a chance.
Looks like a 3 team race.
CBJ. NYI. Florida.

Hearing AAV could be $13M. Dont know if its the exact number but the biddings are high.
@Aportzline
#CBJ are trying to get this done tonight as in within the next two hours. After that, they cant give him eight years.
Clock, ticking.

Also hear the CBJ offered around $12 M or so a year over 8 years .... (link: https://twitter.com/aportzline/status/1145514428990939136) twitter.com/aportzline/sta

Here's the thing about a $96M+ offer to Artemi Panarin from #CBJ: Another team would have to go to a ~$13.7M AAV to match the total compensation.
However, the contract needs to be done by midnight ET to include the eighth year.

Expect hometown boy Jason Spezza to sign a one-year contract with TOR today.

In the draft thread? I replied to it didn't I?
@StapeAthletic
Just about 3 hours left until the gates open. Sure seems like best offer out there for Panarin is from the #Isles. COL/NYR offers on table but for less term and/or less $. Already rejected 12m from CBJ and FLA's cap space is dwindling. Nothing decided yet, it appears.
Stick to your guns, JD and Gorton. Don't break the bank.
@NYP_Brooksie
Sounds like $12m per is magic # for Panarin. Trouba is going to come in at close to $8m. NYR have about $18.4 of space and dont have Buchnevich, Lemieux, DeAngelo signed yet. Cap space presumes Smith in AHL.
Will stink if the Rangers get him, but we'll have to suck it up and move on. Hoping to get the final news soon either way.
If he wanted Columbus he would've already signed for the 8th year.
If he wanted Columbus he would've already signed for the 8th year.
Isles need to make their best offer (which should be really strong, as high as 7yr/$91M) and if he goes elsewhere, even to NYR, you shake it off at move on. I like the approach of being aggressive and going after elite talent.
Where did you see that? 5yrs/$40M or something like that is a whole lot of money for Lee. I'll still cheer him when he comes back to the Island.
Majority of these deals will be albatrosses in two years.

Expect Jimmy Vesey on the move from NYR today. Last night BUF and EDM were both vying for the former Hobey Baker winner. Rangers clearing room for Panarin, who they feel is within their grasp.

Look at the username. It's not the real Bob McKenzie

According to sources, Carolina got calls from 3 different teams today on Sebastian Aho, hinting at an offer sheet. The 'Canes told them they would match any offer sheet. Carolina did tell them they would entertain trade conversation. Believe that Habs is among 3 teams who called
I do think Vesey could be moved though.

Glad I'm not the one paying him but Panarin checks all the boxes as a UFA. Like other elite players, he's probably great for 2 more years, good for 2 years after that, then who knows for the last 3 years of the deal.

12M is McDavid-esque. 10.5 is the same amount that the Blackhawks are paying Patrick Kane.

I don't get fans who would pay 10 or 10.5 but not 12. Seems arbitrary to me.

McDavid was extended early. You have to consider the cost of acquiring free agents.
Kane and McDavid never hit free agency.
Comparing Tavares to Panarin is more appropriate.
Term is the scarier thing, not compensation.

OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jimmy Vesey.
I'm with you. Team is at least two years away. And I think that's being incredibly optimistic.
But the young guys need some time. The defense is still going to be a mess for another year or two.
Now the Rangers shipping off Vesey while taking no salary back. I think there's a chance the Rangers slip in here and steal the Bread Man. We'll see
Which makes him more accurate than Eklund ever was
without Panarin.
they added Trouba, Fox, Kakko, Kravstov, etc. and have a lot of cap room to make additional adds (without Panarin).
with Panarin they should be expected to make the playoffs.
July 1 heartbreak for NYI fans, what else is new?
baby steps.
IMO playoff experience is valuable to a young team. If you can get guys like Chytil, Andersson, Kravstov, Kakko, etc. some good playoff experience in a gravy year (like the Avs did) I think it will pay off down the road - even if it's just preparation for a road game and avoiding a slow start/momentum from the home team.
I agree though, no they are not cup contenders this year.
In a season though where an 8 seed made the conference finals, just getting in is valuable.

Careful about reading tea leaves. Everyone thought last Saturday that dumping Marleau was a pre-cursor to the Leafs getting Subban, and within minutes he was a Devil.
Last year it was ancient Niemi.
this year mediocre Kinkaid.

Most people thought Marleau was clearing room for Marner, Johnsson and their other RFAs
He's only played 4 NHL seasons. Coming from the KHL before that with shorter seasons, he doesn't have a ton of miles on him (see the link below). Hasn't dealt with injuries, unlike when we were talking about a big deal for Karlsson a few weeks back.
I said last week I'd be fine if they passed on him because 11-12 million is a lot and there's only a few players I'd really feel comfortable giving that to, with Panarin just on the border of that group.
But the reasons to pass would not be related to his age, or that he wouldn't line up properly with the young players. I actually think the timeline matches up pretty well and would all of a sudden create an incredibly skilled forward group.
Plus the comedy of stealing him from the Islanders would be fantastic, we can all agree there

Yes but there was a ton of buzz that morning about them and Subban

Three more years of #CliffyHockey. #NHLBruins have agreed to terms on a three-year extension with Connor Clifton worth $3 million total. He has one year left at $725k, extension can be papered as soon as today.
