Last night I had my first real health scare in my 33 years on this planet. A little background, I strained my calf badly playing basketball over a week ago and have been limping and suffering since. All day yesterday, I was anxious that I might have a formed a blood clot, because the swelling and pain in my calf had actually gotten worse after a couple days of minor improvement.
Cut to late last night, I'm exhausted, still anxious and worried and struggling on my feet. I'm taking a piss and starting to feel light headed. I lean over to flush and instead just blackout/faint. I come to with my wife banging on the bathroom door, calling 911, and me struggling to speak or breathe and trying to make sense of what just happened. Fortunately I was able to convince her to take me to the ER instead of calling for an ambulance once I recovered a little.
All the tests came back normal - no clots forming or formed, no heart/BP issues, clean x-ray, etc. So it is currently a mystery, though I still think I gave myself a panic attack.
Anyone else experience a random fainting or blackout? Anxiety/panic driven or medical or otherwise? What was your experience like diagnosing or treating?
Ironically, my calf feels better today. My wallet on the other hand, is already hurting thanks to the impromptu ER visit and from cracking the tank of our toilet when I fell last night.
No, thankfully 😅 I had already finished and pulled my shorts up. Still got dinged by the mrs for not flushing or putting the seat down though
Turned out to be a stress related response. At the time, I was working 18 hour days/7 days a week and doing a lot of travel back an forth (sometimes several trips in a week) to different remote areas in Alaska. I got a full check-up and the doctors were much less concerned than I was... Their solution was to work less. Thinks did slow down at work and it never happened again, but it was a very humbling experience.
Exact same here - I was blown away by how many nurses/doctors told me that it is a fairly normal occurrence.
Thanks for the advice. They ran the exact same tests on me as they did you (ekg, BP, bloodwork) which all came up normal so they recommended I see my primary care physician to follow up.
Did you ever faint or pass out again besides that one time?

Oh wow. I'm glad I was home, can't imagine how weird and awkward it would be on a commercial flight or in the middle of public.
Stress is a killer so I'm not surprised, I honestly feel I was stressing myself out over having a blood clot so I still want to blame it on that. Glad to hear you haven't had to deal with it again!
Keep that beer to water ratio nice and balanced bud!
Definitely. My wife has been watching me like a hawk and making sure I'm okay constantly.
Health absolutely is everything - I just wish it wasn't so heavily profit based in this country.

I know experienced this same thing. But if you're not comfortable with what the doctor(s) at hospital told you get more tests etc.

No I did not. And that's what they told me. Follow up with my physician which I did and he said the exact same thing the hospital did. Again I had an ER doctor tell me, the hospital doctor tell me once I was admitted and a Cardiologist who came in to see me tell me and once released my primary physician tell me so I was pretty confident in what they said. I'd do the follow up with your physician as they recommended though as I did.
Believe it or not that can trigger it from what I understand. Mine was just after eating.
was not getting the right fiber in my diet as I was a low carb eater. lots of meat cheese and veggies.
Have learned to eat lots of oats, brown rice and beans. Additionaly am taking fish oil and tummeric and on and off adding probiotics.
Have felt so much better and anxiety is so less physically impactful reduced overall.
This happened to me a couple years ago. Busted up my face a bit..

Sounds like from Section125's response that you may have resign yourself to peeing while sitting down. The good thing is that your wife won't have a reason to bitch about you leaving the seat up.
In addition to the drive time you have to factor in the inevitable wait in the ER before you are assessed.
(This is a good thing to verify in your area. Another important piece of data is the actual response time from call to arrival for the ambulance in your neighborhood. That info should be available.)
I am a county Rescue Commissioner in SC and worked for years as an EMR (a first responder on scene prior to ambulance arrival). In many of my 911 calls with ambulance response, transport was determined by the EMT to not be required and the PT was not charged.)
Don't ever take chances with your health to save the cost of an ambulance ride.
That's why hotels used to have telephones in bathrooms.
(Conversely, some heart attack symptoms lead people to believe they have to throw up or relieve themselves.)
My wife fainted while feeling a bit under the weather, and after having had one drink once. My friend, who happened to be the doctor on call that night, met us at the ER, and took her BP while she was lying down and then as she was in the process of standing back up. Huge drop during the episode. It was nice to find out it was a relatively common occurrence, especially with people like my wife whose BP is usually a bit on the low side.

As sad as it sounds, after getting stitches from that incident, I do sit when I pee at night...beats waking up on the floor!
You probably were taking in too much air at the time and you didnt notice. its ok man. if everything came back normal after getting checked out, thats more than likely what it was.

I don't normally, no. I've only had one other panic attack that I can recall in my life, more than 7 years ago, but I did not black out or faint from it.
That was my best guess as to what happened, too, but based on some posts on this thread and after reading what the ER doctor noted in my discharge report, it is a real possibility that I had a Micturition syncope episode. The human body is insane.

take care of yourself.
Actually, that was the one time that I did pass out. Woke up with a cut chin from hitting the floor

While pooping. Is that a thing?

So apparently it is a thing. Glad to know I’m not the only one.
