NFT: Knicks fans: Russell Westbrook.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 7/6/2019 7:56 pm
On a scale of 1 being 'I'm rioting' to 10 being 'I renounce my fandom', where does a Russ Knicks trade rank for you? Dude is 30, 31 in November. His contract is God awful. The only reason I bring this nightmare scenario up is because I listened to Lowe/Woj & Simmons' pods earlier & Knicks were talked about as possible destination, along with Orlando and Miami. Miami seemed to be the consensus favorite thankfully. I just hope Mills & Perry don't feel the need to do anything drastic after missing out on the A list FAs.

Also, it seems like a given Westbrook will be traded before the season.
If I am to believe what I'm reading, no such trade is possible
81_Great_Dane : 7/6/2019 7:59 pm : link
until mid-season. Barrett straight up for Westbrook? Can't be done until Barrett's been under contract for 30 days. Cap room to fit him on the Knicks? The guys they signed in the last couple of weeks can be traded mid-season to clear cap space, but not until then.

Personally, I oppose trading for Westbrook, because he's not the guy I want leading the young prospects and by the time the Knicks are any good, he'll be fading.

But maybe by mid-season things will look different all around.

possible reason to get Westbrook at this point is if you think he can bring along another star next year or the year after. That seems very unlikely though.
Westbrook?

I renounced my Knicks fandom years ago which had brought about two sentiments:

(1) Sheer happiness;
(2) Utter bewilderment that anyone would give two shits about this team.
only way i am doing it
nygiants16 : 7/6/2019 8:05 pm : link
is if it is for a couple of these big expirings and maybe a pick and the knicks cam keep their young core...

otherwise no thank you
Don’t see how it’s possible logistically.
bceagle05 : 7/6/2019 8:09 pm : link
We can’t trade our new free agents until Dec. 15 (or thereabouts), so it would have to be done in-season. I’d rather target Beal if we’re looking for trades - we desperately need shooting.
If they were going to panic, why would they panic almost a week after
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/6/2019 8:10 pm : link
The initial disappointment. They're not trading for Westbrook and they shouldn't.
Westbrook and Butler....
bceagle05 : 7/6/2019 8:13 pm : link
Now that’s quite a pair of personalities.

they had an auction, one of the items was a autographed Carmelo Anthony Knicks jersey. Said it was a $500 value, bidding started at $150, after several awkward calls the jersey sold for $30
No
TommyWiseau : 7/6/2019 8:38 pm : link
Way, don't want him. Go with the young guns
No interest in Westbrook
GMEN46 : 7/6/2019 8:51 pm : link
And I am also happy they already signed these guys so they can trade for him. Definitely heading to Miami

True die hard fans stick with their team.

And yet you feel the need to open , read and comment on this thread. You're a poser.
No interest from me
moespree : 7/6/2019 9:35 pm : link
He'd love to come to the Knicks though. He'd be able to shoot 50 times and no one would even question it. Dream come true for him.
No to Russ
ChaChing : 7/6/2019 10:04 pm : link
As I said to a buddy this would be so old Knicksian. But hopefully an easy one for this FO

<fingers crossed>
Why would anyone want RW

Seriously.... Russ is about Russ. Always has been and always will be.
Hard pass

Look at the insane trade prices people are paying, beyond the non-stop ball hogery we’ve witnessed since trading for Starbury.

Phil gets it.
This trade wouldn't make sense for the Knicks, who are rebuilding themselves. If you're OKC, and you've decided to rebuild, your best bet to find a high bidder for a valuable asset like Westbrook isn't another rebuilding team, it's a team that thinks it can jump into contention with him. No idea who that is. Toronto seems to have some cap space...

If you find yourself posting on Knicks threads (or even really if you find yourself reading them), you haven't actually renounced your Knicks fandom.
No way
Oscar : 7/7/2019 6:53 am : link
He is declining rapidly and has a monster contract. The Knicks would not win anything with him and would have to give up a lot to get him. It would be a classic Knicks mistake and would reset the clock on a rebuild by another four years.

I won’t ever drop the team but this would seriously reduce my interest in watching the Knicks. It would be an absolute disaster.
Wow. That contract is ginormous!

Still a hofer but I don’t get the point of autographs anyway. It’s a dudes signature how is there value to that. The jersey itself is worth at least 40.
Seems like the new knicks are taking the chip on their shoulder
nygiants16 : 7/7/2019 9:51 am : link
approach to this season, bobby portis said he knew durant and kyrie were going to brooklyn in february, also said when they met knicks pushed us against the world mentality..

Julius Randle said they are going to play bully ball, they are not going to be pushed around..

Dennis Smith basically said he could careless what is going on in brooklyn..

I said this before
nygiants16 : 7/7/2019 9:51 am : link
i want brooklyn opening night at the garde ..
I wouldn't take even
Enzo : 7/7/2019 10:07 am : link
him as a straight salary cap dump. Even at his peak, he was a tough guy to build a team around. Now that his decline has seemingly already begun while his contract starts to get insane....I would avoid.
That would be a classic Knicks move
Jay on the Island : 7/7/2019 10:12 am : link
along the lines of Marbury and Stoudemire. There is no point in bringing him in at this point.
Music to my ears.
bceagle05 : 7/7/2019 10:23 am : link
Might as well win the fights. First guy who needs to be knocked into the fifth row is DeAndre Jordan.
I love Westbrook
UConn4523 : 7/7/2019 10:25 am : link
by yeah that contract makes it too difficult to pursue. You’d only do that if it guaranteed you another MVP caliber player along with him and it won’t, at least not in 2019.

I thought that’s why they signed Portis, for his mean right hook ;-)
I'm really

curious about what Jordan thought about his time with the Knicks. Highly doubt he had a say in Knicks vs Nets but I am curious.

He apparently liked it here but who really knows

Westbrook is a great individual talent but he just does not elevate the guys around him like a Curry or Lebron.

If the trade were something like Randle and Portis for Westbrook. Maybe you consider it. But it is definitely not a move towards building a championship team.

No way in the world do you give up Barrett.
Giving up assets for a 31 yr old
Section331 : 7/8/2019 8:40 am : link
ball dominant guard who can't shoot on a bad contract would be an Isiah Thomas move. Anyone even thinking of trading Barrett for him should be fired on the spot. I wouldn't give up Randle either, he's 24 and a very good offensive player. Teach him how to at least stay in front of his guy on D and he's a nice piece.

Rather than sign a bunch of stiffs, the Knicks should have used their cap to get assets for taking on bad contracts. Take Steven Adams, for example. His contract is awful, but he's still a good player, so you take 2 years, and some picks to eat his deal, and you're still in business for 2021.
I don't think it's on the table...
Jan in DC : 7/8/2019 8:50 am : link
I just wished we hadn't signed some of these contracts. I have no problem with the Randle contract but these others... feel like you could have waited it out and seen about some trade opportunities.

I know it's just 2 summer league games, but RJ is looking like he needs to be coached up. Wonder if he's nervous or just tight.
I don't even like Barrett
Greg from LI : 7/8/2019 8:57 am : link
And I'd still never trade him for Russell Westbrook. What would be the point of that?
Westbrook
JohnG in Albany : 7/8/2019 8:59 am : link
A thousand times no.
Considering OKC will want something for him
adamg : 7/8/2019 10:19 am : link
This is a non-starter.
Literally can't trade for him for months.
Heisenberg : 7/8/2019 10:21 am : link
And I wouldn't renounce my fandom because I tried and can't. I'd be disappointed and then enjoy some cool triple doubles and second round playoff exits, I guess.
second round exits.....those are some lofty heights

Knicks fans dare not dream of such things

Heh, it's sad how much of an improvement that would be over the last 20 years of Knicks' teams.
Russ is a great player..
Italianju : 7/8/2019 10:43 am : link
but he is so ball dominant that he cant coexist with anyone. Add in the fact that he will be 31 most of next season and his contract is massive and i cant believe he would make any sense for the knicks.

Not the star we should be looking to build around at this point, especially not for legit pieces like Barrett(hopefully) or Mitch.
Could indicate Dolan's influence
haper : 7/8/2019 11:08 am : link
imo, this is where in the past Dolan would jump in a push hard to sign someone like Westbrook. If the Knicks pass on him I'm taking it as a positive that Dolan is truly staying out of things and allowing the 'basketball ppl' to make decisions, similar to how he runs the Rangers. But he does have to get better at picking the 'basketball ppl', but that's a different discussion.

Probably wishful thinking on my part, but there really isn't much else for Kick fans.
no interest whatsoever

not even if OKC ate half his salary.
