Walker NO Advocate: NO native Eli Manning plenty motivated

Defenderdawg : 7/3/2019 8:50 am
in Year 16...

"They've been doing some losing lately, and he doesn't like it and he wants to turn that around," Archie Manning said. "Eli realizes the situation. They drafted a young quarterback. They've got to win some games. He knows that. But he's attacking it full speed. Eli has a great mindset to be a quarterback and a football player. He knows he can play at a high level, and he thinks he can lead his team so we're pulling hard for him."

Manning expects giant strides, especially since it'll be his second season in offensive coordinator Mike Shula's system.

It'll be the first time since 2013 Manning won't have fellow Newman alum Odell Beckham Jr. to throw to. Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns, one of several major moves the Giants made.

"We've been aggressive in the offseason and made some change," Manning said. "We brought in some new linemen, brought in (receiver) Golden Tate and also made some defensive moves as well. I'm excited about the way the spring worked and having guys to fit the offense and fit this style. It's going to be fun."

Those close to Eli know just how determined he is to help the Giants turn things around. They know what drives him.

A lot of times people ask guys 'What are you going to do with the money you made?' Peyton Manning said. "Instead of saying, 'I'm going to buy this or buy that,' they should say 'l'm going to try to earn it.' Go earn it, and I think that's what Eli feels."

Eli says his motivation is simple.

Winning football games is what he says drives him.

"It's such a great feeling in that locker room when you win games," Eli said. "You want everybody to experience that. You want those guys who haven't won a championship to get that feeling also. That means so much to your family and everybody who has been a part of your football career, from your high school coaches to your college coaches. When you win a championship, everybody wins."

So Manning wants to stick around as long as he can.

He laughed at the notion of playing another eight or nine years, which would allow him to possibly play with his nephew Arch, Cooper's son and a freshman at Newman. Eli knows he's probably closer to joining big brother Peyton in retirement than he is of playing against Lil Arch.

But he's not looking that far ahead either.

"I'm not rushing into retirement, and Peyton's not telling me to rush into it," Eli said. "I still love being around the guys and the teammates and playing this game. I'm going to play it for as long as I think I can hang with these guys."

Believe me, you'll think you can hang with the guys long after you actually can. Players don't see the deterioration of their skills like third parties do.

Yes, lets shit and get on a player who talks about wanting to win and turn things around! Thats what great fans do! Only one of the hardest working players in our franchise deserves shit for wanting to...... WIN.

BBI's best sometimes isnt as good as Eli's worst. Thats pretty much a fact.

Always loved how Eli has carried himself as a Giant, regardless of his success here. He has been a major part of my greatest sports moments that ended with championships.

I generally don't like to criticize players simply because in reality I am a nobody when it comes to knowing what goes on during a game or behind the scenes in locker rooms etc. As for Manning, it feels especially wrong to take digs at him considering what he helped deliver to us fans over his great Giant career. Now, what doesn't feel right to me doesn't apply to anyone else, but Eli is a special player to me and deservedly so in my opinion.

Exactly what did Eli say that isn't congruent with his play?

He's excited to team up with the new WR's, thrive in the second season of the offense and win games.

You really are going to criticize any player with that mindset?

Fucking ponderous.
comments were made that it's just words

and it is. The fact is, he can sit there and say he wants to win games all he wants, but when he performs like he has for several seasons in a row, there's nothing wrong with people pointing that out.

What's "fucking ponderous" is that this is a fan website but if a fan's opinion isn't in line with yours, they have to be a moron. Give me a break.

If it were any other player on this team - if Nate Solder came out and said "I want to earn my contract," I want to win more games," etc., and some fans said "hey, you can talk all you want, but how about you just play better," you would have no problem with it. But you have such an irrational hard on for Eli, that you actually get upset when people criticize him.

Get over it.

call any fan a moron who took that stance.

It is a player saying he expects to play well and win. How the fuck can you take issue with that?

And it most definitely is ponderous that a player who wants to win is criticized here.

Fuck - if any player but Eli said this - there likely wouldn't be an issue. Eli says it and people take potshots. I'd ask why, but apparently I can't question the motivations of drooling invalids.

And lets be honest, you have shitted on Eli for the majority of his career and when a guy tries to be positive - and you still feel the need to shit on him - maybe you have the hard on against the guy which is pathetic.

And another thing..... you dont know a damn thing about whether or not he has been doing his job or not. But you can sit here and continue your nonsense talk.

I dont think any fan has shitted on a player for saying he wants to turn around a losing team and wants to work hard. Yet, there are many posters here, like yourself, who do it with Eli on a daily/weekly basis.

So again, who has the hard on for the guy? Its sad and ponderous to call yourself a fan when you shit on someone who wants to win.

So criticize his play if he does poorly.

Why are people criticizing his words?

And let's bottom line this - when does any player come under fire for saying they want to win? Some of you guys are so far gone that you've lost any perspective. Any subject about Eli - even positive becomes a shooting gallery to throw darts.

I'll get Dr. Bruce on the saliva situation:)

why would you at all be surprised that fans would want a player to just shut up and play well? And New York fans at that!

Like if there were an article about Matt Dodge or Trey Junkin and in the article they were saying how bad they felt about their time as Giants, it would surprise you if the reaction was "those guys can go crawl back under the rocks they came from," that would surprise you? Really?

Why does it offend you that a lot of fans think Eli's time here is done? Why does that mean they're drooling invalids? How or why is that an invalid opinion???

Players, coaches, the GM, and even the owners get crapped on all the time around here for what they say, even though it's almost always under the guise of "we want to win more." It's part of the very fabric of a fan website. No one, not even a double champion and future Hall of Fame quarterback, is beyond criticism.

Dude - you really need to chill. Drooling invalids?

"The line was horrid", "MacAdoo was a dumpster fire", "OBJ was a distraction", "the defense was non existent". Whether fans agree with these explanations or not, is now IRRELEVANT.

Could we please at least agree that THIS YEAR... there are no more excuses? We now have:
--the best RB in the league
--an above avg line
--above avg veteran WRs
--an above average to potentially elite TE
--2nd year in the Shurmur offense

Injuries aside, this offense should be a top 10, if Eli is even average. You can't possibly disagree with that.

Yup, and the same clowns that chomp at the bit to criticize Eli on every occasion will be the hypocrites crowing how they were his biggest fan, when Eli does retire. The point isn't that you can't criticize Eli or his play. Do it in a way that is dignified and respectful of his accomplishments and the efforts he has given over the last 15-16 years. Some people clearly don't have that in their DNA to do that. The bile that permeates this site these days has turned it into a cesspool.

I would not call our WR's "above average" and our TE "Elite".

Our WR's are AVERAGE. The TE has POTENTIAL, but has not backed up his draft position so far.

Our RB is awesome and will be even better. Based on this and the improved OL, we have a shot at Top 10. But it is not a gimmee.

goalposts did I move??

There is an article quoting Eli for saying he is excited for this season, to make strides in the second year of the offense and to work together with the WR's.

And he is getting criticized for it.

What goalposts are being moved in saying those criticizing him for those words are being fucking moronic?

Like Reb said above - this isn't about criticizing his play - there is a time and place to do it. What some of you simply don't grasp is that you do it on every fucking thread about the guy.

Ponderous sums it up pretty well and the fact you don't think it is moronic says a lot about the mindset being presented.
And whats funny for the people complaining

about Eli's play are the same postes who for years have been saying the personnel is good enough for his to succeed. Yet, in the last 2 years, we got 5 new offensive lineman, got rid of players who are either not in the league or irreleveant to their new teams future, and the ones who are still playing are being looked upon by their new teams fans.

Beckham will buck that trend at least initially. But its hard to be a great player when your surrounded by utter shit for the last 6-7 years, outside OBJ and SB. and we only had SB for 1 year.
Not surprisingly..

In what part of Hart's statement is he saying he wants to win? He selfishly proclaimed himself the best tackle in the game. Said nothing about that leading to wins, just focused on the point he's the best.

If you can't see that's a complete opposite to what Eli has said for years - I don't know what the fuck to tell you.

Bobby Hart got shit for saying he's a great player, with no additional commentary about how that relates to his teammates or winning.
