NFT: Kia Telluride vs VW Atlas

Burt64 : 7/8/2019 11:29 am
Looking to move on from my 2015 GMC Acadia as the new version is a quite bit smaller for my Family of 4. We travel a lot and need the cargo space and at this point don't want to go full Suburban or Yukon/Tahoe.

Anyone know or have any experience with the Kia Telluride or Volkswagen Atlas? I've never had a Kia or VW but both caught my eye on the road.

any insight into either would be helpful....

Thank you in advance.

recently had our 2nd child and needed a 2nd car. We ended up leasing a Tiguan and will be going back at end of summer to discuss the Atlas options. The Mrs loves the space, dashboard features and ability to have car seats in the second row and be able to lift the seat for 3rd row access. My biggest knock is that the base models do not come with basic features other cars do, so you have to spend more to get the equivalent. For instance, we have a 2016 Explorer XLT w/ Sport package, includes Nav, BLISS, rear camera, sensors, etc...the wife likes these options for the family car. To get the same package in the Atlas, we have to get the SEL Platinum or something along those lines and its well over $50k. The Explorer is $10-12k less for the same package
I researched the Atlas and the Telluride

but ultimately I liked the Subaru Ascent. They are all really close but the turbo 4cyl in the ascent felt just as good as the v6 in the Atlas and way better on gas. Plus its a Subaru so reliability is a factor.

Don't mean to add another car to your list but I just looked at the Hyundai palasade yesterday and they are nice also. I didn't get to drive it but I'm torn between that and the Kia.

the ascent is a nice car also. My wife has one and it's been very reliable. I still think the turbo v4 lacks power though, I can def tell the difference from driving my car and hers.
Never tried either

But recently rented a Kia Sorento. Actually had a nice ride, but being a rental car it felt underpowered. Was able to fit behind the second row 4 large suitcases and a couple of smaller bags. 4 adults fit very comfortably.
My buddy has an Atlas

and loves it. He previously had a Land Rover, so he likes Euro stuff anyway even if he works for a Ford dealer part time.
I test drive a Telluride recently.

They're beautiful looking on the inside and handle surprisingly well. When compared to the Atlas, the two are so similar across the board (handling, price, fuel economy) that it'll probably just come down to looks. The KIA has a little more "futuristic/busy" interior while the VW is more "clean/minimalist" IMO.

The wife and I are looking at the loaded version of the Telluride which comes in at just under 50K. And being that my current vehicle is a 2006 4Runner, almost everything that the Telluride offers is a new luxury haha.

We're going the captain seat route being that we have two young kids.
i just leased the Telluride

liked it so far when i had it, but i probably should have waited til i moved to suburbia. I live in JC and park on the street and some idio clipped my bumper while parked and the bumper came off and the radiator cap broke. 2nd car that got hit on the street in 1 month timeframe. been having some bad luck but shouldnt really deter you. I got the sport model
I have the 2019 Atlas

we got it mostly because the third row is a row adults can sit in and not feel squished.

The car drives great, but the pickup is a little sluggish, but then again, it is a beast of a car.

I've enjoyed it (got a Jetta too, and love that one).

The value is beyond approach as you get a lot for your money with the VW (guess trying to make back gains from the scandals).
