In 50 games with the RailRiders, Breyvic Valera batted .348/.419/.564 (151 wRC+) with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 31 RBIs. He walked more times (19) than he struck out (18). Had 17 multi-hit games.
I live 40 miles from Disney. Heat is a way of life but us northerners never get used to it, though you probably get your share in Charlotte. At Disney, there is little relief from the sun.

Damn, I live down here and trips to Disney are exhausting and in the summer you need to take a break after lunch and go back around 4 pm...you cannot drink enough water.
Oh, and welcome back!
3 or 4 years ago we took the kids there in August. It was like Hades on earth.
Game is on the MLB Network at 7 pm tonight.

Raleigh not Charlotte but yep we get swamp ass down here as well.
We went to the water parks in the morning/early afternoon and then the other parks later in the afternoon
Only way to handle the heat. Almost exactly the way we did it. That pool at the hotel is a God send.
Quote:
We would go to the parks early in the AM...eat lunch around 11 to beat the crowds, and then about 1 or 2 we would go back to the hotel for pool and/or a nap and then go back in the evening.

Another way to do it. But the lines, the Sun straight up, the Brazilians, the Asians - need relief from it all.

Luis Gil at #3. That was a nightmare trade for the Twins. Gil was a 19 year old IFA who sat 92mph and had missed all of 2016. They liked Jake Cave and were willing to trade a lottery card in Gil to get him. Cave looks to be a AAAA OFer. Great numbers at AA and AAA. Can't do anything in the majors. Gil then went from sitting 92mph to now sitting 98mph with the Yankees and touching 101. His curveball is a spin rate juggernaut and his change has gotten a lot better. He has been he best pitcher in the SAL league and leads the league in ERA and Ks.
The Yankees have a ridiculous amount of talented young pitchers from Latin American in their system but Gil might end up being the best.
22 years old and will be off tomorrow play two innings Tuesday off Wednesday and Thursday. Much needed rest lol.
And how does a player, 27 y/o, who has played baseball his entire life not know how he has to cover 2nd base, since you know, he is the 2nd base man. Why would you go to 1st base?
And, WTF is he up and Estrada is not?
Nicely called. The old man and "smallest' Yankee keeps mashing.
Well maybe Pinnacle....hard as a rock - goes far.
It's unreal how these umps won't adjust "their" strike zones for a guy who's 6'7". We saw one ump earlier this week who did but he's been the only one I can remember all year who did.
It's supposed to be the batters strike zone not the umps, and I'm all in to bring on the electronic strike zone. So tired of these guys being incompetent.
Morton was fantastic in Houston.
pass the beer-nuts.
It worked...They got some solid wood on Morton, but could not complete the deal.
As Paxton gives up another leadoff hit.
Now touch up this Rays pen...
This is the one game he probably should not have pulled so many starters with the AS break coming. And why they would bring up Valera (who at this point has cost them the game) instead of Estrada.
Yeah I've been very disappointed by the at-bats in yesterday and today.
Why do you gift a game to the Rays when you had a foot on their throat?
Hope someone asks him about Valera being up.
Gary might need a break from the All Star game.
That blown third strike instead of a walk to Judge may very well have cost them the game.
...no win.
Oh, well.
A split would have been fine before the series started.
But after winning the first two?
Not so fine.
Where was Torres?
WHere was DJ?
Boonie pulls a boner.
35 y/o Brett Gardner who was signed as a backup for this year has played more games than anyone else - 83. Torres is 2nd with 80 or 81.

Haha, that's funny. Oh well. Glad Torres got his day of rest before the Break.
You cant enjoy our tear despite the injuries and also hate when a less than ideal lineup is trotted out to give players rest. The Yankees dont want their stars, even the young ones, playing much more than 150 games. Thats not even taking into account the injuries that are played through where extra rest is needed.
The complaining is more than occasional when we aren't winning. It seems occasional cause we've been mostly winning.
It is tiresome. At this point I still value the comments by many of the posters that add real substance and I would hate to give that up.
BTW, last winter I complained about the recent practice of a single Rangers thread that accumulated numerous games and made reading unwieldy.
I was reminded that a hockey season has many more games than a football season.
Didn't think that was a good argument then, and think it less so inlight of baseball.

It really is ridiculous. If I were a Mets fan I would loathe some of these Yankees fans' expectation of a 162-0 season.
Doesnt bother me, just kinda baffles me that people keep questioning it amidst the first half the Yankees just had, a year after winning 100 games applying the same methods.
Their data is better than yours (the fans), Im going to side with that. This isnt trusting the Yankees on a whim, theyve implemented a winning model with the goal of being sustainable each and every year and so far its working. The goal is to get to the playoffs healthy, this increases those odds.
Very little light, but a lot of heat.

Because while we get all that, today didn't seem like the smartest day to go analytics,IMO. We have the AS Game coming up for rest and if they weren't playing their closest division rival, I wouldn't have a problem with the lineup.
We had TB on the ropes with a chance to put our feet squarely on their throats. Today was a two game swing and I think we should be putting our best out there when playing our closest division competitors. Save the rest for games not against TB or the Sox.
We really dont have much info to go off of. Im sure theres a very real and deliberate reason for the lineup.
Works quickly. Seems very poised.
Following his appearance, he was just notified by the Yankees to fly to Scranton after the Futures Game.
Deivi Garcia will who turned 20 on May 19th, will now be they youngest player in AAA ball.
Congrats !!

UConn, they are still getting hurt even with the extra rest. I'm not against resting players. It is a very good idea. They have won more than they lost with the diminshed lineup. But when the players are getting multiple days off, there is really no urgency to rest a player today. I did not like gifting a game to the Rays.
But my biggest issue is bringing up Valera instead of Estrada. And the dumbass covered the wrong base. That allowed a runner to advance to the base he was supposed to be covering. It is a play about every freakin' Little Leaguer and certainly Babe Ruth League and HS player knows that either the SS or 2nd baseman covers 2nd base depending on which one becomes the cutoff man. He is 27 years old. Been a pro for years. He allowed the Rays player to take 2nd and that runner scored the winning run.

Great news about Scranton. This kid has special written all over him. Love to watch him pitch.
Ive never been one to nitpick the day to day of baseball operations, seems utterly pointless. Ill question/debate macro level moves like trading for Stanton, not making a big play for Machado/Harper, bringing back Happ, etc. but daily lineups is just a waste of time and isnt backed by any actual data that a fan could possess.

No doubt there's a lot of merit to what you're saying and given how well they've done in this and last regular season, I can't really argue with their approach.
However, while there probably was a very real and deliberate reason for today's lineup, I have a hard time thinking one of those reasons was this was our best chance of winning today vs the Rays.
Personally, I'd just rather they go for it as much as possible vs their closest Divison opponents and use the rest against other teams. I think we gave TB a bit of life going into the break when we had the chance to keep them down.

I get it, and I agree. But I think series circumstances were alittle different. It's the team that's in 2nd place behind us in the division, and we had a chance to step on their throat and create more seperation from 1st place to 2nd place.
If it was just come random series against the White Sox or something, I don't think anyone would care at all. This though, was alittle different.
Either way, it's not a big deal. Still split the series but alittle more distance would've been nice. Oh well. No biggie.
Kirby Yates? You have a contending team? Otherwise that would seem like a no brainer. Franco is going to be a star and each could be in the majors at some point next season Deivi is shooting up prospect rankings
Admittedly Im not experienced in dynasty fantasy baseball

No shit I am a fan. Very good that I am not the GM. I can also see that the rest is a great idea, but be smart. No reason to denude the team completely.
The season is made up of day to day decisions. Why would you gift a game to the Rays. I give Boone credit because they have won more of these games then they have lost. I just really think the Valera decision was unnecessary.
Deivi - ( New Window )
Very smooth effortless delivery.
Hard to believe he isnt top 20 or top 30 with his stuff right now.

The fan reactions are strange because they seemingly act as if Boone single-handedly loses games while the team wins them. It was that way with Girardi and the snarky comments about binders.
When we lose yesterday, it isn't because there were some terrible at bats - it was because of the lineup. When we lose after the bullpen surrenders a lead, most of the comments complain that the starter was pulled or that Boone picked the wrong reliever.
To hear some people post on these threads, the Yankees are undefeated if it weren't for Boone's influence.

This came up in the last Kiley McDaniel chat and he said Garcia wasn't higher because of his size.
Definitely didn't follow the prospect rankings as closely then.
Just kind of wondering more philosophically what level of stuff gets you beyond frame concerns.
Yeah Greg is 100% right. Flash and Kenny were talking about it during the game yesterday. Also love Flash relaying that yesterday Pedro was in the lockeroom before the game doing the game for TBS and he came up to Flash to shake his hand and Flash said it was awkward because he still doesn't like Pedro for throwing at people so much. I loved it. Kenny was like "You may need to seek some help for that". So happy Kenny came back this season. He is great. I love his old Earl Weaver stories.

not as a GM/Manager who has countless factors that go into each and every lineup. I couldnt tell you why he went with scalers, but do you think he just woke up and felt like it? And be mad at Valera for his fuckup, not Boone.

We are fans. We wouldn't be on BBI bitching if we weren't fans. Fans bitch and moan. Nobody would be here if it wasn't to talk about the game and complain about something. You compare your ideas with other fans. Sometimes you are right, lots of time (well many times) you are wrong. So people bitching about people bitching(really questioning and discussing) is just what fans do.
I really don't Cashman or Boone give a shit what we think.
Anytime a reliever gives up a lead it is because Boone brought the guy in too soon. If the starter gives up the lead it is because Boone left the starter in too long.
I don't think being a fan and not wanting to sound like a complete jacknut have to be mutually exclusive.

Because someone thinks Boone fucked up doesn't make him/her a jacknut(repetitive posts throughout a thread probably does). Boone's pretty good at what he does(better than most give him credit for, including me but I'm coming around). He does take chances leaving guys in too long, but he needs to stretch guys out and let them work out of jams so they know how to do it. I think he is correct to rest players. Just wish he wouldn't take two or three prime movers out at the same time.
But in the end, fans complain about management and players.
