Those catchers with their backs to the plate have had to take cover a number of times tonight.
To where? There isn't any place to go to..
I'm sure they can figure out a way to reconfigure some space beyond the outfield walls in most stadiums. May lose some seats but so be it With all the fan injuries and extending the netting just seems like a must do.
Done! With bases loaded in the 10th. Well done! Happy Fourth to all!
Hope you saved one for me! Two aspirin and two big glasses of water after all the drinking..
It's over now, well short of aspirin land for me. But how exciting it was in the end! A worthy Fourth of July game! (But I'd gladly share a jar with you, any time.)
I think most if not all want Cessa gone, but there is some raw talent. I can imagine Cashman doesn't want to let it go without getting something in return, much like he did with Shreve
"This year, the Yankees are hitting .307 with RISP. Discounting all at-bats by DJ LeMahieu, that number goes down to .285"
Good grief. That's a 22 point difference in batting average with RISP. A 22 point difference all due to one player. How is that even possible? He really is a machine this season. To effect the entire team's BA with RISP by 22 points is insane.

If they didn't feel Cessa had any talent he wouldn't be here. Cashman doesn't operate on pure emotion like the fanbase who want everyone gone who fails. Cessa is filling in the role Loaisiga was suppose to. Loaisiga was expected to return mid-July but we haven't heard any updates on him so don't hold your breathe given his long injury history.
especially during a season like this were they are playing ahead by 7/8 games in the standings. They’ve got time to keep testing the waters, it’s fine strategy especially when there’s been this many injuries.
The next games are actually more important than they look.
Yes our lead is not threatened.
But if we win the series (and Boston stays 11 games back) going into the All Star break; the Rays are less inclined to trade out of their minors or take on salary to try to catch us.
Conversely, if they win the next three they might think we are vulnerable with our pitching and injuries and the tougher schedule ahead. Remember that the pitching shortage is most felt in the long season and less so in the playoffs when 3 starters and a great bullpen is often enough.
Adding to a competitors risk and expense of deadline trades and rentals that may not work out ( especially a competitor who has a lot of minor league trade chips) is one of those hidden competitive advantages that depth has provided.
If I am the Rays, a legit playoff race when I am trying to leverage relocation has a value worth risking the future for. They already were going to go after Encarcion before we stepped in so they have their eyes on the prize.
Lets keep the pedal down. The less teams close to their division leaders the better it is for us
Sanchez...boom! sit down.

What? He had next to nothing, coughed up a two run lead and threw 30 pitches or so and you want him out there again?
That's quite the head scratcher.

Do you let him finish it out? (I would.)

Yeah, but he's better than that.

I agree but today he wasn't. You can't possibly think it's a good idea to bring him back out after that performance and throwing that many pitches.
He might've pitched his way out of tomorrow's game as well after throwing that many.
Then they'd be in the field of play and in the way of foul pop ups, not necessarily ideal either...

Keeps him for tomorrow. ANd he cannot come back after that many pitches.
Why would you say that? have you no respect for superstition?
Dude always has one appearance that sucks everyone back in, i.e the red sox Sunday, and then begins the cycle all over again
Man if I'm Boone or Rothschild I take Hale and Cessa and explain the facts to both of them....
Hope you saved one for me! Two aspirin and two big glasses of water after all the drinking..

....... Now a homer ties this.

But if I say it, it reverses the polarity or something. Lol.
