For those that Eli can still play, I m one of them, it will be to see him replaced next year if he has a bounce back season.
If he plays all 16, I bet he his back next year.
Not with Jones drafted at 6. Jacksonville would've been a good landing spot in 2020, but they have Foles now. Will be interesting to see who, if any team, will have an open spot for him. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens there.
But if somehow he pulls it off, I believe getts when he said he would resign him.
Personally I think the def is going to be really bad, at least to start the season, so Eli will have to play heroicly to keep us in contention and keep jones on the bench.
I don't think that is going to happen, but if he does pull it of, he will be back.

If he plays all 16, that either means the Giants are in contention for a playoff spot down to the last game, or Jones is either hurt or terrible.
If it's the former, Manning probably doesn't retire, but he may sign with another team. There would probably be a few places that would sign him for a year or two.
If Jones ends up on IR for 2019 but is expected to come back 100% in 2020, Eli is probably gone.
If Jones is hurt with something worse that threatens his future, Eli could be brought back for 2020, if he's willing.
If Jones is terrible in camp, preseason and limited regular season action, and Eli plays the whole regular season, it's kind of a coin flip. If they are confident in Jones, Eli goes. If they're unsure about Jones, Eli probably goes anyway. If they are really down on Jones, Eli probably stays.
it would be monumentally stupid on management’s part to not turn the page, he would be 40!!! by playoffs end next year. You can count on one hand the number of effective QBs past 40 in the history of the league. Also, what the hell did you draft Jones for them. Taking advantage of the rookie QB salary has been shown to be the quickest way to contention. Blowing that is also stupid.
If Manning were to defy all odds and win a championship with this version of the New York Giants he should rush into retirement.
It would be the among the greatest NFL stories ever told.
Maybe. But if that were to happen, I think it would be amazingly stupid to push him out. I’m having a hard time with posters wanting exactly that, merely because of his drivers license.

If for any reason Eli is re-signed, the Giants are in some serious trouble.
but one scenario could be. We are out of contention and a playoff contender needs a QB because of injury he could be dealt there for a playoff run, late in the season. Every interview he reiterates that he still loves the game and wants to play as long as he can. But becoming a backup here is a long shot unless he feels he has a real shot to be a starter again. MO

While fans like to think of the fairy tale ending to a career by going out on top, a better fairy tale ending for the player would be to win a championship in the last year of their contract and get a pile of guaranteed cash on the next contract.
Yeah, I'm sure Michael Strahan, Payton Manning, and John Elway all regret leaving on top with their health more in tact and the financial windfall post retirement has afforded them.
One way or another manning will leave the Giants after this season. Whether he retires or not will be based on what offers for a starting position he receives. If no one offers a starting spot he will have to retire for the most part. I dont see him taking a backup job.
I highly doubt he plays all 16 games this year. I think he plays for as long as we are in contention for the playoffs but if we start out 1-3 the trigger could be pulled. I don't think Shurmur is sold on Eli so if he gets an opportunity to replace him I think he will. if Eli gets hurt and is out even 1 game I think he will remain on the bench to give Jones an opportunity.
One thing that could keep the job for Eli longer is the OL. If they are playing terrible again the Giants may just keep Eli in there to protect Jones from the Physical and emotional stress.
My prediction is that Eli gets 8 games to prove he should be the guy for the rest of the season. If we are 4-4 after 8 he goes until we are officially eliminated. I think at any point we get under .500 his job is in jeopardy. I dont see a way for Eli to remain with the team after this season. If he somehow pulls off a miracle and wins the Superbowl and plays well I guess there is that small chance maybe even a playoff run will help because of ownership. Eli is not doing this team any favors with his salary at this point and his play has been average. Its just time to start the process with the young buck sooner rather than later.
This will be Eli’s last year. The team is rebuilding and used the #6 overall pick on a QB. He will start this year and the organization is behind him for this final season. But if Jones isn’t starting week 1 the following season, I’d be concerned.
For whatever it's worth, I believe the same standard should also apply if Eli wins the World Series or British Open.
I don't expect him to win any of the three, but as long as we're kicking around fanciful hypothetical scenarios like winning the Super Bowl, why stop there?
Clarify, please.
Had a few drinks today did we?

Sad to see him replaced, sorry for typo. Using phone often leads to those for me.
Clarify, please.

Lol, no, wish that was the reason. Just thought I could type 1 sentence on my phone without need for proofreading, guess again.
So, if we went deep into the playoffs and even won the SB, clear th let’s would have the QB automatically replaced because he hit a number?

Mine too, especially my contribution
I didn't refer to some specific age. Need to look more at what the offense consistently produces with him at helm.
And the winning a SB-theory to support your view is extreme and closer to folly...

Yes a legitimate shot... in hell

If he is so-so or the team struggles.. Jones starts.
A legit shot at what?
Making the playoffs would be a minor miracle.
Winning the Super Bowl would be the most stunning thing in sports in decades.
The roster still sucks. They're moving in the right direction, but the roster still sucks. And they have a loser for a head coach.
If the Giants have a legit shot to win the Super Bowl in 2019, then all 32 teams in the league have a legit shot.

They all probably do.
For the Giants, I think their talent and schedule gives them a real shot at the NFC East. After that, there’s a lot of fortune involved.

Your patience with some of these posters is remarkable.
He will play elsewhere next season. No one knows what the 2019 season will bring, and there will be openings no one now expects.
