Coach Shurmur.....

thrunthrublue : 7/4/2019 1:49 am
Happiest Fourth of July to you and yours. Now, looking forward, re: this upcoming 2019 season....Coach, you have never won more than five games as a head coach, in the nfl. As a giants fan since 1956, I have been through some of your similar seasonal losing Ebbs and, conversely, (four Super Bowl victory) Flows. . So far...under your leadership.... lots, of ebbs. Defensive “can’t stop their drives” Ebbs...O line, Swiss cheese, get eli slammed, Ebbs. Coach, enjoy your 4th of July, and start concentrating on making your 2019 Giants.....Flow. Have your players get stronger as the game progresses, and please become much more unpredictable, since predictably, can only lead to more 5 and 11, and we have all had enough of that.

Eli get s a pass for the last 7 years of losing because he has been surrounded by lousy players who get him “slammed”

But The coach who did not put that line together, but was victimized by it as well, does not.

Sound logic.

Laughed at this is not his email😄

Big Season for Coach
kinard : 7/4/2019 11:23 am : link
... he needs to have this team playing meaningful games in late December or the wolves will be at the door.

I was hoping for a better debut season from him. His in game decision-making needs to improve or we're in trouble.

Please don't get out of the gates slow (e.g., 0-6; 1-5, etc) like it seems we've been doing for the last decade.

He seems like a good man and I'm rooting for him hard.

Go surprise the shit out of everyone this year and make the playoffs.
He’s been here one year
djm : 7/4/2019 11:47 am : link
And his defensive personnel in that one year was nothing short of terrible. His offense took a little longer to gel than we all hoped but by season’s end was very productive, maybe even better than expected considering Beckham was out.

I know we as fans can’t resist in conjuring up the low hanging fruit narratives, it’s all we seem to focus on, and yes, shurmur hasn’t won many games in his 3 years as NFL HC, but there were mitigating factors. Can we give the guy more than five minutes here before we proclaim him a bust? I don’t give a crap what happened in Cleveland. Dan Reeves won a lot of games in Denver before coming to the giants and he won games in ATL after NYG. How’d his tenure look here?

DG and Shurmur are building something. Give them another year.
In his first year as the Giants head coach...

Pat Shurmur won two more games than Bill Parcells did in his first year as the Giants head coach...so he's got that going for him.

I am firmly of the opinion that Shurmur can be a fine HC,
BlueLou'sBack : 7/4/2019 1:15 pm : link
even an SB winning HC.

My fear is that he has been saddled with Jones as his franchise QB by Gettleman, and that DJ8 wan't truly Shurmur's choice. But I have no reason to suspect that... just wild ass speculation from my own doubts about DJ8.

Who would you have picked Lou? Mayfield was off the board.

I agree, but: Really good NFL head coaches turn things around quickly. So we should see big steps forward this year and another one next year, even with the transition to a rookie QB. If not, that doesn't mean Shurmur's a bad coach, but it would be an indicator that he doesn't have a high ceiling.

If I had to speculate, I'd bet Shurmur feels more saddled by Eli than Jones right now. I think Shurmur loves Jones' mobility and would prefer 16 weeks of in-game experience for Jones (bringing another top-10 draft pick) to 16 weeks of Eli playing out his contract (and earning a draft pick 10 slots lower). But we'll never know.
Shurmur has a lot of work this summer to design an Offense
Jimmy Googs : 7/5/2019 8:12 am : link
that can be consistently effective.

Obviously more eyes than ever will be on Saquon, and with no credible downfield threat defenses can really load players at/near the LOS to see if Eli has the patience to hang in there and wait for someone to open up.

While a lot of Giant fans are relying on Engram and how the offense produced decently in those last few games (without OBJ), remember that those films will be the ones Def Coord will be focusing on to gameplan against.

Lets see how long it takes Shurmur this season to yell at Eli from the sideline to throw it downfield...

It all starts with protection. If the offensive line is improved, the offense will improve. If not, they'll struggle.
Shurmur's two losing seasons as head coach of the Browns
GeofromNJ : 7/5/2019 12:40 pm : link
featured Colt McCoy and Brandon Weeden at quarterback and an offensive line as bad as the Giants at the beginning of last year. In 2018, the Giants finished 17th in total yards and 16th in points. Not bad for a team whose offensive line was one of the worst in the league. While Shurmur has been a phenomenal success coaching the offensive side of the ball every where he has oached, we all recognize that he is now a head coach, not an assistant coach. Given the improvement in the offensive line this year, I feel confident that with either Eli or Jones, the Giants will finish above .500.
it will be another 6 win season

With Eli we have a statue who flops when a defender is near. In Jones, we have a rookie

The Browns had a strong OLine under Shurmur. Young/prime versions of
Joe Thomas, Alex Mack, Jon Greco and Mitchell Schwartz.
