Best to not overreact either way. If Barrett goes 0-6 from 3 or 5-7 from 3 can we keep in perspective how unimportant these games are. If Knox shoots 5/15 it doesn’t mean he hasn’t improved over the summer

Barrett will score 23 points tonight but shoot 42% and the volume scorer crowd will come out in full force.
Def excited for this game. We get our first look at Barrett and we should have at minimum 4 players going tonight who should either start or log legit minutes. Plus our second round pick. And of course we get to see Zion.
Barrett: I just want to see the jumper and a little playmaking..
Knox: Same thing plus i want to see his positioning on defense...
Trier: more playmaking, getting others involved..
robinson: same intensity on defense, but smarter, i wsnt to see if he has learned positioning and playing a little smarter, offensively i really dont care if he can shoot 3's
RJ, Trier, Knox and Mitch all out there should be fun. Also curious to see Zion (like everyone else) - I've seen some highlights of him out there in Vegas, and, um, he looks pretty damn fat. Maybe the camera added 10 pounds.
Also curious to see the D2 pick-up - Amir Hinton. Â
RJ doesn’t bomb tonight because we will then be subjected to a new round of negative, nasty and sarcastic articles from the likes of Isola, Beck, Bondy and others.
However, it is clear SL can’t tell us too much about any one player as Knox looked like a future superstar in last year’s Summer League.

the Giants and the Knicks in the media now. I typically just try to listen to podcasts. Most of them have a more thoughtful approach to analyzing the team.

Yeah... I saw the highlights of Zion too and he definitely is not in shape in the video I saw. It looks like he has a gut.

One of BBI's more connected members gave an early but obscure "stay away" warning on Zion. I thought he was hinting that Zion might have a relish for beer.
Probably shouldn't have shared that tweet. However, it does seem like Frank is the odd man out here - pretty crowded at the guard/wing positions. I kind of wish they'd move him for his own sake - they clearly aren't big believers in him and don't prioritize his development.
Frank. With DSJ and Elf on the roster (and maybe some PG minutes for Trier) i dont think Frank is going to see the court much. So whatever value he might still have will disappear.

I'd like to see Robinson develop a post-up game, playing with his back to the basket, but I am not really expecting to see that this summer.
If they got even a second round pick for Frenchy Â

There is no need really to move him at this point unless you get a great deal.
Let's see what he has in year 3, he is not stealing minutes or a roster spot from a more talented player.
He has shown flashes and might still develop.
For Mo Bamba? I'd love that trade personally, him and Mitch would be great
Serious question: Why would Orlando trade Bamba straight up for Ntilikina? Frank's value has to be kind of low at this point, since he's shown no offensive game to speak of. Bamba had pretty uninspiring numbers as a rookie but I still think there'd have to be something else in the deal to sweeten it for Orlando, no?
Added that it will NOT be a 1-2 year deal. He's signing somewhere long-term.
Ugh that’s too bad. Was holding out hope for a 1+1 with the Raps so he gets one more shot with their core and then gets a 10 year max somewhere. I really think he’s worried about body maintenance with the Lakers since they only have 4 guys. If he’s signing somewhere long term I bet it’s the Clippers.
Last year he showed he can play well against this level of competition. That was nice but as we learned, that wasn't enough. This year I want him to show he belongs at a higher level.
last yr's kids looking like they got a jump on the group. Mitch, Zo too
Three threes is nice, good to see he's got his shot early. Trier his usual aggressive self and making plays. Great to see. I'm hoping Barrett realizes he doesn't have to try and save the franchise and just plays his game as time comes, no rush.
Haha those were the worst free throws I have seen in a long time. The one early thing on Barrett that I did not realize is he is nowhere as athletic as I thought. I had not really seen him play a lot.

Barrett and Knox are both still teenagers. I would expect both to still add more strength and explosiveness.

I realize that people are tuning in to see Williamson Â
and maybe Barrett, but the breathless swooning for Zion is a bit much. We can see how he's doing, you don't need to hype him. And it would be nice to acknowledge that the Knicks are dominating the game, and that there are other players on the floor.
But he’s silky smooth, has good size, and he can get up. I just love his footwork and touch near the rim, he’s just so advanced in the way he scores near the rim. But that outside shot needs to improve.
Blake Griffin is a comp I see for Zion often, and I’ve made it before too. But the way Zion can explosively drive to the rim from the perimeter is something Blake could never dream of. He’s gonna be so fun to watch, just praying that 285 lb frame for a 19 year old can last.
RE: Interesting to hear RJ is trying new stuff on his corner 3. Â
When you do that, you take a step back to take a two steps forward. I'm good with that.
That's fine, always start w/ the 'easier' shot / play
But they really should start from scratch (really every rook if not all players). FTs & Js in the paint. Then move out further and further. Not to say you never practice distance, but start w/ easy ones and nail down the form. It's not easy, but it's simple & repetitive to work on. The 'right way' if you will

Agreed on both
Barrett is in the NBA because of NBA skills w/ an NBA physique at 19. He's not an uber athlete, but he is plenty athletic for this level, and can ball with the best of them with his skill set
Seems like RJ is just lo key right now. As they said, there's a slew of year 2 guys taking the reigns, which is actually good in terms of just letting him acclimate vs forcing him to produce or play a certain way. He has the game for this too, IMO doesn't have to be the scorer but still provide solid value (Esp if he focus on his D). Still work to be done no doubt...
Knicks not playing team ball at all, but I guess that's summer league.
I had the same thought. Maybe at the next time out, remind them that the rules permit this thing called "passing." And there may be teammates who are "open."
foreshock. Aftershocks are not larger than the main quake
This. Even the local news people here don't seem to know that. Downgraded to 6.9, which is still pretty damn big. Considering that a 7 is 10x a 6, the difference between a 6.4 yesterday and a 6.9 today is pretty big.
RE: They are thinking about continuing after the scoreboard stops Â
And it was a little tremor a few years ago in NYC.
Can't imagine you West Coasters having to deal with it on a somewhat regular basis...and wildfires, too.
After sitting in my last house in pitch black in the middle of the night as my phone was sending off emergency signals, with the windows covered hearing winds of a hurricane (and later seeing that a tornado likely whipped down our street) I'd rather deal with an earthquake...
RE: I've only experienced one earthquake in my life Â

It's not that regular. 15 years in LA, no more than 10 that I felt? And of course those were all small. In that sense, WCers are baffled how people live in the snow, and that is an issue multiple times a year. I'd dare to say you're more likely to get in a car accident in the winter than injured in an LA quake (on avg!)
But clearly I'm about to go thru my first big one, we're due
Actually Albany had a few in the 4.0-5.0 range growing up. I felt one, but most were early AM and I slept through

Well, I've been through a few of them. A really big one is scary in its own right, but what really is unnerving is that aftershocks come almost continuously for a while. And after Northridge, I learned the worst word in the English language: "foreshock." As in, that could be a foreshock of a bigger quake. I remember yelling FORESHOCK????!!!
When they start, you don't know how big they're going to be. So you have that moment of "Oh shit, now what?" Then sometimes they get bigger, and sometimes they don't. This one started like "Oh, there's another one." And about 10 seconds later it was "Uh-oh." But it never got really bad. 100+ miles from the epicenter.
RE: RE: That's not an aftershock, the 6.4 a couple of days ago was a Â

The scary part is that this one would be a foreshock as well if another quake larger than this occurred. That's pretty unlikely, but not impossible. A 6.4 and 6.9 on consecutive days would release a LOT of built up seismic energy along the same fault system
I had fam that lived in Nevis (next to St Kitts, Antigua). They talked about boarding up the house, dealing with no power, and holing up every year, sometimes a few times

And the thing with hurricanes is that they're not exactly quick. I mean that one specifically at 3 in the morning, your sitting there for hours. Some could say "well you could have evacuated," and if we tried to go north, good luck. If we had gone west, the storm was even worse there. Hurricanes are scary shit if you get hit straight on and they're so unpredictable
The rest of the games tonight in Thomas and Mack are postponed Â
Depends on the storm and the quake, and where you are. If you are near the ocean you never want to experience anything like the Japan quake and tsunami, that's one of the worst things you could go through.
The thing about a big earthquake is there's basically no warning and there's no such thing as an earthquake shelter. Your building either stands up to it or not. Your stuff is either secured or it isn't. Your walls crack or they don't.
There's a new ShakeAlertLA app that is supposed to go off and give us a little warning if there's a big (bigger than 3) quake centered in Los Angeles. It hasn't gone off because they say that the tremors locally weren't big enough. So they say it's working. But: How would we know if it wasn't?

Add to THAT, I swear the flight from St Kitts to Nevis was in an fn Dodge Caravan w/ wings. No joke, the pilot hands me a rope, tells me to hold tight as it's attached to the door that doesn't close. So the whole flight, I see a couple inches of daylight straight down to the water. It was like a 15 min flight but I would NEVER get in that on a cloudy day, much less near a hurricane. Rather hole up in the dark in my boarded up house!
Okay, can we please get Doris and Mark off the telecast? Â
even if it's those shit emergency packs / rations, I should get a few, and some water!
We have a little bottled water in the house, but if we lose water for a few days, we're gonna be drinkin' a lotta wine. My wife likes wine, we have a bunch of it. Lots more than water.
I could care less about his shooting stats, like I mentioned earlier I always assumed he was a top notch in terms of pure athleticism and he is clearly not, does not mean he still cant be a superstar I just assumed he was a super fast athletic freak and he is def not. Reminds of Melo out of college athleticism. Certainly athletic enough, but if Lebron and Zion are a 10 when it comes to athleticism, I would put Barrett in that 6-7 range. I’m not bashing him, just was surprised by this.
I watched at least a dozen Duke games. Why some of you kept insisting that Barrett is some kind of explosive fast-twitch guy, I'll never know. His shooting certainly was exactly what I expected.
Mitch is so much fun to watch on defense. A 7'1" guy with pogo sticks for legs who genuinely loves to play D. Kenny Wooten is too, though I'm not expecting him to show enough at the other end of the floor to make it.
Knox looked pretty good. I really do think he'll take a step forward this year. Brazdekis looked just as overmatched as I expected. Really don't get that pick at all.

I sadly agree. I didn't watch a ton of him in college but he looked like a completely average player who can't shoot. I didn't see anything athletic that gives me a ton of hope, he's going to have to hone his jumper to even be an Allan Houston.
First, we find out that Barrett isn't a good shooter. Now, we learn Â
did not play well yesterday. He did get open looks though and they didn't fall. It happens. Hopefully it isn't a trend, but his stats at Duke suggest it may be.
in his first summer league game. Thank god he wasnt a knick. Could Barrett have issues sure, but to act like last night confirmed everything and thats what he is so dumb its absurd. Last night means absolutely nothing, and this is the same thing that the anti barrett crown would be preaching if he was 9 for 13 and dropped 23.
I sort of warmed up to Barrett knowing he’d be the pick. Â
But he looked slow and a bad shot yesterday. The pass to Knox was sweet though.
Even with a beer gut Zion showed short area quickness that Barrett simply doesn’t have. We know Barrett is more crafty than explosive, but he will need to be a lot more shifty to get by people in the league. And the shot needs to get a lot better.
Barrett has a good game, ehh it is only summer league Â

I don't watch a ton of b-ball, college (except the tournament) or pros. But on draft night, with all the hoopla surrounding RJ, I was expecting to see a stellar athlete, floor player, all around capable at the 2. I was shocked that I didn't see any of that on display in the highlights after the foregone conclusion pick was made.
So, uncharacteristically, I recorded last night. I didn't expect to see Quake reports! I watched most of the 1st half. And nerves or not, his clumsy attack in the paint early Q2, his shooting stroke (fair), movement (I thought slow and labored), I'm afraid the Knicks got it wrong again. Yes, of course it's a shoot from the hip after one meaningless summer game, but I just didn't see the athleticism, smoothness, or quicks from this player. smh
a lot of smart people would have to be dead wrong about this guy if he's not a legit starter in the league. Trusting the Knicks to develop him, however, is a cause for concern.
and people wonder why players do not want to come to the knicks Â
been a plus but not special athlete. What makes him a potential all star is his skill level. He gets to the rim very often where he can finish or gets fouled, and can pass and rebound at a high level.
That said, there are clear things he's going to need to fix and quickly if he wants to get better:
1. Going to the right/finishing with his right hand
2. All aspects of shooting, but especially 3pt and FT
3. Not getting tunnel vision when going to the lane.
Fortunately all three things are fixable, are not new issues, and given his rumored work ethic, should be things that will improve.
is also a hot take, but I thought Zion looked super meh yesterday. He's so limited at range that he's going to need to probably play the 4 or 5 next level. Mitch gave him quite a few problems.
Also impressed with Kevin Knox. 3 3s, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks in only 25 minutes. More importantly he looked more in control and calmer out there.
One bad game and RJ is a bust. He is not athletic, he can’t shoot and he can’t pass.
One game. Let’s disregard four years where he was the number one prospect in two countries. Let’s forget that at Duke, he averaged nearly 23 points a game, 8 rebounds and nearly 5 assists.
It’s not just the media, Knick fans are really knee jerk when it comes to their teams.
Nate Robinson was a summer league sensation as was Kevin Knox.
Carmelo Anthony shot 4 of 11 and scored 12 points in his first game and in the same game Nikoloz Tskitishvili scored 25.
Derek Rose averaged under 10 points and shot under 30% in his Summer League season.
Kevin Durant shot 5 for 17 in his Summer League debut with one rebound and zero assists. He shot 33 percent for the entire league.
Can we give the kid two Summer League games before we decide he is a bust?
To me getting to the rim scoring / finding teammates Â
You can’t really learn athleticism but the league has been full of all stars at his level of athleticism especially with the above skills. Not to mention his good size for the position he plays helps with that.
What you can learn is how to shoot better with commitment to that. And he seems to be a guy that has the right attitude to do it.
Love how he owned wanting to play in NY as well.
Don’t love this Knicks offseason, don’t hate it either. But there seems to be some talks like the Knicks are so bad that it automatically creates a future that RJ is too. I get the pessimism with luring free agents and treating our stars well but some people go to far

The best part about both these guys playing the games they did? The fact that the media is hanging onto the Zion rip from Knox and dunk, so everyone thinks Knox is a bum and Zion is a superstar already.
Impossible!

What this Hinton kid is all about. And if Wooten can be like a poor man's Ibaka
How Ellenson competes because Lord knows he'd be a better addition to the team than Lance Thomas
Last year: Burke, Timmy, Frank, Lance, Kanter
This year: Smith Jr., RJ, Knox, Randle, Mitch
That looks like progress to me, but still a long way to go.

Almost everyone we complimented ran out of gas or went cold at once
Hey there Mrs Fiz...
Barrett needs to shoot a lot better to be effective. At least he’s not shy.
What Knox needs to do once the real games start...and what disappeared mostly from his first SL stint
Knox on queue with a strong move in the paint
And a KNOX DUNK from RJ
Not many, and few at 250+ I bet
Awful game from him. There will be better ones, but poor showing from him. Same with Iggy.

That would have been classic.
yeah, she's being pretty open about that!

When they start, you don't know how big they're going to be. So you have that moment of "Oh shit, now what?" Then sometimes they get bigger, and sometimes they don't. This one started like "Oh, there's another one." And about 10 seconds later it was "Uh-oh." But it never got really bad. 100+ miles from the epicenter.

foreshock. Aftershocks are not larger than the main quake
This. Even the local news people here don't seem to know that. Downgraded to 6.9, which is still pretty damn big. Considering that a 7 is 10x a 6, the difference between a 6.4 yesterday and a 6.9 today is pretty big.
The scary part is that this one would be a foreshock as well if another quake larger than this occurred. That's pretty unlikely, but not impossible. A 6.4 and 6.9 on consecutive days would release a LOT of built up seismic energy along the same fault system
That would scare the shit out of me go figure
The thing about a big earthquake is there's basically no warning and there's no such thing as an earthquake shelter. Your building either stands up to it or not. Your stuff is either secured or it isn't. Your walls crack or they don't.
There's a new ShakeAlertLA app that is supposed to go off and give us a little warning if there's a big (bigger than 3) quake centered in Los Angeles. It hasn't gone off because they say that the tremors locally weren't big enough. So they say it's working. But: How would we know if it wasn't?

I had fam that lived in Nevis (next to St Kitts, Antigua). They talked about boarding up the house, dealing with no power, and holing up every year, sometimes a few times

Agree about that. This may be a fun season even if we end up sub-.500.
Our second round pick from Michigan, a Lithuanian guy from Canada.
Bradzeikis. Round 2 pick, from Mich. Shooter, w/ some rim attack, but not so athletic it seems

We'll see.
Im assuming we also have decided that Zion cant do anything but dunk?

No, because he's not a Knick and stupid reactionary career epitaphs are only for Knicks players.
Even with a beer gut Zion showed short area quickness that Barrett simply doesn’t have. We know Barrett is more crafty than explosive, but he will need to be a lot more shifty to get by people in the league. And the shot needs to get a lot better.

I watched at least a dozen Duke games. Why some of you kept insisting that Barrett is some kind of explosive fast-twitch guy, I'll never know. His shooting certainly was exactly what I expected.//////
I sadly agree. I didn't watch a ton of him in college but he looked like a completely average player who can't shoot. I didn't see anything athletic that gives me a ton of hope, he's going to have to hone his jumper to even be an Allan Houston.
Yes, of course it's a shoot from the hip after one meaningless summer game, but I just didn't see the athleticism, smoothness, or quicks from this player. smh
It's really just Duke haters, nets fans and people who irrationally hated the Knicks moves/decisions the past week
Seriously.
I'm off BBI and out of sports for a day, and now RJ is a bust already.
It's so easy to hate.
It’s all the fans fault! Greg tried telling you! You didn’t listen and you drafted him!
Also impressed with Kevin Knox. 3 3s, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks in only 25 minutes. More importantly he looked more in control and calmer out there.
