355 Hanover Street in the North End. For Italian, as good as it gets literally nywhere. Small and I believe does not take reservations but it's definitely worth a trip to the North End.
In the north end Giacommo is among the best, but almost always a wait, and honestly it's not worth it.
My go to is Ristorante Limoncello. Ask for the meatball appetizer and/or the ravioli appetizer. both are likely off-menu maybe they have them as a special.
best veal parm around.
Pasty shops are a big deal. Mikes, Modern, and Bovas are the best. I think Mikes and Modern are cash only. As are many North End restaurants, so be prepared.
if you want seafood, Union Oyster House has really good chowder, barking crab has a solid menu (though had some health code issues), and of course Boston is home to Legal Seafood (but you can find them anywhere).
Steaks - they have the standard - Capital Grill, Del Friscos, Ruths Chris, etc. but for local, Davio's is good, but overpriced, Moo is great.
Boston has a good china town too. Lots of pho and dim sum places, but my favorite is a malaysian place called Penang.
Avoid pizza, especially pizzeria regina which many boston-ites claim is the best. it's not. If you do want pizza my recommendations are Santarpios in East Boston (not far from Logan) or go to Chestnut Hill and go to Pepe's pizza - the new haven pizza place has expanded and now has a boston location (chestnut hill)

thanks I used to have to take clients out all the time and I worked in Cambridge so we'd go all over Boston (on the company dime). It's been a while so some things are probably dated.
North end though is hard to go wrong, so many good places.

I agree. Penang was goos when I worked in Chinatown 07-10
on Boylston. Neptune Oyster in North End. For italian in the north end-Benvenutos, Strega, Bricco are a few good ones. Again, hard to go wrong in the north end. Be prepared, it is very congested. Modern bakery. Worth the wait on line. Pastries are excellent and very reasonably priced. Great selection as well.
so far. Lived here since 12 and the advice is spot on.
deuxave is great for french. cragie on main. area four, oleana in cambridge are fantastic as well. don’t know if you plan on or care to cross the river but the real food scene right now is there. Boston food scene has improved greatly in last decade.

And Ocean Prime for steaks.
Enjoy!!
Enjoy!
LOTS of good restaurant choices in Boston. agree with everything so far on this thread.
Will add that you should go to the North End to walk around on a summer evening just for the atmosphere. Can't go wrong there.
Eastern Standard for oysters is always good.
Union Oyster house is a historic restaurant, the oldest in Boston. Worth stopping in there.
