But he had his demons. Didn't he drive into and rob a bank because he thought it was his house? I think it was due to alcohol.
Haha forgot he was the bad guy in Beastmaster...considering he was doomed for defying that prophecy, he lasted a good long while.
And yes I do recall the drunken bank “robbery” story...he had a couple alcohol related incidents that hit the papers around where he settled in Connecticut.
Good actor in a lot of different roles over the years
THere is an amazing clip with Garry Shandling talking about how he cast Rip Torn in "Larry Sanders" and I can't find it. But it is part of this series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTTDhy4EOpQ
I grew up in a rural area of NY that borders CT, very near where Rip lived. Interestingly, the town where he got into trouble is very small with a population of about 4000.
With all due respect, it was kind of like Otis breaking into the bank of Maybury (except in this case Otis was a pretty famous actor named Rip).
RIP Rip.
RE: Scully's catch of the dayyyyy.....it's fresh grouper! Â
Gently sauteed in lemon butter with shallots, and a teasing hint of dijon!
It was hardly the best movie he was in, but he always cracked me up as Scully. RIP
Summer rental is a classic. I’m trying to watch the smurfs. Yea. Your trying to watch the smurfs. You ever see the one where Papa Smurf smashed the shit out of a guy with a red hat?
If Rip's not enough reason to watch "The Man Who Fell to Earth" again, there's always Candy Clark. He played two different characters in "Sweet Bird of Youth" years apart and was also in a version of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." He was in "You're a Big Boy Now," directed by Coppola before he was Coppola and with music by the Lovin' Spoonful. Tip of the iceberg. R.I.P. indeed.
Immediately think of Men in Black and Freddie Got Fingered.
RIP
I agree, he was terrific in that movie.
And of course loved him as Artie. A truly great television character.
RIP Rip
RIP to an immensely funny guy.

He had an diagnosed thyroid condition. Only found out late in life.

You are welcome, my friend.
