This is the one game he probably should not have pulled so many starters with the AS break coming. And why they would bring up Valera (who at this point has cost them the game) instead of Estrada.

Why do you gift a game to the Rays when you had a foot on their throat?

Hope someone asks him about Valera being up.

Gary might need a break from the All Star game.

That blown third strike instead of a walk to Judge may very well have cost them the game.
Great job

of not having DJ and Torres in the lineup...and the surging Sanchez and The Parakeet keep up their hotless hitting..
Yea Boone treating this like a ST game

With that lineup including pulling Valera off the Giants reject wagon was mind boggling especially with 4 days off coming up. Even the all star position guys give me a break. They're gonna fly to Cleveland hang out and play a few innings tuesday.

Thank God 22 year old Gleyber Torres got a day...

Not so fine.

Why do you guys complain about the lineup
UConn4523 : 7/7/2019 4:35 pm : link
and why do you only blame Boone when doing so? The team you root for has its own philosophy on prepping for 162. It’s going to be the same next year and the year after. Time to simply accept it.

You can’t enjoy our tear despite the injuries and also hate when a less than ideal lineup is trotted out to give players rest. The Yankees don’t want their stars, even the young ones, playing much more than 150 games. That’s not even taking into account the injuries that are played through where extra rest is needed.
Because sometimes it's a tad ridiculous

The complaining is more than occasional when we aren't winning. It seems occasional cause we've been mostly winning.

It is tiresome. At this point I still value the comments by many of the posters that add real substance and I would hate to give that up.

BTW, last winter I complained about the recent practice of a single Rangers thread that accumulated numerous games and made reading unwieldy.

I was reminded that a hockey season has many more games than a football season.

Didn't think that was a good argument then, and think it less so inlight of baseball.

It really is ridiculous. If I were a Mets fan I would loathe some of these Yankees fans' expectation of a 162-0 season.

Doesn’t bother me, just kinda baffles me that people keep questioning it amidst the first half the Yankees just had, a year after winning 100 games applying the same methods.

Their data is better than yours (the fans), I’m going to side with that. This isn’t trusting the Yankees on a whim, they’ve implemented a winning model with the goal of being sustainable each and every year and so far it’s working. The goal is to get to the playoffs healthy, this increases those odds.

Because while we get all that, today didn't seem like the smartest day to go analytics,IMO. We have the AS Game coming up for rest and if they weren't playing their closest division rival, I wouldn't have a problem with the lineup.

We had TB on the ropes with a chance to put our feet squarely on their throats. Today was a two game swing and I think we should be putting our best out there when playing our closest division competitors. Save the rest for games not against TB or the Sox.
Certainly fine if you think that
UConn4523 : 7/7/2019 7:07 pm : link
but I’m still defaulting to an additional day off for guys even with the ASB. You don’t know what injuries are nagging, and getting that 4th or 5th day off can be the difference between a strain here or there turning into a sprain. The Yankees are also looking at who else can step up and be a viable backup for the 2nd half of the season.

We really don’t have much info to go off of. I’m sure there’s a very real and deliberate reason for the lineup.

Great 1st inning for Garcia.

Following his appearance, he was just notified by the Yankees to fly to Scranton after the Futures Game.

Deivi Garcia will who turned 20 on May 19th, will now be they youngest player in AAA ball.

Congrats !!

UConn, they are still getting hurt even with the extra rest. I'm not against resting players. It is a very good idea. They have won more than they lost with the diminshed lineup. But when the players are getting multiple days off, there is really no urgency to rest a player today. I did not like gifting a game to the Rays.

But my biggest issue is bringing up Valera instead of Estrada. And the dumbass covered the wrong base. That allowed a runner to advance to the base he was supposed to be covering. It is a play about every freakin' Little Leaguer and certainly Babe Ruth League and HS player knows that either the SS or 2nd baseman covers 2nd base depending on which one becomes the cutoff man. He is 27 years old. Been a pro for years. He allowed the Rays player to take 2nd and that runner scored the winning run.

not as a GM/Manager who has countless factors that go into each and every lineup. I couldn’t tell you why he went with scalers, but do you think he just woke up and felt like it? And be mad at Valera for his fuckup, not Boone.

I’ve never been one to nitpick the day to day of baseball operations, seems utterly pointless. I’ll question/debate macro level moves like trading for Stanton, not making a big play for Machado/Harper, bringing back Happ, etc. but daily lineups is just a waste of time and isn’t backed by any actual data that a fan could possess.

No doubt there's a lot of merit to what you're saying and given how well they've done in this and last regular season, I can't really argue with their approach.

However, while there probably was a very real and deliberate reason for today's lineup, I have a hard time thinking one of those reasons was this was our best chance of winning today vs the Rays.

Personally, I'd just rather they go for it as much as possible vs their closest Divison opponents and use the rest against other teams. I think we gave TB a bit of life going into the break when we had the chance to keep them down.
Deivi sure has been promoted aggressively this season
RasputinPrime : 7/7/2019 9:06 pm : link
we don't see that very often. I wonder why they are intent on getting him to AAA this season when it would be shock to see him up with the big club before next year at the earliest.

I get it, and I agree. But I think series circumstances were alittle different. It's the team that's in 2nd place behind us in the division, and we had a chance to step on their throat and create more seperation from 1st place to 2nd place.

If it was just come random series against the White Sox or something, I don't think anyone would care at all. This though, was alittle different.

Either way, it's not a big deal. Still split the series but alittle more distance would've been nice. Oh well. No biggie.

No shit I am a fan. Very good that I am not the GM. I can also see that the rest is a great idea, but be smart. No reason to denude the team completely.
The season is made up of day to day decisions. Why would you gift a game to the Rays. I give Boone credit because they have won more of these games then they have lost. I just really think the Valera decision was unnecessary.
