But in city of L.A., not big enough to cause damage. There are towns and military bases nearer the epicenter, and there was damage up there. At this point it doesn't seem clear how bad it was.
I was here for the Northridge and Landers quakes, so to me this was noticeable but not scary. Landers was a 7.3 and the shaking lasted a couple of minutes, but in L.A. it was fairly gentle. I know people who slept through it. If you slept through Northridge you'd have to be passed out drunk. It was shorter but very strong.
Earthquakes have been down in SoCal for years, so there are a lot of people who are experiencing their first real earthquake. Well.... Think of this as a rainy day with wind that would turn an umbrella inside out. You are aware of it and it's a little inconvenient but it's not dangerous.
Now think of a tornado. That's a really violent quake, close by.
One lived in West Hills & had a metal shop in Northridge. Shop had a fair amount of stuff move, but mostly raw metal no significant damage and luckily no one injured. Their house a few miles away just had a few things fall off the walls
Friends who lived in a sweet custom home in Manhattan Beach said they felt nothing, and the South Bay area tends to be relatively sheltered from most of the worst of it. Not sure if that's true, but what they said. Yet another reason to move back to the South Bay!
baseball players take a million breaks for a million reasons.
But mid-earthquake, the LAD game none of them noticed, they literally just kept pitching & swinging. Camera couldn't get a clean shot so is going everywhere, but the players barely reacted considering
You'd think with the intricacies & minutia of pitching, swinging, mechanics of all that they'd stop if the freaking ground was shaking!
First one in a long time.
Say wha?
In the Mojave Fukin Desert!?

man made earthquake change caused by too many Californians.

In encino, that was bigger than the last one for me
Not too bad, but certainly a nervous moment!
