My wife and I are looking into getting a new, larger fridge. The one we currently have is cramped and is becoming more of a pain to have things easily placed. My daughter has several food allergies so we try to keep a section of the fridge with just her stuff to make it easier when we need someone to watch her.
With all that being said, I have been looking at Samsung lineup, especially with being able to do 0% financing over 24 months with the Best Buy card. We have been primarily looking at the French door style with the two drawers underneath. Does anyone have any experience with Samsung brand? Are the in line with some of "top" consumer brands, ie Frigidaire, GE, etc.
Thanks in advance.
Jk
All depends on what you like in terms of style. Look online at models then research them at consumer reports.com
We downsized to a counter depth fridge because shit would disappear in the back - I'd clean the fridge and find like 3 jars of pickles. Also, inevitably a jar of whatever is fucking stickiest would be tipped in a pool. >:(
Counter depth much easier to maintain and clean. We've got a second fridge to handle our gallon-of-milk-per-day household.

Then he showed me the problems. A shoddy design for the flapper that lets ice out but does not seal and lets warm air in. No caulk around any of the seams where the ice maker snaps together, again allowing warmer air into the ice unit. We were fortunate in that the auger didn't burn out as it was a block of solid ice. The reason being that when it quit I didn't try to run it.
The replacement kit and his time would have been in excess of $400. Best $25 we ever spent. He had the repair done in less than an hour. And he said they just keep coming...every day he is doing the same repair to 5-6 other Samsung refrigerators.
I opted instead for an LG. They don’t have as extensive a network as longtime US brands like Whirlpool, but it’s much bigger than samsung’s. I got a unit with the French doors, a freezer drawer below, and a refrigerator drawer in the middle with its own temperature control. Hasn’t been long, but happy so far. A lot of neat features.
I've looked at the LG models as well, those look nice. There was a Samsung I really liked because you could have the water coming out be flavored. I linked it here.
As far as the Samsung ones go, I thought I have heard about some issues regarding their major appliances but wasn't quite sure.

We have an LG and just had major repair done on it last year and it needs another $400 repair. Had it 10 years. The refrigerator we had before this one lasted over 20 years.
I'd get a Samsung, and I'd pick the model based on the freezer/fridge layout that I thought fit my lifestyle. I like the freezer on the bottom with two fridge doors above. but there are multiple configurations.

Same thing. Repair man said Wirlpool and Frigidaire were the best and avoid LG and Samsung.
Our options were limited because counter depth is too small, and we wanted an exterior water/ice dispenser. Because people are going sleeker not only is the market flooded with counter depth fridges but limited options with dispensers.
I also like the freezer on the bottom. Bending down or squatting to open a fridge 10x per day is better than bending down and squatting 1-2x per day to open a freezer. I’d also heavier stuff below and things that can spill up high out of the reach of my kid.

Off topic but this was basically the same sentiment I learned when shopping for a washer/dryer combo. The Samsungs/LG were all high efficiency machines that used a lot of plastic parts that failed right around the time the warranty would run out. And trying to find someone to service them would've been a PITA.
I decided to do some more research online. I found the subreddit /r/buyitforlife incredibly helpful. That's where I learned about Speed Queens. Same company that makes commercial grade machines for laundromats. Metal parts, industry leading warranty, American made and uber reliable.
Getting back onto topic, most of the recommendations through that subreddit would suggest if reliability is your biggest concern, get a frig without all the bell and whistles. Just more stuff that will break/go haywire. Keep it simple and save your money. No frig needs wifi.
I did a lot of research, and it seems a lot of folks run into issues with French door refrigerators with exterior dispensers, regardless of brand.
We bought floor model Kenmore french door fridge 7 years ago and haven't had a single issue with it, so I'm partly inclined to just stick with it. Trouble is, it's just too massive.
