One of my soon to be ex-friends insists its "100 times better" than the Beatles original. Should I delete his contact info now and pretend he's dead to me or just play this off as a moment of temporary insanity and ignore?

Off the shout at the devil album and I liked it because it was heavier. And I was 19 at the time and that all I pretty much cared about ( the harder the better)
Thrash metal was gaining steam at this time
But if u look back when the Beatles wrote the song it’s actually a harder version if u consider the time period

The MC cover isn't bad per se but the thing about the original it and the other covers are missing are the minor details that make it so great...the backing vocals, the extra slightly out of tune guitars grinding away in the back of the mix, the fade out fade back in with the eerie trumpets playing random noises and finally Ringo's scream at the end. You just can't duplicate that.
every time I hear a cover of Helter Skelter it sounds like someone covering someone else's song.
I liked the Motley Crue version because as a youth I was a big Motley Crue fan and Shout at the Devil was almost on par with Appetite for Destruction for me, but no the Crue version is not close.
I might even give the U2 version a nod ahead of Motley Crue.
All those are distantly behind the Beatles version and I'm not a big Beatles fan.

Nah,I'm convinced my bud just says things sometimes just to be a contrarian. I'm not sure he ever even listened to the original start to finish
The Husker Du version is the best cover of the song.
I just looked it up and listened and made it to the 45 second mark before bailing. What was up with that off-time drum beat?
You are wrong wrong-ity wrong.

Aerosmith’s Come Together is a cover I like better than the original.
Me too. Billy Preston's funky cover of Get Back (also from the infamous Sgt Pepper movie soundtrack) is better than the original too.
Earth Wind and Fire had a #1 hit with their Got To Get You Into My Life also from that movie
interviewed Vince Neil about football and the Super Bowl. Huge fucking football fan. Nice guy to talk to for an hour too. And at the time I didn't care about his music. I like it a bit now.

Terrible movie. With a pretty great sound track.
Yes. It was the epitome of '70s cheese and drug induced bad ideas. Just like KISS's Phantom Of The Park
.You watch it wondering how anyone could've thought it was a good idea
The Husker Du version is the best cover of the song.
Husker Du is one of my all time favorite bands, I've seen them and subsequently Bob Mould dozens and dozens of times. That being said, that may be the worst thing they've ever done. The drumming is um... peculiar and Grant Hart's vocals are a mess. Just my 2 cents.
And oh yeah, that MC cover is a train wreck. Never speak to that "friend" again

I can't, we've known each other for a long time.
Lets just say we have different opinions on music and what's good and what's not
(Example: He once texted me saying he just heard Rush's The Big Money and doesn't get why people (like me) love the band so much)
of Helter Skelter is ok but come on - the Crue at their best doesn't belong in the same ballpark as Sir Paul. And I love Motley. To me it's the weakest track on Shout at the Devil - which is a fucking classic.
...was lightning in a bottle. It was a shocker - as creative as the Beatles had been at that point, this was a complete departure, LOUD, LOOSE, EXPLOSIVE and catchy as hell. I love the textures, I love the slapback on McCartney's vocal, the crappy sounding throbbing bassline laid down by Lennon, Ringo's drum fills as timely and perfect as ever. One of my favorites.
Many have covered it. Many have done a good job with it, but you can't touch the original.
Beatles and McCartney never repeated it themselves, though Sir Paul with Grohl and Krist Novoselik recorded 'Cut Me Some Slack' - that had a very similar sound.

Guys, I've done a little work here to translate almost up through the first chorus. After consulting a few linguistic experts and an anthropologist in ancient asian oral traditions I have produced the following.I did not translate the sections in vietnamese because, well, he's says some heavy stuff. Here's the balance of the first verse:
White!
two broke kids
Channel as wood
Beans on top of wood
Got a ticket buy a train
Cant hire Hank
…But I would
Saw Vita raw gaga here
Do it, Jay!
Ursula y’all, the bitch can mop
She has to do that again (pronounced ‘agayne’ because he’s speaking proper Patrician English)
[switches to Vietnamese ]
she's too sweet on (he meant to say 'to' ,not 'on') people on the street

Did you ever hear the Bee Gee's cover of A Day In The Life?
It's also pretty good

I think UKJ added anger/emotion in there to hammer home the neglect and what that did to his son, and that realization hitting him hard.
Crue's cover of Helter Skelter is decent. Not easy covering the Beatles.
OMG... the video itself is a hilarious comedy.... but the comments..... Bwahahahahaha
