Which one. Vehicle will be purchased in the next 2 weeks.
9 is 4 more than 5

.
The 9 is bigger,

otherwise they look quite similar. Daughter has a CX-5. Pretty nice car, but really only a 4 person car despite it's size.
I have a CX-9

Love it. This one is simple - if you need a bigger car, you get the 9. Seats 7, eats up gas. If you can get by with smaller, go with the 5.
Depends on what you want/need

Both cars are great.
It’s two different different size vehicles

They’re not comparable.
My friends with 2 kids took back their 5

For a 9. Love the 9 and the extra space. It’s a nice car
We have a CX-9 and have loved it

It's a 2013, so the last body style and not the current one, but we've been very happy with it. Very comfortable and roomy. Easy to fold the third seats up and down. As jcn said, though, it does tear through some gas. Ours generally gets around 19 mpg even with a lot of highway miles.
CX-5

Have had a CX-5 for two years. Very happy with it. AWD and I commute a 100 miles in northern VT every day. Have not had any issues.

Holds 4 people comfortably. If you don't need more space then I would go with the CX-5. Rear seats fold down flat so you can put a large amount of stuff in the back if needed.

Has a 2013 CX9 fully loaded. Great car with two kids. I enjoy driving it when with the family, very smooth ride
The new CX-5

has the 2.5L Turbo in it as well as an option. If you can swing that, go for it. It takes it from a reliable crossover to a performance vehicle rivaling german cars costing 20k more.
It all depends on what you need it for obviously

If you have a couple of kids then go with the CX-9. If you're getting it for your kid then I suggest the 5.

We are leasing the 2018 CX-9 and my wife loves it. We have two kids ages 4 and 7 so we obviously needed the bigger vehicle. We previously leased a CX-7 but they discontinued the model.
My issue with the CX-5
ColHowPepper : 7/6/2019 3:47 pm : link
was that it is underpowered, based on test drives late 2018. I like escapability in any vehicle I drive (wife is different), and I found its responsiveness and more importantly torque lagged.
Okay

Thanks for the feedback.

Wife has a cx5, the automatic tech features (wipers, high beams, lane departure, etc) work better than my Acura. Drive and power are adequate. Cx5 is a fantastic bang-for-buck vehicle.
I didn’t like the cx9 as much because the huge center console made it feel more cramped as opposed to other large suvs.
I have my 2015 CX-5

I really love it. Got the 2.5L engine which makes a big difference on the highway IMO. The gas mileage goes down a bit in the city with the bigger engine but overall I am very happy. I average between 500 and 700 KM's per tank depending on how much city driving I do.

I got the two wheel drive as the AWD was said to experience issues with the 2015 and 2016 models. Even with the 2 wheel drive it dtill works very well during Montreal's winters. I have heard that the newer models AWD is not an issue anymore.

Lots of room. Seats the 4 comfortably and 5 on short trips is OK as well.
