NFT: Condolences to the Beams

Bill in UT : 7/4/2019 6:18 pm
I wasn't sure if this should be a football thread or not. Mr. Jim Beam has lost 45,000 barrels of his dear children to a fire in an aging facility. This could have a serious effect on our What Are You Drinking threads. There is an unconfirmed report that a Mr.Daniels was seen running from the scene
.

whiskey snob, but I find it no loss at all. Beam is undrinkable.
I think the Walkers brothers, Black and Red, might have had something

to do with this.

You are a snob. Get over yourself. Jack Daniels is filthy nasty no matter what the happy hour price is. Beam is a good, cheap whiskey.

Daniel's to me tastes like cane sugar with brown food coloring tossed in. Undrinkable. Unless you want to seriously hasten the diabetes.....
yeah, heard about this.

Beam is not my #1 but I won't turn it down.

JD is sour mash, it's not even bourbon. If those are the only two you know, you're truly missing something good.
Never enjoyed Beam...

or Jack Daniels black/green label. I do like Gentleman Jack, but my bourbon of choice is Makers Mark.

Rebel Yell, I know we've mentioned this before... I hope you are not on the suspect list.

Not for nothing, but how can something called "Rebel Yell" be around since 1849 and the rebel yell came from the Civil War?

Turning to the argument, I bought a bottle of Beam for the first time in a while last month because it was paired with two Yankees beer glasses lol. I was kind of disappointed in it. Granted it's at a price point below what I usually drink--Buffalo Trace, Michter's, Four Roses, occasionally Bulleit or Woodford--but I didn't really like it. Perhaps I am becoming a snob. (A wise man once told me not to get too into wine because your tastes will change, you won't be able to drink the cheap stuff and you'll go broke; perhaps that happened to me with whiskey lol.)

My go-to recently has been Four Roses small batch. Price point is not too crazy and it's very good.

Btw, I really dislike Jack and Irish whiskeys. I've only had Jameson's and one other, so maybe I should try more, but so far I don't like the style. Much prefer Japanese whiskey, in fact; Hibiki is quite good. I hope one day the Chinese start getting into whiskey too; they're starting to grow vineyards there and produce decent wine.

I get what you are saying about Beam, and possibly becoming a snob. Fact is Jim Beam is ok, it's not their fault that better bourbons at a similar price point are out there, nor should you feel bad about not liking it as much. IMO Buffalo Trace is a lot better than Beam for only about 10 bucks more. A few months ago I bought a bottle of Jim Beam Double Oak (or double wood?). It was in the $45 dollar range, and it was by far my least favorite of bourbons that I have tried in that price range.

Yeah at my old liquor store Buffalo Trace was the best quality per $; they always ran through it and were out of stock. I recently moved and 4 Roses is better priced in my new neighborhood. There are a ton of great bourbons in the like $33-$55 range, so if you didn't like the Beam Double Oak, I'm staying away.
